Default dancers and customers to maintain a 6 foot distance from one another.

The Tampa City Council debated a new ordinance which would institute a ban on Lap Dances at it's meeting on Friday. The Council Chamber was packed, many say with it's largest crowd ever. The Council deferred final debate and vote on the issue until December 2.

Expecting the December debate to bring an extraordinary crowd of both supporters and opponents; the debate is scheduled to occur at the Tampa Convention Center in order to accommodate the masses expected.

The ordinance would require dancers and customers to maintain a 6 foot distance from one another, creating the exotic dancer's equivalent of a "no fly zone" so to speak. This of course effectively eliminates the possibility of the lap dance as it's essential component requires the dancer to straddle the customer. Lap dances are very popular with customers at adult dance facilities and with the dancers themselves. Dancers generally receive larger tips from customers after "doing the lap".

Nude or partially clothed employees at the adult facilities are also required to maintain a 6 foot distance from one another. The ordinance states this will eliminate the simulation of sexual acts.

City officials maintain that lap dances promote the spread of disease, prostitution, and sexual assaults.

Don't wait for the hearing in December to voice your opinion. Vote in our poll below, and view the results to see what other site visitors think as well.

*****Note:***** The City Council voted on December 2nd by unanimous vote to make it illegal for exotic dancers to maintain less than a 6 foot distance to both customers and each other, thereby making lap dancing illegal in the city of Tampa.

Here in Springfield Mo. I just faced a similar bill in the city council and through careful negotiation with council member's and city attorneys we were able to have the bill ammended back to the original 18" as apposed to the 6' they where pushing for.
    Good luck

I was working and living in Tampa when this happened. I saw many people get arrested. It didn't stop the clubs and full on lapdances and table dances( depending on club) still go on everyday. Raids are now infrequent and basicaly only go on during campaign season.

The entire 6 foot law in Tampa was a campaign vehicle for a councilman who was running for but lost the race for Mayor. His name is Bob Buckhorn and his slogan is family values- he is anti- sex, anti gay etc. etc. He is a typical bible thumping Bush clone who used the dancers and clubs in Tampa the same way Salem used the witchhunts and trials.

From what I understand (and I haven't been to a SC in Tampa in a while, even though I live here), the 6 ft rule is not enforced anymore.

basically that is correct. However anytime the police want to or a Politician who pressures them to they can come in and arrest as many as they want. In other words the occasional raid will happen.

when the new mayor came in she went on record saying she was not intrested in enforcing the 6 ft law. so highly unlikely.

I actually know an attorney that sent money to some dude running for office in support (can't remember who) and then the man running for office came out and announced he supported the 6 foot rule. This attorney called him and demanded his money back! ha!

Actually & sadly- yes, they can. And not just lapdances either but if a dancer is exposed at ALL (including t-backs- I know weird, but they have done it) even on stage and even a no contact dance .

The current mayor said she has no interest in enforcing it but it is on the books as they say and can (and has from time to time- for example some bikini clubs got busted last spring for t-backs) So no customer or dancer is 100% safe from the 6 foot law in Tampa

Yes that true. In clearwater I have seen them bust for t backs and lap dances. I have also seen them send citations through the mail for lap dances. In tampa they dont send them through the mail only were you have to have an occupational lisence. I would never work anywere were they require you to have one.
