    Arrow American Idol Premiere

Watching the American Idol premeire tonight. Sometimes it makes me wonder who's been telling some of these people that they can actually sing. It's like watching a train wreck I tell you with some, but I guess they will never learn till they get booed of the stage like Ashlee.

I'm watching it right now. How can some of these people not realize how bad they are? Maybe their family members and friends don't want to tell them they suck because they're afraid they'll hurt their feelings, LOL. So far Regina (the black girl who was crying with the husband and the four year old daughter) and the curly haired single mom (can't remember her name, but it started with an M) are my favorites.

Everyone that makes it to the finals sings the fucking same. That shitty "faux-soulful" hitting meaningless occasional high notes crap.

Tom Waits would be cut out in the first round.

I could only see the first half hour upstairs on my tv, my downstairs tv is not working atm, at least until Thursday. I got to see the black guy with the long dreads sing, and boy can he sing.

Yeah, I liked the guy with the dreads too, as well as that Travis guy who just sang. He's a good looking guy too.

Mark McGrath is one of the guest judges tonight and he is so fucking hot! What I would do with him if I got him alone...

Did anyone catch the psycho chick who can't sing at the end? I wish she told Simon and Randy to their faces to fuck off. LOL

Yeah, I saw her-her voice was really weird! Geez, at least take it gracefully if you don't make it to the next round! There's already been three seasons of American Idol and if you've watched any of the shows, you know that Simon is going to be an ass to you if you don't sing well, so these people should know what they're getting themselves into.

Damn.. I'm a total American Idol junkie, and I slept right through the premiere. Actually, my hubby came into the bedroom, woke me up, and asked "Do you want me to wake you up to watch AI?" (Uh yeah, he woke me up to ask me if I wanted him to wake me up.. hehehe ) And like a dumbass, I said No. So, I missed it, but he watched the whole thing, and said he was quite disappointed in Simon, because he was lacking meanness. That's a big part of the whole reason I'm hooked on the show, I LOVE "*mean* Simon.

I'm kinda glad that I missed Mark McGrath though. He irritates me. He's now on "Extra", and I haven't watched that show since they hired him. He's too "pretty" to be a guy.

For anyone who watched the show, is it just me, or is the show not as interesting as it used to be? There were some good singers, but I didn't see anyone who I thought "Holy shit, that was outstanding!" like I did the past three seasons. Well, it's only the first show, maybe they're purposely waiting to air the really good singers later on. And most of the bad singers weren't as funny as the ones last year. Oh well, I'll still keep watching it.

I know what you mean about Simon not being as mean this season, and I miss that. That's half the fun of the show. Yeah, he can be an ass, but sometimes the comments he makes are funny as hell.

Rhi, I think Mark McGrath is totally hot, but I know what you mean, he does kind of have that pretty boy look to him. I don't usually go for pretty boys, but I'd do him in a heartbeat. Like I have a chance, but a girl can dream, can't she? LOL

As entertainment for some "American Idle" rather American Idol" delivers the goods. Not for me though. As a musician, veteran of several major record companies I find the concept an insult to the artistic process and people who have genuine talent and have paid their dues through hard work and sheer determination.Simon Cowell's owned a record label way before this show. There was a time when record companies would scout new talent in clubs, tapes submitted etc. to the record companies. Then the company might take a chance on an as yet "unproven" talent.Sometimes this paid off greatly for the artist and companies, sometimes it was a failure as far as sales were concerned but without the companies ever taking a chance much great music would never of been heard or been released as an alternative to the mainstream releases."American Idol" represents to me everything that's wrong with the music industry and that I despise. It's nothing more than "Live TV Product Research". Put on a show, have all the "drama" of a soap opera so the viewers have a hero to root for and an anti-hero to love to hate. Ah showbiz illusion at it's finest hour.As for the so called "talent" that actually wins this "contest" all it is a popularity contest. The viewer gets to "feel" they are/were a part of helping the winner get to where they are. This show is nothing more than karoke on TV,but one of the judges {Simon and his staff} was smart enough to save costs at the record company by already having the product research done on national TV. There is no integrity considered in any of this from a musicial, artistic point of view. They have the horrible talent to help make the mediocre talent shine that much brighter.
It's called "The Music Business" because to most involved that's all it is to them sadly.A "business" this was told to me first hand many years ago while in the biz.I cringed then, I stilll cringe now at that sentiment.

Tom Waits was trying to replicate the tin pan alley type singers.
True, he would surely be cut, but so would Bob Dylan and any other artist of questionable vocal talent. But that isn't why they secured their place in music history anyway. It was their lyrics. Not their voices.

I completely agree with you, Hottie. It seems like the talent has been severely lacking the past couple years. They've even raised the age limit to 28, to try and bring in more "polished" and mature hopefuls. The second season, I would've cast a zillion votes for "Frenchie" in a heartbeat. That girl could sing like no one's business. Unfortunately, she was the one who they discovered had done some nude modeling on the net and was disqualified. But, in my honest opinion, she blew both Ruben and Clay away.

Hell, I even think Kimberley Locke was better than Ruben and Clay. She's actually getting to be quite successful with her singing career too.

We'll have to see what this season brings. Hopefully they'll actually get some good ones.

Last season really sucked. Fantasia kinda sounds like Donald Duck and I was really really hoping that the other chick would've won, just so we wouldn't have to be subjected to that voice.. No such luck.. Ugh.

I LOVED the psycho-chick at the end, especially when she started telling the judges what the voices in her head were saying about them. Classic.

I agree about Fantasia, only I think she sounds like a record playing at the wrong speed I didn't like DeGarmo (sp) either. I would have like to have seen Latoya or Jasmine win it.

I just thought of something. Last year with the whole William Hung thing, inspired all the really bad singers to come out of the woodwork. The irony is that William Hung sold more records and performed in more venues than either Ruben or Fantasia, the two "winners." Go figure.

I have to say i think Kelly Clarkson can sing. But that is me.

I heard about a short blonde haired chick who went off in the lobby about her singing. She said that Simon (is that his name?) said she was the worst he ever heard.... Lol.

How the hell do they pick the people for this crap? I have to catch it, or record it at least once when i need a good deep belly laugh!

good christ how i loathe that show. and reality tv in general, for that matter. i find nothing even remotely entertaining about it whatsoever. but hey, to each his own. i suppose it's not as bad as some of the other dreck they have on the air.

and for the record, tom waits is the MAN.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

I think FOX pays some of the people on the first few shows.
I have to aggree with Pamela, I think Kelly Clarkson can sing! Alot of them can, but I think no one gives them a chance because of the hate for American Idol. Just my $.02.
