    Default Fewer Voters=Better Gov't ... Interesting Stats on Red vs Blue voters

    Following up on the premise raised in another thread about fewer voters = better government, here are some (admittedly questionable) stats from the 2000 Bush vs Gore election ...

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the (then) most recent Presidential election:

    Population of counties won by:
    Gore = 127 million
    Bush = 143 million

    Square miles of land won by:
    Gore = 580,000
    Bush = 2,2427,000

    States won by:
    Gore = 19
    Bush = 29

    Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
    Gore = 13.2
    Bush = 2.1

    Professor Olson adds:

    "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare . . ."

    Olson believes the U.S. is now somewhere between the "apathy" and "complacency" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

    (please don't shoot the messenger!)

    actually, the underlying point probably is ...

    The USA was NOT meant to be a Democracy (nor should it be)

    I have to strongly disagree with this concept; look at just the northeast and the comparative value of land in say, Massachusetts (particularly the Boston area) compared to that of say, Kansas. A parking spot in Brookline, a nice section of Boston, averages $125K. How many acres of land can I buy for that in Kansas?

    There's a lot of reasons why fewer voters = better government, but the northeast and west pay more in taxes than they receive in federal benefits next to the midwest and south.
    Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

    That's because Bush won in the country (as he did this time). And mostly Bible-Belt. Maybe that is the advantage of living in such a location, at least if you are not black. (I bet there are a lot more telling demographics to be explored.)

    BTW, the USA was structured to be governed by people selected by the electral college, not popular vote. To some extent, voter ignorance and education was supposed to be reduced by this structure. It doesn't always work that way but we still survive.
    I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

    Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

    NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
