Default Why do I have to fill out applications?

Seriously, I always fill out an application before I am hired or rejected on the spot. I don't get W-2's. I doubt the clubs contact the IRS about me. They don't do backround checks. The clubs don't even keep tabs on how many hours I work. What's up with the application?

It's to keep a record who all works there.Even though you are an Independent Contractor, they will still need to keep tabs on who works there, not to mention if anything ever happens to you while at work, there is an emergency number they can use to contact them with.

    Several issues ...

First is the Patriot Act. This law was passed after 9/11 and requires all US 'employers' to verify that any 'employees' it hires are not illegal aliens. Failure to comply and being caught at it means stiff fines for the 'employer'. To comply, it basically requires that every 'employee' provide their real name, real address, and Social Security number as proof of legal citizenship and legal residence.

Second is the IRS and state tax agencies. By law even businesses which pay independent contractors are required to report these payments to the IRS providing they total more than $600 a year. This of course allows the IRS to cross-check that the independent contractor reported and paid taxes on that income on their own tax return. Therefore it's more and more likely that independent contractor dancers will start to see 1099-misc forms showing up in their mailbox in January and February of every year reporting the total amount of money the club took in through their cash register and paid out again to dancers i.e. customer credit card charges, private dance 'commissions', champagne room 'commissions' etc. In order to file these 1099-misc forms, clubs need to know the dancer's real name, real address, and social security number.

Third is the issue of policies and legal disclaimers. By reading and signing an application, a dancer is agreeing to whatever terms the club has listed on the application. These can stem all the way from a legal waiver of copyright to any pictures taken of the dancer inside the club, to 'plausible deniability' for the club in regard to any dancers caught providing excess contact to customers if the club is busted, to an IRS disclaimer for the club in regard to not reporting 100% of dancer incomes. Signing the application legally means that the dancer understands and accepts all of these policies and legal disclaimers.

I've never had to fill out paperwork before I was hired at a club, not even a DejaVu club. Strange........

I don't remember my club ever asking me for my social security card. Do you have to show your actual ss card at some clubs or is your number just enough?
