Default Working out and Appetite Increase

I just can't fool my body. When I really amp my workout my appetite increases exponentially. I am taking vitamins and Tonalin/LPP protein and working out regularly, but I am always hungry, it doesn't go away. I try to munch on healthy things and always have salad and fruits ready to go, but my body still craves more filling foods.

Today I already ate a huge plate of nummy Tex-Mex AND got a toffee bar from Suckbucks. I could eat even more!

Trimspa works well for me, but once its effects wear off my appetite is back like a champ. Plus, I don't want to become dependant on diet pills, they are just a temporary reprieve.

Can anyone offer suggestions for keeping calorie intake low when working out? If I don't eat as much as my body wants, its get very very grumpy LOL!

Sounds like you just upped your metabolism. The best thing you can do is respect that and eat accordingly. Just make sure you stock up on all healthy snacks. I wouldn't suggest dropping your calorie intake (it's just heat, etc for energy). I would strongly suggest you watch your fat intake (stay away from saturated fats and hydrogenated anything). Maybe eat a little bit more protein...proteins take longer for your body to break down. However, metabolically, your body is hungry every 2-3 hours...so eat accordingly.

I eat a lot of whole grains and legumes. That helps to fill me up. Eating breakfast helps keep me going and helps with cravings too. I usually eat a bowl of whole grain cereal, fruit and a glass of chocolate milk or an eggwhite omelet.

Yup, I can relate 100% on this. The more I work out the hungrier I get. As VenusGoddess said don't deprive yourself of what your body needs, just make better choices. Fiber, Protein etc. You'll probably still lose weight since your metabolism is raised and you are burning a lot more cals than you usually are... and this goes for all day as well when your metaoblism is raised.

I couldn't understand why i was losing weight and keeping it off when I was eating like a cow. I couldn't fathom that it was only because I was working out more. Recently since I've been really sick I haven't been able to go to the gym and my appitite has decreased quite a bit, I haven't been eating a half of what I usually do but I've stilled gained 3lbs!

MMM soup is nice. That helped me alot when I was working out more. Just make sure to check the sodium and fat as well as the ingredients.
I agree with Farrah that beans are great for making you feel full they also have alot of fiber which can also help you stay full.

im agreeing with everyone, listen to your body, if its hungry, its hungry... but make sure you're not mistaking hunger for thirst... try some water first, then do fruits and veggies... also, tuna, skinless chicken breast, tofu, all good stuff... and definitely do the fiber... something that helps curb my appetite if i feel im eating too much is psyllium husks... they're tasteless, but the texture is really freaky, lol... mix them in any drink... good for you, undigestible, good fiber... good luck!!

When you're hungry from working out, salad and fruit probly won't help. You need protien. Also (for me anyways) less sugar/white carbs means less hunger.

This curbs appetite? Sounds like it would be a good way for me to get the shits all the time.

    Thanks ladies, keep em coming!

I used to have that problem too. Don't take anything to curb your appetite while working out. It's your body telling you you need something. LISTEN TO IT! A couple things you can try are; eat smaller meals more often. Your body will use what food you do eat more efficently. Try using whey protein supplements. Whey will give you everything you need nutritionally as well as act as an appetite supressent. Try taking a day off from working out more frequently. I started on a 3 days on-one day off, 3 days on two days off schedule and my results just grew exponentially cause it gives your body time to catch up and process the workouts and nutrition.

Try this site, it's got all kinds of very useful tips. It's for weightlifters, but it applies to anyone working out.

    katrine,

maybe you are takiing your calories too low. Consider what your basal metabolism is, then adjust according to daily activity level and exercise. In total, you shouldn't be in the hole more than 1000 calories a day (IF YOU are trying to lose bodyfat)

    For example:
I am 5'4", 118 lbs. My basal (resting) metabolism is about 1100 cal/day. My activity level burns an additional 700-800, and an hour in the gym gets rid of another 600.
So, for me to MAINTAIN my weight, I have to eat about 2400 cal/day. However, if I wanted to lose two lbs of fat/week (healthy weight loss rate) I'd take my daily intake down to 1400.

My point is, if you are going TOO low, your body is going to slow its metabolism and you will feel famished. Like everyone said, listen to what its telling you

Graze. I swear by eating tons of little snack type meals instead of the typical three medium to large ones. I think being raised by hippie parents has helped me tons too as i'm a big fruit/vegie/legume person.
