Sad naturally big thighs and running

    Hey guys!!
Do any of you guys have naturally muscular legs?? I am not fat but it just seems like my thighs are so much thicker than I am comfortable with. I get so friggin frustrated because it seems like when I run it makes them bigger and I swear it makes me sooooooooooo friggin discouraged. Is there anyone else out there in my boat and if so should I continue with the running. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PLEASE HELP

My legs are what I consider kinda on the big side. And let me tell you, when I used to run all the time they just kept getting bigger instead of smaller. I don't think its such a bad thing, they were nice and muscular. But now I've gotten quite lazy and well....they're still on the big side. LOL. I think its a no win situation for me.

Oh, and just because you think your legs are big, doesn't really mean they are. I look back at pics of myself from a few years back when I was running, and they don't actually look that big. But I tend to compare myself to others a bit too much.

My advice, do what makes you comfortable. I'm sure your legs are not as big as you think they are. :-)

Yes i have big thighs that get defination when I really work them out lunges etc... Running made my hamstrings and quads more pronounced I actually started to see the tear drop defination that's when I started backing off from really working my legs. I think as long as they are firm and tight but big that's okay. It becomes an issue for a dancer if it's the opposite saggy lumpy fat big thighs.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I have naturally big, muscular legs as well. I've found that running helps build more definition but also makes them look leaner, so long as its at a stead pace and not on any kind of a grade. And stay away from any of the muscle building machines.

On the upside, I've had many customers tell me they LOVE my big legs, so....maybe they aren't such a bad thing.

I think theres just fat on my thight right now??? but when I workout they get slimmer but they are still very muscley and show all the little muscles when I move or walk. It sometimes bothers me but theres no way to change as far as I know except proper diet and regular excersize with cardio or light wieghts.

i also have big thighs that get bigger no matter what. i agree with the others... as long as they are big and toned, you'll be okay. you were made that way for a reason and i'm sure it's in proportion to the rest of your body.

i have big thighs and a huge big butt. when i used to run, i lost a lot of weight and they would get smaller, but when i did squats or weight training, they got bigger! i guess it could be all the muscle building under the fat before it can burn off the fat, but alls i know is..... i still have a huge big butt. i think big thighs are a uniquely feminine trait though, and a lot of guys like it. they are just the counterparts of boobs.

Definitely not a bad thing. If I see a dancer with nicely muscled legs, she'll get more of my attention than anyone else there.

Pilates. Yoga. Those exercises will help lengthen and lean out bulked up muscles.

I have very strong legs and the muscles in my legs were always well-developed. But, after a few years of Yoga and Pilates, they became long and lean with a lot of tone...they weren't as "beefy". Loved it.

Running will add definition, and should actually help you avoid any cellulite which tends to creep up on women with this body type as we age. Plenty of stretches should help you avoid the bulky look. When I first started running I noticed my legs seemed to get a bit bigger, but then the fat melted off and slimmed them down and all you could see was that lovely muscle definiton.
by the way, I have huge legs and an enormous butt.

I'm in the muscular/big thighs running club too.
you may just be naturally pear-shaped also.
    It hasn't seemed to bother
    most guys though...sometimes i get self-conscious
like the last one had these little twigs for legs i felt like 'I will crush
you' but eh. Guess it's just bigger in our minds a lot of the time!

Take up some sort of formal dance class. Dance actually leans out muscle quite a bit...

I too have always had bigger more muscular legs, and a bigger rounder but than I thought was attractive. Although I have never had complaints from anyone. I just felt like a cow. Like I was so much bigger than I should be. I look back at past pics of me now and see absolutely nothing wrong. I have always been into sports and outdoor activities which keeps them firm and toned. I have just begun to realize how attractive that is, and men seem to love it! As long as you're tight and toned, don't worry about it.

I'm in the same category. I have very musclular legs and I get self-concious around girls with skinny chicken legs. But I always get complemented on my muscular definition and tone. What sucks is if I gain weight, I hold onto the muscle and fat builds on top of it so I get "thick" looking.

Anyway, I love running and I found the best thing for me is to run alternating sprints with distance. Distance running does seem to bulk/build my legs up a bit. Since sprinting is anaerobic, it actually breaks down the muscle to give it a very toned look. This helps pronounce the 4 heads of my quad muscles while I walk/run. I also have the V on the back my thighs when I bend over.

Consider walking on a flat surface instead of running for cardio. Maybe consult a yoga teacher and explain that you want to focus on getting longer muscles.
