    Post Political correctness

I almost posted this in the oversensitivity thread, but it's a bit of a divergance from the current vein of the topic, so...

Am I the only one who thinks that political correctness is one of the most annoying things on the planet? (with the exception of small, yappy dogs )

Most, scratch that, all of the people I know who belong to 'minority' or other groups that get labelled with PC terms think it's ridiculous. In fact, they will refer to themselves by the non-PC terms. Aboriginals ('African-American' equivalent) refer to themselves as black, Italians/Greeks refer to themselves as wogs, homosexuals refer to themselves as gays/fags. I mean c'mon, where does it stop - hell for that matter I'm half German/half Chinese and I call myself a Nazi chink (okay, maybe I wouldn't suggest that as an appropriate way to refer to Germans or Asians, but you see the point).

More relevant to this site, I have never heard a stripper refer to herself as a 'dancer' - in fact, most would laugh at the label. We are so worried that we might offend somebody, that the language is becoming ridiculous.

Maybe it's an Aussie thing, I don't know (we tend to have a very low tolerance for bullshit). For those of you who are part of 'minorities', what do you prefer? Other thoughts?

I tend to agree about going overboard with being PC, which was sorta what my point was. I'm not opposed to using the term "African-American" if that's what you want.....but I do think it takes the focus off of the real issues.

The whole PC thing seems like a niggardly issue.
....and if you think that statement is racist.... http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=niggardly

....and this is my point. Anyone remember the politician that got in deep shiat for using this term?

You mean, apart from the fact that noise is too high-pitched and sharp to ignore, thereby precluding the use of the ears for anything else (such as conversation), or that it seems to go straight to the 'headache centre' of my brain?

    Small, quiet dogs are fine.

Nothing!! Are you kidding?! You know everyone here wants to steal the Pomeranian!!

As far as strippers calling themselves dancers, some do, some don't.
Political correctness is taken too far sometimes, however, there is a difference between being non-PC and derogatory.

Political correctness will be the downfall of modern society, much like Fahrenheit 451 depicts.

Political correctness was thought up by white liberals from the North East who had flowers in their hair and danced around bond fires naked.
