Default i need a burlesque routine

can someone guide me a little on coming up with a burlesque routine that i can audition with.
the guy emailed me saying it needs to be unique and polished.
i can polish by practicing but i need some help with ideas because i'm an absolute beginner. i dont have any costumes and not sure what kind of props would be good that i may have lying around the house.
i was thinking of using the song sppokshow baby by rob zombie, but i'm noy=t sure if thats too modern for burlesque.
i've seen burlesque that used modern rockin songs without retro costumes, but still not sure. i'm especially clueless about what kind of costume to put together and what theme/character to go with that song.
the song is industrial rock that is campy horror themed and talks about a spookshow baby "she's a killer" i got nice looking futuristic prop guns, bondage tape,
but i'm not sure how to stretch that over an entire song.
i also only have access to pasties at spencers or lingerie from castle boutique, fascinations, hot topic and fredericks of hollywood.
any creative imput would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,

    Here's an easy one.....

Go to a thrift store and buy a mens suit jacket, a white shirt and tie, if you can find a fedora style hat even better. Underneath the shirt, very sexy bra panties and thigh highs.

You can dance to "you can leave your hat on", Tom jones does a version of it that's good, but Joe Cocker's is better.

Another good idea is to use "Hey Big Spender" There are several versions of this old song and on Tweets CD Missy Elliot does a rap versions that's cool.

    Good luck and have fun!

I dont really know if this counts as burlesque or not but I once did an act with a folding chair where I wore a Pussy Cat dolls kinda outfit, it was almost like Catherine Zeta Jones in Chicago but even sexier and I wore high heeled jazz shoes instead of stripper shoes because it was a more artistic, classical kind of dance that I was doing. Anyway, the crowd really loved it because it was so different.

Head on over to www.gstringsforever.com to find a lot of links to burlesque sites. Look around and you can see a lot of different groups' outfits, styles, etc. I have to say that I don't ever need to see anyone dance to "Hey Big Spender" ever again, it's been done to death. I have done burlesque routines to bluegrass and rock in addition to more old-fashioned bump and grind numbers, though I would stay away from stuff that you'd hear in most strip clubs, like heavy rock. Unless you're doing something really funny, like the Pontani Sister's Jersey girls routine to Bon Jovi.

Also, the Pontani Sisters (www.pontanisisters.com) might have links to some clips from their go-go-robics videos, which would give you an idea of some moves, though they're more showgirl than burlesque.

There's room in burlesque for lots of different styles, so you should think about what would be fun for you! What's your funniest stripping fantasy? You can be a lot more creative here than you can in a club.

A note on costumes: burlesque costumes should also be fancier than stripper wear. Sequins, beads, rhinestones, fringe, feathers, fur--in my opinion, it's impossible to use too much. Nothing should be plain. Don't wear a plain bra or thong, decorate the hell out of them. It really helps to be crafty if you're doing burlesque.

I hope you have fun! Let us know how it goes.

You need a unique and polished Burlesque routine for an audition? Gosh, what club are you applying at?

Shock aside, Susan has some fantastic advice, so follow up on those links (particularly gstringsforever). If your club is the type that puts a lot of focus on stage shows of a decadent nature, get creative with bargain store props and learn to sew sequins and beads like a master... it will save you a lot of money and adds a personal and individual touch to your costuming.

The key to stretching the show out over an entire song is to strip slowly. Burlesque is the original strip tease, and tease you must! Layer your outfit a little, don't just saunter out in a g-string and pasties. The more beaded fringes and tassels you have the better; more to shimmy and shake! Burlesque is also a bit over-exaggerated; watch how drag queens do those facial expressions and emphasize every movement... you want to tone that down a notch (or 4!) and practice it yourself.

I have done Burlesque shows to Rob Zombie on a few occasions, and the crowd loved it (Pussy Liquor, Living Dead Girl, etc). However, in order to add a little balance, I'd suggest costuming that is rather traditional when using modern tunes.

    Good luck!

(It's a very novel idea that management has there, but most newbies are too busy shaking in their stilettos and trying to remember to smile to pull off a choreographed routine to perfection )
