    Default Women in Industrial Jobs

Any SWers have industrial/ construction jobs? I wanted to go to welding school and my brother talked me out of it. (Then he freaked out when he found out I was a stripper. Just a few days ago he suggested welding school as a way to get out of dancing and I bit my tongue, not worth teasing him over....) I dated a lot of blue-collar guys and so I know the only thing I'm missing for a man's job is the brawn. But I'm sure there's a few fields where my size doesn't matter. I hate office jobs so I'm looking at Vocational Tech school as another step in life.

Physical labor and desire to do different things all day. Short attention span!

LOL.. I hear that ! Get your sweat on girl.. I have a friend who does nothing but party when of work.. he’s an electrician and makes serious dollars! That would be real sexy.. Female electrician, bet you’d get all the contracts!

Have you considered aerobics instruction.. In Canada there are soo many opening for the lumber industry, mining, stuff like that.. they pay really well but it's serious labor!

A lot of jobs will bar me for my small size. I'm certain I'll do something like construction eventually. I could work with my dad, but the money is not great around here.

If you seriously want to do it.. I say be a construction manager or an electrician.. Electricians are always in demand and I think that would be really sexy! Where in Cali has low $? I’ve been to San Diego and LA ... loved it.

If you're specialized and very skilled, you can make pretty decent money doing welding, particularly if you get Navy Certified in more than one type of welding.

I used to do a lot of welding in my USAF days (civil engineering). One of my subordinates and one of my superiors were women and their welding skills were par excellance. It's less about strength than dexterity and finesse; excellent fine motor skills and learning how to control heat and flow is what makes you a good welder. Even strong guys use hoists, clamps, scaffolding and supports, et al when assembling and welding projects together, so don't get too focused on the muscle aspect of welding if you decide to follow this route.

That said, you might want to consider this more of a hobby than a trade; bars are filled with unemployed welders---a truth told to me by a welder himself when I was considering the trade school route.
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.
