well, i'd been feeling a bit run down lately, and knowing that i am anemic and that whenever i go to the doc, my iron levels are typically low, i starting taking an iron supplement in addition to my multi-v with iron. for two weeks, i still felt run down, but certain that i would eventually see the results.
well, i definitely did start seeing the results. literally. i'm now covered in bruises all over my legs, swollen, big, black, and painful.
it turns out that the type of anemia i have isn't an iron deficiency at all-- its a folic acid deficiency. pumping my body full of iron has resulted in me doing damage to my organs with iron i can't use in my blood, and has sapped me of the little folic acid i did have, resulting in these bruises.
this is just a warning to everyone who takes supplements for anemia-- know what type you have first! talk to a doctor to work out what you should be doing about it, because you can actually hurt yourself a great deal if you don't know how to properly help yourself.
