NEW DANCER - EXCITED! Long Sorry

    Hello, forum:

I want to introduce myself. I am 24 (soon to be 25, geez!) and actually just got brave enough to go to an upscale mens' club here in Charlotte, NC. A little history: I've never danced before (only for my SO) and was really nervous! Wasn't expecting much especially with NO experience whatsoever.

Well, got to the club looking really great and asked the receptionist for an application for waitressing.......ok......that took 5 mins. Before I gave it to her, I was about to leave and decided to open my mouth and asked if the club was hiring for new dancers. (Courage...creeeping up) She was nice and said yes. Picked up the phone and next thing you know, I was being interviewed for the position! He was really nice. Ok. Not expecting this....took 3 hours just to interview and stuff. I was so afraid he was going to ask me to perform on stage. Didn't have any costumes on hand. He did tell me that since it is an upscale club, that they dont hire "newbies" and prefer experienced dancers. But, he said as soon as he saw me, he could tell I had potential and would make lots of money for being attractive. Did a 360 with just my t-string and watched a video.

Filled paperwork. This is MY FIRST attempt to any upscale clubs /mid scale. Does it seem to good to be true? Got a tour, loved the place. so extravagant and high end! So, now here I am, NEWBIE and now loving my mirror more than ever. Talk about needing practicing. Is anyone else out there so nervous as I am? I am scared that I will have stage fright. What is a good first costume? I've never HUSTLED anyone before in my life.........HELP. How am I to do that now for dances?

So many questions.......But still excited. And Oh, still have to come up w/ a stage name.

    Tons of Hugs

Welcome to the forums. From what I can see, I think you'll do very well. Do you have any preferences for names? I'll suggest Tanya for now.

Thanks for the WELCOME. I LOVE this forum. I've learned more about this business in about 30 minutes just reading posts.

I'd love to speak to some veteran dancers out there to get some pointers. I like "GIA" as my stage name...what do u think? Or KIANNA. I'm filipina and would like to have an exotic name.

    XOXO
    Me

How about Ariana? That sounds like a neat name. Or how about Shari.

    Buterfly80,

Congrats. Glad you got your courage up because I before I started dancing I almost did the waitressing thing because...I realized that I was just scared to dance..and I faced my fears and just went for the dancing.

Outfits: Go to your local dancer store...if you don't know where to go call your club and ask where the girls go. Make sure the store will let you try on the heels while trying on the clothes..you get a better feel for what you'll look like. Think about the clothes that you liked seeing on the other dancers..and go for of course what you feel comfortable in. Bring a couple of outfits to the club with you incase you want to change. For carring around your money...decide if you're going to hold it in your hand as some girls do, I use a little purse and I always hang on to it and have had no problems, somegirls strap a garter around their ankle and stuff the money in there with a rubber band..in my own opnion...that's not my type of look though.

The nervousness will go away..probably the day you find yourself in the club ready to dance. That's how it happened for me. Counting down the days before I was going to dance was hell on my stomach..I was so nervous..as soon as I got in the club and on stage...I was just fine and had a major rush.

Husteling like anything is a learing process...just like cooking or sports...you'll find what technique works for you. Some girls do the "hey baby you want a dance" but that did not work for me. I built up a clientelle by making myself remember customers names...whenever I would see them come in I knew their name and they were always pleasently suprised and that = some dances for me. During down times...observe other girls..to see what they do. But have your own approach and be yourself. I find being sweet and smiling work. I always had guys just loving a smile and cheefulness..because you don't know how stresssful their job or homelife is.So they come to the club to escapse. Also don't get down on yourself when guys turn you down for a dance...its part of the job...just pick up and move onto the next person. And don't overstay your welcome (i.e. don't waste your precious time eaither) when sitting with a customer. If you decide to talk to them before you ask for a dance...I would advise you to not stay longer that one or two songs. If they are not wanting a dance when you ask after that time you spend with them..then tell them you have to get go work and to have a nice evening.

I would also advise you not to talk to customers about your nervousness or that fact that your a newbie..some old time customers might try to pull some crap over you. Maybe, maybe not. Anway...there are some guys who take advantage of a girl new to the business.

Go in there, be yourself, and smile. You'll be fine

    Good luck,
    Amber88

That's very good advice from amber.

As for names, personally I think Ariana sounds a little too "white girl", for a more exotic sounding name I like Kianna best of the suggestions here. Or for some reason anything ending with "ani" (oni) sounds exotic to me.

It is pretty common for very upscale clubs to want only experienced dancers, so you should definitely try a midscale club in your area to get hired and gain experience. In a few months you'll be ready for the upscale place
