for a party of about 12, for a business dinner for a sales group. I want something "different." No chains...and with either a cool, unique theme, or some entertainment, or a San Diego institution. Help?

What type of food?
I've gone to:
The Fish Market (Seafood) but is definitely nice for sitting down with people and talking (business, or what not).
Old Town Mexican Cafe
Peoche's (My favorite)
Busalacchi's Ristorante (Great Italian food).....Nice atmosphere for a business dinner.
Prego's Ristorante (Another great italian place)....Nice, very low key, and quiet.
Salvatore's (Italian food)
Neiman's American Bar Cafe (American food)...It's pretty nice, and quiet.
Ruth's Chris SteakHouse.......Nice people, quiet, and decent food.

Casa de Bandini in old town is nice but there are a lot of tourists.
I agree with Rose that Busalacchi's is very nice, and my friend owns it!
Prego in Mission Valley is very nice as well.
Il Fornaio in Coronado is good.
Bandar or Sadaf in the Gaslamp is delicious Persian food.
It would certainly help to know what type of food you want though.
Type of food is unimportant, the "experience" is what I'm looking for.
I would ckeck around on the internet...
OK anyone know about the "Bali Hai" or "Milles Fleures" (which is in Rancho Santa Fe...is that far from Coronado?)?

Rancho Santa Fe is about a 15-20 minute drive from Coronado. You just take I-5 all the way up or down, depending which direction you are headed.

The Bali Hai is good. I attended a banquet there once. I think that is an excellent choice.
I knew a guy who did a CIA (Culinary Institute of America) externship at Milles Fleures. The food and ambiance are spectacular, and it was about a 15-min drive from La Jolla, where I was staying with a friend.
That would have been my primary recommendation.
Check out zagat.com for more info on other San Diego restaurants, or most major U.S. cities, for that matter.

Top of the Cove (or is it "o' the Cove"?) in La Jolla is one of my personal favorites. Fantastic views, charming cuisine. I had the ostrich there once, and it was so sweet and tasty!
