    Default Kombucha

    Anyone heard of Kombucha?

I just got a bottle at the store, Synergy Organic Elixir, and it is 95% Kombucha. Tastes kinda like wine. The label says that it:
    Burns body fat
    Helps control appetite
    Stimulates metabolism
    Soothes digestion
    Improves liver function
    Strengthens the immune system
    Helps alkalize body's pH
    Promotes healthy skin and hair
    www.naturezone.net

I'm usually vary wary of stuff like this that claims to make you "healthier" and lose weight. But this stuff tastes pretty darn good! So I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it before.

Yeah I tried it before both on that site acutually the synergy guava and the Kombucha. I didn't really like the taste but I wasn't hunger for a couple hours after I drank it.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I take kombucha pills from the VitaminShoppe. I'm not taking them to lose weight. But I feel a lot more energetic when I take them. And not in a caffeine high way, I just feel rejuvented. Here's another helpful link. http://w3.trib.com/~kombu/info.html

I used to make it at home. You can get more info @ . I think that's the website. It gave me lots of energy. I just got really busy and stopped making it. It's expensive to buy in the bottle if you drink it everyday. They sell it at Whole Foods Market for about $3.29

Yeah, the 2 serving bottle was getting a bit pricey. Thanks for the info!

So, does anyone else think kombucha tastes like apple cider vinegar? Maybe with a slight hint of compost? I'm not liking it but I want to see if it helps with my low energy. And what makes it fizzy?

I like Kombucha. It's healthy, and it gives me a bit of a buzz (I don't drink alcohol, so my tolerance is low enough to actually catch a buzz from this stuff).

Never really noticed a weight loss though.

YES! No clue why it's fizzy but I do think that's what it tastes like. A little more subdued, but that may be the compost kicking in.

K and his friend have both gotten really into it. He wants to start making his own.

I tried kombucha once and hated it. It had those long gooey strings of snot or whatever that was, and I just couldn't stomach it. I know it's healthy but I just could not swallow the snot.

Tastes horrible and is very pricey, but it seems to have good health benifits. I have a friend who swears by it for a hangover cure.

Oooh gross! Cheesecloth that shit, yo!

I think it can also be brewed too strong, not sweet enough etc...

mushrooms are from outer space-- all i gotta say about that.

but.... I love kombucha for the way it makes me feel, but not for the way it tastes. I don't like the synergy brand.. it's too fizzy and vinegary. I drink a local brand that is way better. A bottle lasts me about 4-5 days because I can only drink 2-3 oz a time!

and yeah... strain it through a cheesecloth.

OT: but the other day i saw someone shaking one as they were walking out of wholefoods and then went to open it and exploded everywhere. haha.....serves him right for trying to look cool walking out of the store with his expensive mushroom vinegar death drink. I always see people shaking them and I want to yell at them to stop... but it's funny when they open them.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

Kombucha makes me feel good! I drink first thing in the morning. Instead of a caffeine buzz I get a kombucha buzz.

It makes me feel great all over. Not bad for a bottle of little critters!!!

I guess they're not saying Kombucha in and of itself is bad, but it should be commercially prepared because growing it at home can lead to mold and other pathogenic bacteria growing in the tea that will cause illnesses.

I didn't even know it was a mushroom until I came back to this thread. I honestly thought it was a root or something.

Not quite a mushroom. More like a colony. A colony of delllliiicous bacteria and yeasts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha

It's like a party in your mouth.... with millions of "guests" in each swig!
