Ok, heres something to think about..a new law has passed in some state, that kids will now be graded on their weight. WTF!? That is so ridiculous, you just dont DO that to KIDS. An upside to the situation I heard about was that the guy who did the supersize me movie is going around to schools and talking/teaching kids about eating healthy. Isnt that what they should do in the first place??

There have been reports that North Americans are heavier than the rest of the world therefore causing health problems to many. The State is probably attempting to lower the obesity rate for future generations, but they are clearly doing this in a dense manner.

Not to mention threatening to shift the Earth's axis.

It seems counterproductive. Heavy kids already have plenty of volunteers waiting around to point out their flaws without formalizing the system and having it count against them academically, too.

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Yeah, that's messed up. There's other ways to get kids to lose weight, like, get them off their butts once in awhile and make em go outside to play. Don't buy them a supersized happy meal......just some thoughts.

i really hope i dont offend anyone by saying this, but shouldnt the parents be the ones being graded? parents need to teach their children healthy eating habits, because early in life, thats where a child gets all of his or her information. laying the foundations for healthy habits is the key to a healthy kid...

*wow i read too many nutrition textbooks, lol*

by the way, i am NOT a parent, nor am i a registered dietician, so please dont yell at me saying "you're not a parent, its not that easy", and if i have offended anyone, i truly apologize, my intention was never too offend

That is so sad and dumb...poor kids.

So now F is for FAT!!! Gee thanks!

Some things about food is making good choices. Its hard when you see a McNasty on TV oosing "delicous" fatness. They even said in Supersize Me that when you see these images on TV it actually does make you want that food and make cravings for crap like that even worse. And the messed up part is everytime Im at the gym I see a dumb McDonalds commericial...awful just awful.

Negative reinforcement does not work for educational purposes. That's why the legal system doesn't work.

Seems more like they should be grading the parents on their nutrionaly skills if their kids are fat. Some of the parents think the major food groups are McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Photos Hot Dogs.

Why do people have kids if they are too busy to feed them properly?

Interesting little tidbit: in every study children are MUCH better than adults at saying "No. I've had enough. I don't want anymore." (Think about the number of times you've heard a parent tell a child to clean their plate) Adults want to finish what is in front of them - doubtless because this is what they are taught to do. Children are content to leave it. So, if these children are fat, it is probably not from appetite. (Really, most adults aren't fat from appetite either, but still). Essentially what you have a a generation of eating disorders - compulsive eating, purging, anorexia, etc. Look at this board - people here view eating as a sign of weakness for crying out loud. Grading them on it seems unlikely to help the situation - now, if we take a step back we can see that children are not being graded on how much they eat, but on their weight and "health" (and that in itself makes me cringe a little). But up close, for both boys and girls, children and adults, it seems like it is rewarding hunger. This is twisted.

I would disagree in both environments, especially since everything we're talking about here is about lifestyle choices.

But academic rankings based on weight--or even as a contributing factor--is simply retarded.
