    Smiley Dallas Dancers, Melbourne, Australia

    Club: Dallas Dancers
Address: 189 - 195 King St, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
    Phone Number: (03) 96700980
Type Of Club: Table Top, with both lap and podium dances.
    House Fee: $10
Perks: Free Champagne for dancers on weeknights, low house fee, no percentage taken from cost of dances.

A few years ago Dallas Dancers was known as Kages On Kings, and had a particularly bad reputation. Unfortunately, this seems to have stuck even after the re-naming of the club and management change over. Like every one else, I had heard the stories, but I needed a change of scenery and applied in order to gather my own opinion of the place.

Nikki is the Dallas dance manager, and as she is an ex-dancer herself, she's very firm yet fair. When I applied I spoke to her, and she gave me and the friend I was with an application form. The form is about 3 pages long, with a lot of questions that really don't matter, but I get the feeling it's just a formality. We were asked if we would like to start that night, but had other engagements so I started the next week.

The club's decore is a little tired and far from upscale, but it's very clean and has a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The change room is downstairs, and has a shower, toilets, fridge and lockers ($10 deposit per locker). Baby wipes, mints, and light snacks are covered by your house fee.

The girls can be a little stand off-ish at first, but after a while they warm to you. I have copped a few snide remarks, but that's to be expected in 99.9% of clubs. The majority of the dancers are all very lovely. I haven't seen any one get overly catty or drunk, and if drugs are done at Dallas, it's well hidden. I'm yet to see a dirty dancer or witness any one offer extras, either.

Each dancer does a 15min podium every hour to hour 1/2. Unfortunately tipping is not common, but if you can get at least one young guy to tip a $5, most of the group will follow his lead. A table dance costs $20 for 5min, but if you don't like doing table dances, you don't have to.

The lap dances are $20 for 5min, and $50 for 15min (although every one cuts it a 'lil short ). The dance room is a little shabby, but there are plenty of seats so there is no waiting around.

There is a solo feature show at 11:30pm, a 4 girl strip at 12:30am, a double act feature at 1:30am and a solo feature at 2:30am. The feature shows are paid by doing 'jugs'... grab a beer pitcher and walk about the room, asking for tips. All that change they throw you adds up, and most feature dancers can expect to collect about $150-$250 per show. The 4 girl strip is a set fee of $30 per girl. These shows really get the crowd going, and the money starts to flow a litte better after the double act

Thursday is known as 'Fantasy Thursday', where each dancer needs to dress in a theme outfit. The dress guide lines for other nights are very 'what ever'. I'm finding it a little hard, because most of my outfits are costumes, and we can only wear them on Thursdays... looks like I need to go shopping for generic dance wear when I get the chance!

As there is no dress code at Dallas, and the entry is cheap (around $5), the club is almost always busy, and the clientele is very varied. Because of this, the range of dancers is fantastic. Punks, Goths, Barbies, mature dancers, curvy girls, etc. There is some thing for every customer, from the business man to the glam rocker. I get the feeling that this may be why my earnings at Dallas have been so consistent; I am not in direct competition with so many similar looking dancers.

I hope that's covered the basics. If any one else has any questions, just let me know

    - Charlotte-Marie

WoW .... things have changed and the only reason I don't recommend DD or even bother with DD was due to the bad rep. Kages on Kings gathered. I didn't realise that it was such a gem.

Thank you soooo much for posting this... I hope what you posted is also available over in the Melbourne section in the Clubs and Reviews site.... ?

Based on this review... you might even see me dance there to give it go.

I have one question: since the dress code is very "whatever"... I'm thinking that if someone wanted to wear a long dress or gown (as is the standard at my club)... it would look out of place or does one or two of the other dancers do this ??

Also, can non-house dancer (someone like myself who will only work there temporarily) opt to do the feature shows? What are the pre-requisites (sp?) for someone to do the solo feature shows ?

I'm writing up a few club reviews at the moment, so hopefully I can shed some light on the lesser known clubs in Melbourne (I love finding little gold mines!)

A few girls wear a gown or dress now and then, and they don't look out of place at all. In fact, a I witnessed a patron in a long dress be mistaken for a dancer on Friday night

I'm not sure if a visiting dancer can do feature shows, but I can certainly ask. If you have a interesting show or a bit of a gimmick, I think management could make a big deal out of it and feature you as a dancer "All the way from the Gold Coast!"

I don't know the specific pre-requisites, but the application specifically asks if you have experience in solo and double feature acts. Because I do, I ticked 'yes', and was asked a few weeks later if I could start doing them. I think it's a combination of ability, titles ("Miss Pole Princess", "Miss Nude Australia", etc), and catching the dance manager's eye (and she's watching, mark my words!).

The club opens at 7:00pm and the liquor licence ends at 7:00am. Closing time depends on how busy it is, but it tends to be around 5:00am.

    If you start at-

7:00pm you can go at 3:00am
8:00pm you can go at 4:00am
    9:00pm you stay 'till close

Contact is very light... it's a full nude dance, and the patron must keep his hands off. A light touch of the thigh/back/arms and perhaps a little boobie-in-the-face action, but that's as far as it goes.

Thankfully, not much more is expected

I know that The Palace in Adelaide offers something to dancers if they do 5 nights or more per week.... and Teaze in Rockhampton offers free airfare and accommodation for a three week contract.... then Crazy Horse in Adelaide can offer feature dancers a weekly "wage" (as such) however these are usually for dancers with a title esp. Miss Nude winners.

