Default Eep. Bad skin. Help! =/

Hello girls, its been a while since I've been here last but I haven't forgotten about you guys. Good to be back again.

Anyway so basically I was subjected to HORRIBLE skin when I was younger... like 13 through 17. It went away after I got pregnant with my daughter. But here lately I've been subjected to extreme stress, and its like a trip back in time. =/ My skin is just as bad as it was back then (and I needed medication to curb it in the past). I've got it "better" with proactive, but its still not great. Looks like its going to take alot of time to go away.

But my actual question is what kind of makeup to use. I can't find one that doesn't seem to be made for already flawless skin, or skin with few blemishes. Everytime I put one on it just doesn't have enough coverage and it ends up looking like I was trying to hide something and failed miserably. I can put up some money for this, so I was wondering if maybe something from MAC would work and not cause me to break out more?

    Thanks

I hear you. My skin was a nightmare from ages 13 through 19 and did not change until I got on the Pill.
My favorite brand of cover-up for blemish skin is Almay Skin Stays Clean, which smells nice and if you use extra on a spot, has a cover-up effect. Oil-free too. You could also double up liquid foundation and powder...which makes for a creamier look.
Good luck and let us know if you find other brand you like.

...just curious what your skincare regime is like. Maybe you can bypass the coverage issue with a better one.

Well normally I just do the proactive schedule at night and in the morning (except the cream in the morning, which dries me out if I use it twice). I'll put on eyemakeup and maybe lipgloss, but no actually skin covering makeup for fear it will make things worse (it always did in the past). That's about it. I'm trying to stay well away from putting anything on it unless I have to. But when I start dancing again I'll need it. And I want it to look right.

Could you have an allergy to sulphur? My best pal can't use Proactive, & that's why. Maybe that's why it doesn't do the trick for you...just a thought...
There are a few Accutane threads on here, but many say they had awful side effects. I can't emphasize how effective the Pill was in ridding my acne. This was full-level hormone doseage, not low-level.
Consult a dermatologist. I know how hard it is to deal with skin problems, and maybe that might be the best route for you if you know it's going to be a tough process. Good luck.

My skin hasn't ever been my strong point... except when I got facials like... once a week (although that's just cuz I'd had money to burn... she'd told me that once a month was also absolutely fine). I have pictures that show this amazingly vast improvement! She also told me that Mac was horrible for your skin and that she'd had women leave for some even after getting a facial and putting on MAC (specifically) make-up and totally breaking out... not like putting anything on your face is good after a facial anyway. Bottom line: For the problem, facials or dermatologist. For disguising it for now: Benefit makes something called lemon-aide that works well. It's a relatively dry, creme concealer that's yellow so it counter-acts the red. Then, for a good coverage that won't clog your pores too much (at least for me), benefit's playsticks - applied with a make-up sponge and patting it on. Careful not to go too heavy... then a light poweder. For lazy day's, I always use Clinique's balancing foundation and a yellowish conceler to give myself a break and still keep everything hidden.

hey...this question may sound weird, but do you have real nails, or do you put acrylic on them?

I ask b/c I had HORRIBLE acne for 11 years--until I got fake nails. For some reason (maybe I was unconciously scratching, etc.) that helped me clear right up. Probably the fact that my real nails could break skin, whereas the acrylics can't. Tanning a couple times a week helps me also, but I think it's just my skin type. Let me know if you think this might work for you...

Tanning does a lot for your skin, it also makes you appear thinner and more toned, (Less cellulite). I also found that when I tanned once a week my face was clearer. But be very careful when tanning your face. The skin on your face is very sensitive. Wear a good mousterizer on your face at all times, especially if you live some where that is hot. And even when you tan wear an spf. Trust me you will thank your self down the line, and also the facials do work wonders for the skin!

Neutrogena has a Skin Clearing foundation line that I love. The ONLY time I will break out (and still only like 2 spots) is when I'm sick at home and not putting my makeup on.

Oh yea, good point. The facialist lady also gave me shit when I got fake nails (they were gel, but still bad she said). She said they put toxins into the body and they trapped all kinds of crap underneath them that got transfered to the skin. She even rewarded me with a free bottle of nail polish when I finally took them off, it was such a big deal to her! She was right though, I could see an improvement.

Oh, you said the opposite... lol. Well, if they kept you from scractching... lol. I try so hard not to touch my face because of all the dirt and oil that it transfers... I never remember.

I don't have too bad of skin, though my old roommate did, and we both used Body Shop's tea tree line. It helps A LOT. I mostly used it when I was breaking out (one week a month!), but the face mask does wonders!

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Plain old tea tree oil spot on blemishes helps out alot. Thanks for the reminder!

This is all really helpful, and I thank you all for helping me out.

In regards to makeup coverage, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just not applying it right. I grew up with a stepmother that did not like me. She taught me how to do NOTHING feminine, and I grew up guessing at everything until I figured it out (or didn't, hehe). I guess if anyone had any makeup tips that would also help.

Skin makeup is so confusing. =/ Theres bottom layers and midlayers and top powders or all-in-one's and different amounts of coverage for different skin types... I can't even match my skin tone.

I would suggest trying not to wear make-up at all if possible only when you really need to. let your skin breathe, and when you do use make-up use a good one, even is that means buying an expensive one. (cheap make-up makes me break out). Make sure you wash off your make-up completely before you go to bed, and drink plenty of water.

I like clean and clear persa gel for night, over the bodyshops tea tree moisturizer. during the day I wear an oil absorbing spf moisturizer from oil of olay. I had horrible skin untill I started doing this. Also to cover up, I use mac studio fix. You can layer it to cover as much as you need. Just make sure you have someone help you pick the right color, or else, everything will just be emphasized.

On another note, maybe your using a foundation that is the wrong color, or you could be pressing too hard and rubbing away the stuff your trying to put on.
