Default Last year for my accountant, question.

So my accountant ups his price every damn year. This year i will use him (maybe) again, but i as most know do various jobs. I am an IC to 3 of them. Will Turbo tax help me being an IC? And is it easy to follow along? You know step by step questions and such.

I see there is a free site listed to do taxes, but i want the best, for fear i don't do this right. Is turbo tax online? Is it free to do my taxes? What do i need?

    Thanks all.

There is a wide price range with professional accountants, but cheapest is not always best. That does not mean you should overpay either. My prices are less than my competition, but my overhead is less as well.

Some people do qualify to efile for free. For those who don't there are websites that charge less than turbo tax. www.1040.com/jkbea charges no more than $20 for everything, including the efile fee.

Every year he has gone up alot. I am just looking for an easier but legal way to do my taxes. I will check into that site you put up. But i have alot to turn in as an IC, so i don't want to mess up.

As i will be claiming my work room this year for sure. That's all this room is for. Fine lines i guess, i do work on the computer, but it's also used for this site for example....Just confusing.

Maybe i will stick with him and see what he does this year.

There are different 'flavors' of the Turbo Tax program available which have fewer or more capabilities. Turbo Tax Premier has everything needed to prepare a tax return including independent contractor income (or loss) from a business - or multiple businesses. It also includes invesment income (or loss), foreign income, and virtually anything else a non-incorporated independent contractor might need.

And yes there is an "interview" process where the program asks you questions and then leads you by the hand to make the necessary entries based on how you answered those questions - including automatically choosing the correct forms and making the correct line entries). Not that I'm specifically touting Turbo Tax, but I've used this program for like 6 years now and have been consistently happy with it.
