Default Tampa Area Rave Scene ?

Can anyone fill me in on the scene in Tampa ? I'm looking for both regular and after hours and more of a dance scene than a chill scene. I'm more a PLUR type than a chemical experiment type if u get my drift

Where can a girl go to get her groove on in Tampa ? Are there any weeklys or venues besides techno clubs in Ybor ?

I'm sure there's lots of clubs in Tampa, but it might also be well worth a drive to Orlando to check out the scene there as well.

Just go to any club that has DJ Icey, Rob E, Knightlife, Baby Anne, Dave London, or some others I can't think of right off-hand. I've been away from the central Florida techno scene for too long now, and I do miss it a lot, though not some other things about the part of florida I was in, lol...

I've only been to SNV @ I-Bar in Orlando so far, any other recommendations as far as nights/events? I wanted to hit up Necropolis but... I dont know how good of a night it is.

Was pondering Tampa, but I get a lot of mixed reviews on the club scene there. Moving to Florida from NYC ruined me LOL.

The hard rock seminole casino has an after hours club. FLOYDS. That is where all the rave peeps chill here. IT is open till 6:30 every where eles pretty much closes 2:30-2:00. Had many a fun night there. All the people from all the strip clubs around here go after work.THe ones that still want to party after their shift is over.

Tampa doesn't really have the 'Rave scene".....I'd go to Orlando, or Miami () for that.

tampa does have a rave scene of sorts. there are alot of good dj/producers that live there. however that said they only take place in clubs these days. there are a few afterhours the main one now is floyds at the hard rock casino! they serve alcohol all night long. as far as clubs ampetheatre has breakbeat and mainstream techno on fridays and saturdays. level 3 has breaks upstairs on the weekends. malicious mike, factorE (nuskool) , rick west, jbreak among others live and work in the area. headliners are common at amp. from breaks to trance to house. orlando has mostly gone hiphop. i would skip orlando, with the exception of special events. try nohatersbbs.com for tampa music.

oops didnt see floyds was already mentioned!

Unfortunately, the rave scene is Tampa has gone in two directions. You either have to find a house party or go to a club. I personally prefer house parties if you want to get the PLUR vibe, but there are some decent clubs out there. I put some links at the bottom of this for you to check out. In Ybor, Level 3 is usually pretty good for atmosphere and music. Ampitheatre has good music and brings in some good dj's and they are strict about people selling drugs in the club, though at least 75% of patrons are on something when they get there. A good club that has recently started doing a weekly event is Club Underground in Tampa. I went the first week and there was a good turnout, the dj's were good, and the atmosphere was nice. They have 3 rooms - House, Breaks, and DnB/Jungle. I haven't been yet, but Nightmoves II has recently opened as an after hours club. Here's the thing about Nightmoves, until it opens as an after hours club it's an off premise swingers club. So, some of the people that are going to be there after hours are going to be swingers. But there's no sex in the club. If you really want to go to a big event, Ultra Music Festival is going to be in Miami this March, tickets are $55 or VIP is $220.

After hours clubs are the best, especially if you can still get a drink, lol. I hung out in two in Daytona, even though they didn't play techno, but were more for bikers, etc.--there also used to be a great after hours rave there but the drugs going on brought down the heat.

Rick West is great, I'd go see him wherever he was playing, in Tampa or Orlando!

That really sucks to hear about Orlando, it used to be the best place for techno! Hip hop is alright, depending on who's spinning and what they're playing, but you can hear it anywhere. They also used to have clubs open until 4-5AM, until a local news crew "The Investigators!" brought cameras in and the Bible Beaters/Family Values/Mickey Mouse types freaked, and now the clubs shut down at 2AM, except one after hours place that may be gone now.

I stopped hanging out in Orlando for the most part when I started stripclub DJing, so I'm not up on the latest developments, and I've been up here in Detroit for the last year, as well.

I can't believe that DJ Baby Anne, Icey, Dave London, Rob E, etc., have just stopped spinning, but maybe so...if you could find out where they are at, go there! Hell, they used to spin in Daytona on a regular basis at 600North, but don't go there otherwise, they have joined the stampede to hip-hop otherwise.

Well as far as my county here in Florida Raves are banned....Oh how i remember that episode! Shit.

Orlando DOES have great Techno clubs, my friend Mellisa lives there, and says new clubs are popping up all the time, not hip-hop (they have the too) but techno, after hours Metro. was hot she said.

You are not far from Orlando if you hit Tampa, i would check both areas out.

They haven't stopped all together. Baby Anne and Icey were just here about a few weeks ago I think. She makes an appearance about every 1-2 months, usually at Amp.

And yes, raves have been banned in most places thanks to the RAVE act passed a few years ago, it brought down a lot of clubs too do to some of the provisional statements.

Hallucination has a lot of fun parties. I think the next one is going to be in April? check out their website at www.hallucination.com. I love the music Monk plays (and he's cool as hell too). A lot of sexy dance stuff. I'm not as into music genres and what is what type of what but if you go to their message board there are a lot of people really into their music there. I post on there as Aviatrix.

yeah, apparently they had some stupid rave act where clubs have to close at 3. I haven't been to anything here I'd call a "rave" but I've had a lot of fun dancing in clubs or at parties. They shut down the Industry friday night at the Underground but that was a lot of fun too. dunno if that fits into "rave" though.

Sheer Bliss, thanks for filling us in about Baby Anne and Icey--I didn't think they would give up that easily, lol--and thanks everyone else for your input. I'm going to post a link to this in Music Mix, in case anyone who goes there misses this.

The rave acts are big in some areas, by whatever name. It's ostensibly to keep underage people out of clubs (whats the point of strictly carding if no alcohol is being sold any longer), and also to fight the drug use which often occurs in association with techno, etc.

It's so much better if people guzzle beer and kill each other on the streets when they try to drive home at 2 or 3 AM.

Hell, it would be stupid to deny that drugs are being taken at raves and late night clubs, but alcohol kills far more people and destroys far more lives than any rave type drugs. I know lots of people who have f*cked themselves up with X, but there's worse problems out there, deserving such draconian legislation as we are seeing.

It all boils down to people wanting to legislate morality again. All you have to do is show some footage of young, sexy women dancing provocatively, throw in a few true horror stories of people overdosing on X (which kills an infinitesimally small number of people compared to cocaine, heroin, or alcohol), and the old ladies will scream bloody murder until the politicians make sure no one has that kind of fun anymore...

The news crew that caused the death of the late night club scene in Orlando ("The Investigators", complete with snazzy graphics and a gritty musical soundbite) also created a big scandal by following a minister into the Shark Lounge in Daytona about the same time, filming him with hidden cameras, etc. A dancer friend of mine was interviewed in shadow, but naturally they edited the dialogue to suit their story, and dicked her around in other ways.

Personlly, I'm all for rooting out corrupt politicians and ministers, etc., but what I'd really like to see is these TV muckrakers have someone film them secretly while they get scolded and spanked for wetting their diapers by the expensive fetish prostitutes they see.

Yes, you should get your butt's there.

    http://www.amphitheaterybor.com/

I am there once in awhile and it rocks!!

My room-mate is friends with Baby Anne, Dj Fixx, DJ Konception, DJ Mondo, DJ Sharaz, DJ Hill, too many others to name... we are both major techno freaks.

He went to Baby Anne last night while I had to stay home sick...
