    Default potholes

ok I'm working on a project for school. A paper about potholes. Yes potholes - like the things in the roads (at least that's what they call them here in michigan) If anyone has any pothole stories, such as running them over and causing damage to your car, reporting them for repair, making claims - working for an insurance co and hearing about claims, or maybe a car shop and has heard any wild pothole stories please spill your stories!

Jillian, well I could give you a pothole story, caution yourself... it's sad.

In 1999, I lost my best friend shortly before giving birth to my son. She was on the back of a 3 wheeler with a guy from a party. The 3 wheeler hit a pot hole and sent it flying through the air, landing in a parked boat on a trailer. She died from head injuries. If the pothole had not been in the road, there may have never been an accident.

    That's so sad, Vaden.
My pothole story is that my county in CA discovered new and sleazy ways to keep from having to pay for road repairs- they changed ownership of old country roads over to landowners so they would not be liable for lawsuits from damages or accidents from messed-up road. (Some roads washed out during flooding, which I think prompted the move.....)
When I lived in Puerto Rico, I discovered galling levels of government corruption, which was evident to everyone in how the roads were not maintained (stolen road fund money). You had to pay tolls on the Autopista to drive pothole-free roads.
I guess my contribution to your project is to point out that the government officials don't care about potholes- unless the potholes are in their neighborhoods!

madmaxine - that's good - the article is for journalism and it is a "gvt related" story, which in turn trickles down to potholes and gvt spending

    thank you guys!

Oy.. Potholes. Yeah, we have a ton of them here. It's funny too, because they are always working on the roads all throughout the state, and they skip fixing them..

I bottom my car out constantly, but so far (*fingers crossed*) it hasn't caused damage to it.

    Good luck with your paper!
