    Default Whey Protein and diet

Ok, so in my attempts to be ultra healthy and get in to rockin' shape (lord help me) I've gone out and bought a huge thing of whey protein and a champion juicer!

Any suggestions on a good diet to follow? I was thinking one whey protein shake with strawberries or raspberries in it for breakfast (and a squeeze of local honey for my allergies). Lots of greens and lean protein...mainly chicken because I don't eat allot of fish unless someone makes it for me!

How many ounces of shake should I have for breakfast? Should I incorporate the shakes in to my six small meals a day? three shakes and three small meals?

It depends on what your body likes. I was always under the assumption that 3 shakes a day was good...but I get too tired. SO, I do an actual breakfast...shake for mid-morning snack...food for lunch...fruit/veggie snack...food for dinner...and then have a shake before I go to bed.

You should really make your first meal of the day an actual meal. No substitutions. A light breakfast will be just fine. Maybe have a serving of oatmeal with an egg and a glass of orange juice...or something like that.

In fact...since you've already bought the shake mix...you may want to hit the bookstore and buy the Eating-for-Life book or the South Beach Diet Cookbook. They are both excellent sources of recipies and they are realistic. Or you can check your local library.

I say load up those shakes with fruits!! They taste so nummy that way.

You may want to leave the fruit out of your protein shake. There are lots and lots of sugars in berries. Once you blend them in the mixer, you change their chemical breakdown and it's almost pure sugar with the fibre being almost useless. Carrots are another thing to stay away from if you are jucing and trying to tone up.

Whey is awesome. It's the most efficient protien. If you are hyper active with your workouts, try 2 scoops of whey in 2 cups of skim milk, a banana, with a tablespoon of low fat peanut butter. It's low fat, little sugar and has almost all the nutrients you need for a meal.

I can't eat peanut butter so I'll try cashew butter instead. I know berries have allot of sugar in them....but I didn't think it'd be that bad. Haley Berry's trainer has her drink one berry whey protein shake in the morning....so I figured it was ok, ha ha.

Do you think it'd be ok with vanilla soy milk? I'm not a big fan of dairy.

It is actually really good with soy milk. I have a smoothie in the mornings with plain soy milk and blueberries and a strawberry or 2..it is delicious. The only thing I dont like about it is that u get all the stuff from the blueberries all over ur teeth..so u cant drink it on the run..lol. I am going to try the bannana with peanut butter, that sounds good. Also I have that mixer thingi called the magic bullet..anyone else have it??? It is great for making these. It is so fast and easy and cleans up really fast!

ha, when I was trying to find a good quality juicer my boyfriend saw the commercial for the magic bullet and he insisted that I get it. I think it looks cool and easy but not exactly what I was searching for!! I might get one to keep at the office so I can do shakes and stuff there. They're pretty cheap aren't they?!

Yeah I think they are pretty cheap. They work so well for the smoothies, I havent made anything else in it though. It was funny,it was one of the presents my mom got me for xmas..we were all sitting around opening gifts and my bf was on the other side of the room and when I saw what it was I yelled"the magic bullet!!! I wanted one of these!!" my bf looked at me with the reddest face ever..he thought my mom got me a vibrator!

this is my diet and it works well for memeal 1- 2 egg whites, 1 egg , 3/4 cup of oatmeal meal 2- whey protein blended with water, ice, and 1 banana meal 3- 5 ounces of lean meat, 1 cup vegetables, 1/2 cup brown rice meal 4- protein shake or can of tuna and 1 piece of fruit. i also eat as many vegetables as i want and drink about a gallon of water a day. i lift weights 3 times a week and do cardio 2-3 times a week. i have gotten my body fat down to 12 percent and gained an inch of muscle everywhere. so it has worked well for me. maybe this will give you some ideas.

shakes can be low calorie when blended with water and ice. add a half of a banana to improve texture.

That's why I like (damn I sound like a commerical) Isopure zero carb, lower in calories than most protein shakes, and still has a good amount of protein. Plus it tastes good. But like sharins81 noted you can always water down by adding ice.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Since you are replacing some meals...you don't have to worry too much about the calories. I don't count calories...but I do count fat and sugars.

I have been eating 3/4 cup of oatmeal for breakfast w/cinnamon and Equal or Splenda with 1/4 cup of skim milk every morning. It fills me up and I feel guilty sometimes. Can you gain weight from eating this every morning? I am recovering from some "work" and since I can't work out for 2 more weeks I am so scared I might gain back the weight that I worked so hard to lose--I mean torturously hard. Please say that it is virtually impossible to gain weight from oatmeal.