What I'm striving to "get" at is... what does Dallas Dancers offer? Do they offer anything for interstate dancers who do a min. of 4 or 5 nights a week over 3 weeks (such as reduced house fee, a "wage", re-imburse for airfare, re-imburse half of the cost of accommodation, provide inexpensive (under $20 per night for a single dancer) quality accommodation, etc) ? What about if the dancer wants to do a stage show (even tho' she hasn't any titles as yet however can perform) .... are there any "kickbacks" for the dancer (ie Goldfingers allows the dancer who does a stage show to not have to do any tables or only three the whole night, Bar20 will give the dancer credit which she can use to pay the house fee, and so on).... ???

I already have Rockhampton (the diff. between Letreece and myself is that I've always come off as a country girl to ALOT of people and therefore aren't intimidating to customers plus the free airfare/accommodation offer even tho' I pay $550 in fees a week - I get an invoice for the $550 fee so I can claim it back so no biggie there). I went to Adelaide as a possibility (as The Palace does offer something if you do 5 or more nights per week)...

Just wondering if Dallas Dancers (or if anyone knows of any other clubs) that can offer me something as an interstate dancer esp. if I do 4-5 shifts for 2-3 weeks.

    Thanks

The huge application form asks if you're married and do you have children WTF? I have constantly heard bad reviews of the club from dancers. Right up to last night. Between what I have heard and this review posted I guess if you become a good mate with the dance manager you'll be fine!

hiya! i worked at dallas for around a year back when it was Kages> when i worked there it was a fantastic club for starters (which i was) as there is little competetition like you see in the other clubs. A very good place too start out i found that after awhile i got stale coz it was always the same cloents and it was rare that you made good money off one customer. as one of the highest earning girls there, i made a decent amount bt i found that once i branched out to other clubs (bar20), i could make more than one or two hundred dollars from a customer whereas at kages (dallas) i was happy with accepting 30 dollar lap dances. the bad reputation came about before i got there because originally it was associated with 'Maxines' which is a hire agency and used alot of their girls to get it off the ground when it first opened. the agency girls were tasteless and would do anything for a few dollars and dildo and veggie shows were the norm. they were quickly gone and replaced with fresh faces and new management team but unfortunately the club never had the chance it deserved with the initial first impression. another point which lets it down is the owners will not put alot of money in the company so it will never look really nice, it will always look like a dodgy little suburban club squashed between the glamorous clubs of the city. if your expecting glitz and glamour you will not find it there but if you know how to appeal to the average blue collar worker and the rowdy bikers, you'll do well.
P.S> Nicky is a good dance manager. she and the owner are an item so don't get on the bad side of either. The bar staff are the ones you should win over> you have know idea how much 'pull' they have over management. All in all, it will never be the same as when i worked there but i actually hold fond memories of working there, the girls are more like a family than anything else and will actually look after each other. i recommend it to anyone new to the industry while learning to dance. Ok... I thought I should add to this as I have just finished woking at dallas. House fees currently are $15 wednesday & thursday nights and $25 Fri-sat nights. The dance manager Nikki is awesome, she's very fair and always available to chat to if u have a problem. The security staff are great, they look after you well, walk you to your car etc and the other girls are fantastic. (just give them time to get to know you) It's been pretty quiet there recently, I think after Grand final everyone has spent their money, but will pick up over the spring racing carnival... There is no reason for the bad reputation as this is a clean club... don't work there if u do xtra's the other girls will NOT appreciate it !!! The club is being refurbished early next year and will have a name change so keep your eye out... I love this club and will be more than happy to reccommend it to anyone. The atmosphere is a lot more relaxed for the customers and the girls than other clubs in melbourne. Hope this helps answer any questions u may have

I have worked at Dallas for a while now on and off. Its up and down. Definately dont get many big spenders in there, it is definately a different clientele to the other clubs in King Street. However there is money to be made there on occasions, two weeks ago I walked out with $1050. Which is great for this time of year..... But it was all mainly due to alot of afl supporters who had made the trip over from Perth to watch the eagles play that night. Generally the norm is to make between $450-$600 each night. Not much competition between girls, everyone is friendly... Just not a reliable income... Oh and the club is only open THURS, FRI, SAT nights now.

    Would you recommend working there?
And what are the house fee's, Feature benefits, table sets etc like since the original post?

the house fees are very cheap only $15 on thursday, $25 fri and sat. I would definately recomend working there, if you are not a full time dancer, as they are only open 3 times a week. Its easy to fit in with day jobs etc, and not get pressured to work all the time from management like alot of other clubs do. There is no minimum number of shifts you have to work, which is a real benefit to me because i have a job and like to travel alot. The management are nice too.
You only have to go on stage once every 2 hours usually, which is ok, it creates more buisness for you by going up on stage anyway.
The club isnt as classy as some of the other clubs in kingstreet, and you get more tradesmen and younger guys as patrons, rather than the suits that go into the other clubs.
This however does not effect earning potential. You can really be a rose between the thorns at dallas, and stand out and make more money. Ive worked at all the clubs in King street apart from Bar 20 and always make more money at the smaller clubs. You stand out more, your not one of many, your only one of 10-15 girls. good luck if you decide to work there!!! xoxoxo

Honestly? Just go to the clubs in the early evening hours (or in the case of some of them anytime during the day after 1pm generally) and get an application form. It isn't like if one says no there is no other options... just go to the next one.

As for Dallas Dancers, it is a small club amongst bigger clubs so just ask to apply for work as a dancer at reception when it opens. No biggie.
