I am a self-described pole junkieI never wear stockings(they slide on the pole & you can't stick to it) Same goes for pants outfits, I can never seem to slip them off without taking off my shoes. So not sexy on stage
Other than that, you can wear anything you like. Just be careful if your wearing long skirts and gowns.
life is only what you make of it
Bare legs are great if you don't grip hard with them. Boots are fantastic as they help you stick to the pole for crazy tricks! Stockings are do-able if you just plan to use upper body, like grabbing the pole and open you're legs kinda thing.
I always wear boots however if i want to hang, or stick out an arm or one leg. I have fallen too many times...it hurts.

Bare legs are great, I'd never pole without bare legs - I'd be terrified of falling! It does depend though - if you're not really doing many pole tricks and just walking round, going down the pole etc then I doubt it'll make much difference. In my pole class I wear shorts/hotpants - I have as little covered as possible!
Have you done pole before?

I know this is an old thread brought back from the dead (hehe) but I think its a good one, even though the long-gone OP won't benefit from it:
Stockings are almost impossible on the pole unless you're quite experienced. Its best to learn with bare legs. Also, its easier to learn if you don't have a bunch of drapy strings or flowy things as part of your costume. Finally, for the new girls: lotion is the sworn enemy of pole-using girls. Please don't apply it directly before you go to work, it makes the pole difficult and potentially dangerous for the girls who use it.
Hot pants and a midriff baring shirt. must be tattered fishnet for optimum nip grip (kidding). i DO find that a sports bra type top is great when you are not trying to expose anything. When i combine my pole work with strippin', I wear a variety of stuff. I am a fan of the Shorter dresses because it doesn't interfere with climbing the pole.

I wear patent leather shoes and mostly bare legs. Sometimes, though, I wear fence nets. The big holes in them are large enough for my legs to stick to the pole.
