    Default Cleaning off the pole

Okay, at the club I started at, we had alcohol spray and a barcloth or two at the stage at all times - and every girl wiped down the pole for her set. At my new club and the last one I worked at, neither were in attendance. And we had multiple stages. I've thought about bringing my own, but at this club the set up is like this frequently:
Dancer one goes down staircase and dances on satelite stages [two] for one song, then another dancer takes over the satelites for her and she dances on the main stage with a pole for one song. This is her only time to collect stage tips.

So, I don't want to be bringing down an alcohol spray bottle and a cloth and just set them on the stairs or stage to get in the way of the next dancer, nor do I really want to be taking up the only 3 minutes I have to collect tips with cleaning up a 20' pole.
On the other hand, that pole could really use it, by the time night shift starts the pole is slick with body lotion and whatever else. But then again, I see some really amazing pole tricks done with these poles I'm terrified to use - is grip a lot more skill than cleanliness of the pole?

I can see your problem. Maybe try mentioning it to the manager? I know they often don't really care about that sort of thing, but there's a possibility that it could help. Especially if other girls in your club felt the same way.

Awhile ago I got there early and asked about stuff to clean the pole, and they said when I wanted to I could ask the bar for the 'Fantastik' cleaning stuff they use and use the cocktail napkins. Plus, as I said, other girls seem to be able to do pole tricks fine without it.

I like to use a mixture of windex, rubbing alcohol, and witch hazel with just a normal towel. But I asked before cleaning the pole at work.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

The staff makes fun of me at work, but I carry a small spray bottle, (purse size) of rubbing alchohol and get a cocktail napkin and wipe at least every other set I go up on stage. We have three poles and they are not too tall, about 10 feet. It doesn't take too long to clean them and I try to incorporate it into my act.

When I hear my co-workers coughing, then I spray every time.

    Cheers,

    Corey

I purchase the individual wrapped alcohol wipes and carry a dry cotton cloth up with me each set. In my case this works because I come out of a curtain so, I can come out and clean up, throw it back through the curtain and continue my set.

I would suggest either carrying a single wipe down with you with a small napkin or asking permission to clean each time.

For me, grip is a factor on the majority of tricks I do and if it's slippery I get a little paranoid to do them.

I would clean the pole. Some girls find it easier to grip it when they do pole tricks. You can also get the drigrip stuff, its on poletricks101.com. When I worked at the GGC, I cleaned the pole down. I wasnt taking chances.

RD, what I seriously don't get is the girls at GGC who wear lotion and can do pole-tricks.

Anyway, thanks everyone, I think I'll be swallowing the "it looks weird!" thing and cleaning the pole. Maybe start a trend. Also getting the grip-y stuff.

Heh! They sure did use lotion and swing on that pole..I remember one night when a girl was doing a skit (one of the black girls, cant remember her name?), she did the most horrible thing you can do..smeared baby oil all over her and got it on the stage and the pole :| I was pretty irritated because I even slipped up there. And then one night, another girl who was doing a skit used a buttload of loose glitter, and got it all over the floor. Slick there too!
