    Sad star trek enterprise-cancelled

Well I just heard that this is the final season for Enterprise.
I guess I am admitting my nerd status by saying that I really enjoyed the show.

I liked how they were connecting the original series, and more recent ones, by laying out the history of the federation. OK I'm not a super nerd I don't remember all the details, but I will miss the show and its attempt to carry on with Roddenberry's(sp?) view of a more civilized future.

I hear that the show had dropped from 13 million viewers to around 3, but I found this seasons episodes to be among the best so far.

    Hate to see it go.

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Dude this totally sucks. Leave it to UPN to make a show good enough to watch yet move it to a night that no one will watch it. Wonderfalls on Fox suffered a similar fate and it only lasted barely a season.

I'm afraid i was part of the problem. I haven't watched since the first season or so. For the longest time it was up against Smallville in STL, and anything related to Superman just plain comes first.

From the reruns i have seen, i can tell the problem though. The just weren't showing people the stuff they wanted to see. The fans wanted it to connect with the original show, and that just wasn't happening aside from a few things only die hard encyclopedic type trekkies would 'get.' Once they finally got around to doing this, it was too late. If they had wanted to do something new with it they shouldn't have gone the prequel route, there's just too many spock-eared geeks out there who know Trek history by rote. I know one guy who is fluent in the Klingon language, for god's sake (ahh, the weirdness of working in the tech industry).

Had they really gotten into the formation of the federation, the Romulan war, etc, from Trek lore people would have stuck around (or at least set the TIVO to snag it). Instead they spent half their time on this temporal cold war shit.

Oh well. They need to fire Rick Berman in a bad way. He's been steady running Roddenberry's vision into the ground for years. Get someone else who doesn't need two hands and a compass to find his own ass. Trek is a cash cow for paramount, so i wouldn't expect to see it vanish forever. They also need to go back to first run syndication rather than prime-time. They did remarkably well with first run syncication with TNG, Deep Space 9, and even Voyager.

Guess I'm part of the problem too. I love Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager but just never got into Enterprise. Part of the reason was Scott Baccula (sp?). I've just never been a fan. When this one goes off hopefully they'll come up with a new spin with new characters I can get in to. Until then...reruns on SpikeTV!

Supposedly they are working on a new movie, with all new characters. Don't get your hopes up though. I'm sure Berman will find a way to fuck it up.

I dont even watch TV, so I guess I'm part of the problem also.

You can add ENTERPRISE to the list of good shows cancelled before their time, including:
    BRIMSTONE and DEAD LIKE ME.

A "Save the Show" campaign seldom works. Generally, when a show is cancelled, its gone for good. Notable exception, ironically enough, is STAR TREK's original series, which returned in the forms of motion pictures and new series based on it.

enterprise is definitely a good sci fi show. This season is the best, and last season with the season long arc was decent also and got good towards the end of the year. However, its time slot this year sucks, going up against the great friday night line up on the sci fi channel. You cannot go wrong with stargate sg1, stargate atlantas, and battlestar galactaca. All three which i feel are far superior.

The best sci fi show in my opinion is/was farscape. It had the best character development and the lovely Claudia Black. Farscape had characters that were puppets, which I feel are much more believable than cg people like jar jar on star warsf. But even with all the petitions and save farscape website, all that they did after sci fi cancelled it was make a completely awesome mini series.

So if you want enterprised saved, the best that will happen is probably a movie or a mini series. I doubt you will be able to get a 5th season.

Actually it did bring the sci-fi channel back to the table. By that time it was too late, though. Farscape was a good show, though, i agree. Look for more miniseries, too. Ratings went through the roof for the Sci-fi channel those nights, that got some attention.

a write in capaign saved the first show...let's try it. I'm a super ST nerd (not to the point of costumes, but I love the shows) and hate to see it go. However, it might have had a better chance if this year's content quality were in the previous years show

and WTF is up with the crappy new opening music? that song was MUCH better before the "dance beat" undermix

I'm sorry to hear, all our years without TV though probably didn't help. Just now that I'm at my mom's house do I catch Spike TV's reruns.
    BF sends his condolences too.

