So I'm browsing and sharing on soulseek, come across somebody with some songs I want, so I put them in the queue. Not a huge list, but more than 4 songs. In a few minutes I get a message from this guy saying "read rules". Uh, what rules? "browse me." So I browse his files, and he's got a folder named "no more than 4 downloads at once or get banned". Well, I can only download one at a time from him, so what's the problem? He replies "no more than 4 in queue at once". I say sorry didn't see that - and he graciously decides to allow my downloads to continue, but chastises me and warns me to "next time, mind this".![]()
Ok so now I know I have to browse everyone's files before putting more than 1 or 2 of their songs in queue to make sure I'm not violating their "rules" in order to avoid getting *gasp* banned.
I come across another guy who's got some songs I want. A whole Cd actually. I browse him and find he has his system set to disallow anyone who's not in his permitted list. So I message him asking how does one get in his list. He replies with "if you have what I like". He doesn't bother to respond whether he'll add me to his list so I can download. I assume he's browsing me and wait. No answer. I suppose that means he doesn't approve of my rather extensive library and won't share with me![]()
WTF is up with these twats? All seem to have a different set of "rules" for sharing, yet they're on a fucking free internet file-sharing system, looking to download from others. Doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose of the whole thing if you put all these primadonna arbitrary rules on how and with whom you'll share? Bleh! What happened to the simple "share or be banned" code everyone seemed to go by before? Do these DJs (most of whom are likely just a bunch of wannabes or pimply-faced high school brats anyway) actually think their 1000 new and current files are any better than anyone else's? Puh-lease!

Completely defeats the purpose of internet sharing.
