At your age, get an annually renewable term policy. It is very very cheap and you need the coverage, not a cash accumulation policy.
You can go to the library and under research look for either LIMRA or A.M. Best. one of these companies publishes all of the Cost of Insurance COI for a 5 and 10 year period for all of the life insurance companies. Don't get talked into any other policy except ART or YRT.
Select an A+ rated company and a low COI. I have always found Met Life to be the cheapest, but things do change.
I see you are in NY. Any policy you purchase will be offered by a company domociled in NY. New York Life, Met, etc.