Thanks for the link Madcap...I will check it out and take a minute to try and save the show, as was pointed out, the original series was saved that way, tho these maybe be different times...

I remember when farscape..another good show was abruptly cancelled, I haven't seen the mini series, will probably pick it up in reruns, but at least it will give some closure rather than just leaving things hanging.

I completely agree that the time slot is killing it, its a shame they didn't get further into the season before chopping it, I am really enjoying this seasons shows...

    live long and prosper (lol)

They will finish out this season.

My opinion is that THIS season, should have been what the FIRST season was. Had it been (or had they even attempted), there would be no need to cancel it.

The downward slide started when they cut out the oiling scenes ... ... errrr ... I mean the decontamination chamber scenes.

Paramount has always had a problem with the Star Trek franchise ... from the very first series onward.

I won't go into the ancienct history of Star Trek, but will point out that when they finally got a clue that it was a gold mine, they went to the other extreme. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was OK, but "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager" pumped the well dry. While "Next Generation" still gets airtime, "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager" only get airtime if the syndication deal to get "Next Generation" requires it.

What Paramount should do is retire Berman and then let the franchise rest for at least five, if not seven years. Take a clue from Walt Disney Productions. They re-release their animated movies every seven years. Star Trek needs a rest. It needs fans actually wanting it to come back before it appearing on either the silver or small screen again. Let the fandom grow hungry. Let them fully digest all that's out there right now. And then keep an eye out for that one producer that has the magic touch to resurrect it again. Not with endless clones, but one solid series.

    Is that likely to happen?

Hell, no! Patience has never been a virtue in Hollywood. So, instead, expect Berman to crank out another crappy Star Trek franchise shortly. Maybe he's sick of it enough to make the next one a parody of the Star Trek franchise. Muppets! Yup, it will have Muppets! *insane laugh*

    Bakula Pessimistic About Saving Enterprise

    By Michelle
    February 12, 2005 - 10:22 PM

Star Trek: Enterprise star Scott Bakula sounded sad but resigned about the news of the show's cancellation in a chat last night with fans, thanking everyone for their support but saying, "Everyone at Paramount who had history with the franchise is gone. So I wouldn't even know who to tell you to complain to, because there's not anyone who really is interested."

Speaking with viewers at StarTrek.com, Bakula said that he and everyone else involved with the show was disappointed by the announcement of the cancellation, but that the show did not fit into UPN's business plan and really had not for more than two years. "That's a situation that's out of our control and ultimately has no reflection on our show or the quality of our show. Or the commmitment of all of our fans," he said.

Crediting Paramount Television president Garry Hart with getting the show a fourth season, Bakula added that there are really no executives left at Viacom willing to fight for the show, either within the network or at the studio. "Specifically, to shop the show to another network, you have to have someone from your studio have your show's best interests at heart," he explained. "To the best of my knowledge, and from reading the release that Paramount put out, they seem very content to let the show go and, I think, hoping that we would go out quietly."

The actor is aware that fans ahve been "bombarding" Viacom executive Leslie Moonves with e-mails and letters to try to encourage him to save the show. "Knowing Les as I do, I would doubt very strongly that could possibly change his mind," Bakula said. He did have a fond memory of when Quantum Leap was saved from cancellation, saying that Warren Littlefield had run a commercial showing thousands of letters being dumped onto him in his office: "The commercial was something about 'Enough already, we're putting Quantum back on the air!' I got a good laugh out of that and I fondly remember Warren and his openness to the fan support at that time."

Bakula described the cast as "very emotionally attached to the show" and said that because they enjoy working on it, they had hoped the situation would continue. "Obviously we want everyone to tune in and watch the last shows because we're extremely proud of them and we're anxious to share them with the fans," he stated. "It would be a disappointment if there was a dropoff in viewership because of the cancellation." For more, including Bakula's anticipation of the Defiant and a Gorn in upcoming episodes and Bakula's favourite part of the Superbowl (namely, the halftime show), see the original article at StarTrek.com.
