    Default implants on an athlete...

    Hey everyone,
I have a question that I have scoured the web on without much luck.

I recently got back into running road races, after nearly a five year hiatus due to knee pain (glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM has worked wonders for me). I am also an avid cyclist and swimmer, and would like to start competing in triathlons within the next year.

Here's the thing. I have planned to get my boobs done in May (after the semester is over) but now I have concerns over its interference with my athletic performance. I am a small C (shrinking as we speak, it seems) and want to go to a large D. Has anyone else gotten a breast augmentation and continued to run, etc. after the surgery? And what was the impact of your new boobies? Thanks girls

Ahm.. If you want my opinion...
I personally don't thing really big Ds are good for sporting activities such a running.
I don't thing bood job in general is a problem but I would be easy on the size.

My sister got implants about 8 months ago. She went from a mid-A to very large C, almost D. She's relatively small, about 5'7, 120. She is a fitness nut as well. When she got her implants, she didn't run for about 2 months. After that, she got back in the groove; and aside from just geting used to them, she hasn't had to modify her work-out. She's able to run and lift as she did before. She gets little twinges in her chest when she lifts really heavy objects with her arms outstreched, but I'm guessing that will subside.

well, I'm not a fitness nut but when I now run, I have to support my boobs with my hands.

(for the record, I don't jog, I meant...run to the mailbox in the snow...run after the dog down the street...)

I am a runner too. I remember being very depressed about not being able to run for about 4-6 months after getting my implants done. I tried doing a morning jog about a month after getting my BA (I have saline implants) and I could hear and feel the fluid moving around in my implants. It was very painful and uncomfortable even with 2 quality sports bras on !
I just used the stair climber and precor machines until my body got used to the implants.

I forgot to add...I am a full D and I still wear 2 sports bras whenever I do any type of excercising.

I've just begun running again after getting implants in Oct. of last year. It was pretty painful at first, but getting better. I usually wear a good sportsbra and a support top together. It seems to work. My implants are large D's (silicone under the muscle). Swimming is actually what I find uncomfortable....guess I'll be sticking to marathons

It wasn't fun in the beginning but you have to remember this is still surgery and it takes time for the body to heal itself. Plus the body had to get used the foreign objects too. I only wear 2 sports bras now becuase I hate my boobs to jiggle when I excercise.

I was going to say the same as Farrah, you need to heal completely before you start up again, which means you'll probably have an even tougher time getting back into excercising.. You don't want to mess with you new breasts by excercsing before they are healed..
I think a recent thread wwas talking about this and a few dancers said that they saw bad results from dancers that went back to dancing too soon (same as excersing I'd say.)
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Thanks everyone for your input. Is it ridiculous that the ONLY thing that has kept me from getting implants thus far is my fear of not being able to work out intensely for a given time? I think I'm an addict...

Anyhow, i guess I'll just have to think about it more. I suppose I could do a lot of cycling while healing (no impact) But no running ???

I know someone who does a lot of weight training and has implants but I don't think she runs much. She said it was really painful afterwards for a while but she weight trained a lot with them just fine and loves them. I doubt you could do much of anything while healing. I thought I'd be running all over with my nose splint on after I had my nose done and I ended up sleeping for almost a week. Surgery is a big shock to the body and it needs time to heal.

    hey belle,

AS you know its been a couple of months for me and i am slowly getting back into the activities i was before... (gained like 5 pounds not exercising)

But my point is i guess, its not a longterm thing... If you are doing competitions though, that is a completely different thing.. The boobs might possibly slow you down, but they wont keep you away from running forever...

I know that you use exercise as a vise i guess. But 2-3 months is not forever hun!

But remember, you are beautiful either way.. ..

    Hello.

If I may politely stick my male nose in, I would like to say that my wife has very large implants(from b or so to DD) and just recently ran in the Reebok women's triathlon here in San Diego. She has had hers since she was 18 or so(25 now) ,so she has had time to become very comfortable with them. She is very fit and works part time as a fitness instructor out here.

    Good luck with your decision.
