    Smiley Fitness Modeling

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever been a fitness model? I'm looking into doing it and I need to know where to start. Do I need to go to modeling school, or just send my pic to some agency? I've researched a bit online, but haven't come up with anything really useful yet. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

I wrote an article on that very topic that has been a guide for many a pro and amateur fitness model. It covers the essentials on how to “make it” in the industry and where to start more or less. BTW, many fitness models are ex or current dancers. Article can be found on my site at:

A good place to get some exposure is to approach local/small owner swimsuit or sports stores and offer to be in their ads.

Be be sure get a copies and rights to use all your pics.

This can also save you alot of money on photo's for your resume book when you are first looking for work.

I'm a gymnast, and attends gymnast trials and exhibitions. And on one of these exhibitions, I was asked to do an instructional video.
Time and date was set, and I performed. The pay was very nominal, almost a voluntary effort.
The main reason, I did this was to help other younger gymnasts, and I considered it quite an honor to have been chosen.
But now speaking from a financial viewpoint, the pay was very low. Like I said, almost a volunteer job.
My feeling is that we should be more supportive of this sport, but I ams getting off topic here.
    Good luck!

When you go buy one of those gym videos, they are high. But the performers, such as me don't get paid jack high krap for doing them.
Just like EffeZX, I got asked to do them, and I first I did. But they don't pay nothing.
The last few times they asked me, I asked about the pay, and when I found out,

four days, 8 hours shooting, very few repeats, lump sum payments of $340.

No, if I did this I would be getting behind.

Artemis, have you ever heard of the WORLD NATURAL SPORTS ORGANIZATION (WNSO)???

They are extremely above board and many who compete with them or go to the FAME Expo in Toronto can find themselves instantly in demand for fitness shoots and contracts with clothing and other fitness based retail including suppliment companies.

The FAME Expo in Toronto is HUGE!!!! Tonnes of media there and some of the major players and trainers as well as icons in the fitness industry.

Several WNSO athletes have appeared in Oxygen Magazine (Kennedy's mag), and some of the women I know have done work in hollywood.

I've been a member of the WNSO for the last 4-5 years now and have seen so many go beyond a compition.

You do not need a card as you do with the IFBB and the WNSO is not "jealous" over their athletes. You can compete in other compititons right up to the Arnold Classic and Ms Olympia if you desire. The IFBB is more sticky about such matters and want you to get your card.

I will give you the link for WNSO. They have forums there as well...just click on the word chat. http://www.fameevent.com/

I have judged Fame shows, NPC, Fitness America, and others. Nothing wrong with your advice per se, but NPC and IFBB do tend to have greater association and clout with supplement companies, magazines, etc. Wining the say your class in the NPC Nationals is going to get you far more attention. Does not mean other routes are possible also (eg, FAME) but the big shows like the Arnold Classic, Olympia, etc are IFBB and the big shows like the Nationals, USA’s, etc are NPC. It is too bad they get all pissy about people competing where ever they want. It does limits the persons choices some times. FYI, I wrote an article for the first Oxygen and write everyone month for Muscle Mag which owns Oxygen (via Bob Kennedy). Some pics from the last show I judged, which was the NPC New Englands:

Will, I am glad to hve "met" you here.

    Muscle Mag to eh?

WNSO is a good place for athletes to get "their-feet-wet" and feel out the competitive scene as they are incredibly supportive.

Since the WNSO has so many Canadian athletes I feel more affinity for them. Athletes that are in my backyard so to speak.

Do you know Maggie Diubaldo?? She is my ideal as well as my inspiration!!! A truly amazing woman and athlete!!

Ocean bloom is great as well.

I've bookmarked your site and hope to learn from you. Since fitness changes so much there is so much to learn! My evolution continues....

Did you read the article I posted on how to "make it" as a fitness model? That covers essentially everything you could need to know. Long list of mags I write for in the bio section of my site if interested. My monthly column in MMI called "Intake Update" has been going on for a decade or so at this point...Don't know Maggie, I do know Ocean however. BTW, tons of free articles on my site as well as two free ebooks.
