    Default Yo, Green finger people!

What is the trick to keeping flowers alive longer than a day?

I've watered them but they still look dead.

Um water them some more??? Jk

Ive heard putting asprin into the water, change the water everyday, and cut the flowers bottoms in a slant way to keep them happy and drinking more. Why I know this I dont know?
you live like an ivy vine
you can only survive by clinging onto trees
    that's your flaw
put down some roots so you can stand on your own

A florist told me that if you cut the stem you should cut it under water. She said that the stem would get an air bubble in it that will prevent the water from going up the stem. Florists also have a chemical that they put in the water that will make it last longer. Heard from someone else that putting crushed up asprin would help them last longer.

P.S. Never date a florist. It costs too much in jewlery to get our of trouble.

i cut the stems diagonally. fill the vase with lukewarm water, and dissolve in the little packet of plant food that always comes wrapped up in the flowers. i keep flowers on the mantle and the dining room table and they usually last around 2 weeks or so, depending on the type of flower. i have never tried cutting them underwater, though. oh and it also helps if you get the bunches that have mostly young buds on them, obviously.

only lasting one day, rose? wtf? are you putting them in the toaster? keep this up and you're gonna have to change your screen name.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

LMFAO MrC.. No no, silly.. She only puts Grilled Cheese in the toaster!

I must commend you, you know a great deal about flowers! It's wonderful to see a guy actually know something about this stuff.. Bravo! lol

I do cut my stems diagonally, and underwater. Aspirin works very well, especially since you only get 1 packet of that white stuff with the flowers. So it's good to have an alternative such as the aspirin.

I also change the Water in the vases every day. It seems to help, as every bouquet my husband's gotten me has lasted for up to 3 weeks each time.

I only end up throwing the stems of the flowers away. I peel off the petals and save them for potpourri.

Other than make sure they're getting enough light, and the other tips, I don't know what more to add. One day seems like a very short life for flowers. LOL.. Even the Convenience/Grocery Store flowers can last for a week or more..

    Good luck Dahling.. LOL

    ^ Haaa, shaddup you two.

My friend's boyfriend sent her roses yesterday to the hotel. She is still in Florida, and is coming up tomorrow. He asked me to 'take care of them'.....and well. They are starting to look wilted, and some of the petals are falling off. I've been watering them but they still look dead.

I'll try the tips you guys have given!
