    Default Wisdom Teeth- Ouch

    Okay guys...

Getting married in three weeks, suppose to have these nasty fuckers removed next Friday.. anyone tell me how long it takes to heal up and if I am going to have chipmunk cheeks for two weeks or longer???

I'd wait, but with the current job going away as of February 14th- doing it now while I have insurance, plus one is really hurting! OOOOOWWWWIEEE...

I had mine out about 3 years ago. I went to a Homeopath beforehand and she gave me Arnica for the swelling and and Hypericum for the pain. I also bought some Arnica cream to apply to my face. I had a general anesthetic to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed and after that I only used the Arnica and Hypericum for a couple of days - I didn't need anything else, it didn't hurt! My Homeopath actually has patients who have used the Hypericum without anisthetic, but I wasn't that game!!! My swelling was gone within a few days - I played a gig 4 or 5 days later to a couple of hundred people and I looked fine!
Hope the pains gone soon, wishing you a speedy recovery too!!! (-:

I had mine years ago. I had to have all four and go to an actual oral surgeon at a hospital. I told him I didn't want to be awake and he listened to my wishes. I blinked and it was over. Afterwards, on the advice of a friend, I started taking the pain meds as soon as I got home and not as soon as I felt pain. I think I slept for 3 days straight and don't recall exactly how long I was out of work but it wasn't that bad. I couldn't drink from a straw.

    Its different for everyone.
They may or may not be impacted.
It shouldnt take 2 weeks for swelling to go down,if it hurts for more then a few days,im guessing theres a problem that needs attention.

I still need to get mine removed, lol. I am waiting a little while. I just have to get one out, and I am scared shitless. Wish you luck though! Btw, I plan on being asleep when they yank mine.

I too went to an oral surgeon and was put out while they did it. Bad swelling lasted 3 days, but all was gone after a week. Week 2, you basically get used to eating food again but you are phasing off of the meds and feeling (and looking) normal. You should be fine for the wedding.

Although, you will probably lose some more weight Gynger. I lost a good 10 lbs when I had mine done.

Mine gave me an anti-inflammitory AND pain pills. He gave me Vioxx, which is off the market now, but ask for something comparable. I only had swelling on one side after 3 days.

Gynger, good luck with your teeth, and congrats on your wedding!

I saw the dentist this morning and am scheduled to get all 4 of mine out on Feb.10. He said he can do it in his office, rather than having an oral surgeon do it. I told him I'm a wimp when it comes to anything dental, so he gave me a prescription for ativan. He said to take 2 the night before, 2 an hour before the appt., and then 2 when I arrive. He said I would be able to move, but probably wouldn't remember much (I'll also get novicane and laughing gas). Do you think this will be enough to not feel anything? I really am freaking out about it!

Ow I had mine out a few years ago, but one of mine was impacted. You should be fine in two weeks definately. If not then you should get it checked out. If you still have pain in I would say three days call your doc. Take the medicine that they give, as long as it is not infected you will be fine. Good luck on the wedding

I had mine taken out a few months ago. All four of them, ugh. The only thing that I can tell you is to use ice. It was a life saver. My face didn't swell up at all - no chipmunk cheeks. For me I was sort of out of it for about 3 days, then I could stand not taking any medicine. You should be back to normal in about a week or so.

    I hope everything goes well!

I had all 4 of mine removed about a month ago. Someone had told me that I would only have swelling for a day or two, but I looked like a chipmunk (EXCESSIVE swelling) for about 5 days. Days 6 and 7 were better. My face was still swollen but it wasn't that obvious. And after a week, I looked normal again

Make sure you have a big icepack that you can wrap around your face- your oral surgeon probably sells them. Good luck!

Also, pack frozen peas into latex gloves and put them on your face, its like cold hands on the face, and conforms well.....

I had four, impacted, sideways wisdom teeth pulverized and extracted all at once (while out cold, of course). I was somewhat swollen for 2 days, but had no bruising and was back at work...egads...the next day? That can't be right. Nope...it is. It was a day job with no upside-down-on-a-pole stuff, but I was on my feet and things were fine.

Stay away from aspirin beforehand, try Vitamin C and arnica montana (if your maxillofacial/oral surgeon okays it) a couple weeks before to cut down on bruising, and do sleep with frozen berries next to those cheeks. It doesn't have to be a nightmare if you follow all the standard advice for suppressing the after-effects.

Something to keep in mind...be careful at work if you return while you're still healing. Don't suck your beverages through a straw (dry socket will, indeed, make you briefly insane...which I found out because I wouldn't give up ciggies after surgery...), and be cautious when combining alcohol, painkillers, and moneymaking.

Ask your doctor about taking Ibuprofen for a fews days before surgery to reduce swelling and bleeding. I had no swelling and little bleeding, but I was put under. Congratulations and good luck!

egads... mine are scheduled for February 10th- and I'm being put out. One impacted and the other two are completely thru and one trying(OUCH!) to get through.... I was told I didn't have any because at age 26 after an xray, no wisdom teeth showed up on the xray... somehow between age 29 and 31 all of them showed up...

The last thing I need to do is lose any more weight.. still trying to put on some from this last big weight loss... (up 8 pounds, still look like a walking skeleton!)..

Thanks Guys and I hope that I am not in too much pain...

You will be fine. I am the biggest wimp in the world and I got dry sockets (the worst case scenario). It was unpleasant but it is nothing you can't handle. I had laughing gas and then they put me under, 2 impacted 2 not. Definitely get your prescriptions filled asap so you can take them before you feel the pain. Also you can't drive afterwards if you're put under so you'll need someone to drive you (and to be on the ready to get you cold shakes)!
    Good luck

Hey Gynger, just wanted to hear how everything went with your wisdom teeth. Did you have a lot of swelling/pain? Also, are you getting married this weekend???? If so, congratulations and good luck!!

I just had my 4 wisdom teeth out this afternoon. So far I don't have any swelling (but it's only been about 6 hours). My dr prescribed anti-inflamatory drugs, and I've been icing my cheeks since I got home. Do you thinik I might be able to get away with little/no swelling? I hope, I hope, I hope... :-)

Well it's been 6 days since I got my teeth pulled, and I've lost 6 pounds! Those are some heavy teeth, huh? ;-) Seriously, I'm just hoping to keep these pounds off once I start eating normal food again ***crossing fingers***

The navy doctors pulled mine out while at Marine boot camp and it was not a very fun experience.

Sh0t, my dad got one of his pulled while in the Navy too. He said it was the worst pain he ever felt, they didn't have real novicane. That would have been in the 60's. Gotta love modern-day narcotics...
