    Default Tipping the doorman/bouncer

Is it considered appropriate to tip the guy who takes your cover and checks ID at the door? I've never done that, and it only occurred to me in light of a thread on the pink site about tipping. I tip every other person I come in contact with at clubs....dancers, waitresses, the house mom (a/k/a vip monitor), the washroom attendant at the few clubs I've been to that have them.

Should I be tipping the guy at the front door? If so, how much.

Is there a tip jar there? Have they done something really great for you? Told you about a certain girl you might like or if your favorite was there? Watched out for your coat of car?
Things like that deserve tipping, especially if there is a jar right there. It's not mandatory, but a nice gesture and they'll remember it. A few bucks should do, I think.

The tipping can get way out of control. IMO go to a club that doesnt have a doorman or bathroom troll. Save your tips for the dancers.

My boyfriend was a bouncer/doorman at a club. Hardly anyone tipped him, customers or dancers. AND he walked the dancers to their cars, one by one, each night. He had to quit after a few months.

So I say tip them but I'm biased. Of course, I tip everyone that helps me.

A tip jar at the door is not customary around here, of course neither is having a friendly little hottie taking your cover charge.

Both seemed to be standard down in Texas in which case I wasn't too upset about throwing a buck in the jar. We usually have some burly looking Fat Tony who looks like he's on hiatus from the Hell's Angels sitting at the door around here.

Well, if there is a jar, it's a hint, right? If someone does something you feel "tip worthy" go for it.... If not, then it's your disgression.

I tip the bouncer who watches the VIP room at one club I go to. The dancers usualy do as well - this can create a lot of flexibilty as to when the timer is started and if anyone hears it go off...If that buys me a few extra minutes I'm shure to show my appreciation to thedancer as well. I rarely tip for individual laps, especialy if the house isn't taking a per-dance cut, however I will tip $10 or so after multiple dances. I never ask for change from a dancer.

I go to a few clubs where the bouncers or lot attendants walk the girls to their cars and it's pretty much expected that tey tip the guy.

Does he bust ass to bring in customers?
Did he recommend you to a customer who spend money on you?
Did he risk his job by letting in your friend who didn't have his ID?
Has he pulled a customer off you?
Did he walk you to your car or hotel at the end of the night?
    Give you really good head?

Before we went to some SCs in Montreal we did some reading up on local 'etiquette' and there it seems that tipping the bouncer/doorman was the way to get a good table. There was no cover charge, but it seemed to be expected that you tip the door guy. I imagine it varies depending on where you are though.

If there's a tipjar at the door, no harm in throwing a $1 in there. If there's no tipjar, don't worry about tipping the doorperson, UNLESS that person does you a favor like pointing you to a specific girl you ask for or get you a seat in a crowded club.

It seems like I'm tipping everyone at a club...the doorperson, the bartender, the waitress, the dancers, and the bathroom attendant!
