    Default Waxing - dear god!

I had my first bikini wax. And dear god, how it hurt. I always thought I had a high tolerance for pain. Evidently not. It was horrible. I was bleeding out of the hair follicles after. But. Now it feels so nice - I don't want to go back to shaving, but the thought of experiencing that wrenching pain frequently is cowing me. So. Anyone know of a topical anesthetic that works for this sort of thing? I would love you forever, but without all the peskiness of someone doing it in-house. You would simply know that you were loved without having me bug you constantly. That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Wow, you bled?! (is that how that's spelled?) That's nuts. Had you recently taken asprin or anything? Did she have to repeatedly wax the same areas? What time of wax did she use?

IMO, the BEST wax is the one they put on and let harden and then pull off. The waxers that use wax and cloth aren't that great. More often than not, the hair just breaks off rather than being removed from the root.

If you took Asprin, don't do that again. Take a few tylenol and eat a bananna (not sure why on the bananna, but I heard it works). I usually have a glass of wine before I get waxed down south. I like the pain. Pain makes me laugh....it's odd. Anyway, if I don't have that glass of wine to sooth my nerves...I'm giggling uncontrollably.

I don't think you should have bled. I think maybe your waxer was a bit rough. Did she use muslin strips or just wax (French wax I think it is called)?

It will get easier the more often you get waxed. But crap, you bled?!?!? Ouch! Maybe look for someone else to wax you...

It will get easier and less painful (if there is such a thing), but do not wait to go every 5-6 weeks, because it will hurt more. I go every three weeks, and it really isn't that painful. DO NOT GO WHEN YOU ARE CLOSE TO YOUR PERIOD. IT WILL HURT LIKE A MOTHER***. The best time to go is just after your period.

I take one Advil about 30-45 minutes before my apointment. I use a topical numbing gel that is used for laser, although this only lessens the pain by a wee bit. And if the spa serves wine then drink up!

Also, only go to the European women. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

My first time was by a Chinese woman in a nail salon and I bled also from the hair follicles. I swore I would never do it again and it took me two years to go back and get one done. I learned my lesson!!

I agree with CG, you sure shouldn't have bled. I never have (except once, and that was an accident).

The pain will get MUCH less the more you do it. I don't think I could ever go back to shaving.

Always go to a spa or a place that specializes in waxing, too. Typical hair salons have what I like to refer to as "drive-by" waxers! lol

Yeah, bleeding is no good. There is a topical anesthetic that you can buy in most stores called "Campo-Phenique". I got my little bottle of it right here. It works pretty well. I've used it over strawberries and scrapes from sliding. It's got camphor oil in it. Can get it in like Wal-Mart and Walgreen's, places like that, should be near the band-aids. I got my armpits waxed one time as a joke with my sister. Wasn't very funny. Hurt like a bitch.

I've heard armpits are the most painful!!

I never thought waxing was a good idea since it might interfere with dancing.......don't want pricklies hanging out the tback ya know? Now, I'm not dancing and I'm thinking I should start waxing.........but I don't make the money I used to, haha.

Honestly it's lovely, after it's done. Right now, I'm wondering how I could ever stand shaving (I also have to shave with the grain instead of against if I want to avoid the ingrowns - it doesn't matter from a work perspective, but for my own touching enjoyment it kind of sucked). My est. used muslin on the outer labia and a wax that hardened on its own on the inside. I might try someplace else - I was also thinking about laser hair removal. Does that hurt less? Because even really, really cheap I would pay about $500 a year on waxing. I was thinking it might be nice to laser the pubic region and under my arms. My legs I kind of enjoy shaving. I don't know why - I just like it.

Ohh, gosh, they had a story on either the local or national news a night or two ago about places using those laser treatment machines incorrectly, uncalibrated, or what not. They were showing women who had all kinds of splotches all over her body where they'd used that thing incorrectly. Made me cringe so bad I had to turn it off.

Ouch! If you go that route, be sure and investigate the place that you get it done at!!!

I once tried to wax myself, using the muslin strips, and I bled also. Do you not bleed with the other type of wax?

I don't get waxed but only due to the fact that I am a brokeass grad student and can't afford the upkeep. I've been told by friends in the know that bikini waxing, especially brazilian style, needs to be done using a different kind of wax than is used on other body parts. I know the Elizabeth Arden Red Door spas are supposed to all use the special soft wax. If you don't have one around you ask for referrals to a spa and find out what they use. Do NOT go to a regular salon... that's fine for arms or legs (I went to the uber cheapie vietanamese nail place for leg waxing as well as nail care) but when the labia gets involved, you need to see a pro. I hate shaving and can't wait till I can afford waxing again and eventually laser removal. Of course when I realize I'm perfectly ok with being in a funny position and having a professional rip all the hair off my pussy and butt, I no longer have the money to do it.

I waxed a few times, and I always bleed! My eyebrows, legs, bikini.. always bleed.
Anyways, last time I went for a bikini wax I got all brave and told her to take it all off, but it was SOOOO painful I had to stop her right there. Now, the area that was waxed has about half as much hair as the area that got abandoned! I guess this means that once you wax once, half the hair doesn't grow back, therefore less pain next time!

I was told a local anesthetic called "emila" or "emola" or something like that did wonders for pain.. The girl who told me about it had a big tattoo all the way around her torso and she said she used the cream while getting tattooed and it didn't hurt! I think shoppers carries it, it's like $25 for a tiny tube

If you decide to do it again, go to another salon. Ask anyone for good recomendations, some places dont use up to date products...

Speaking of good recomondations... does anybody have any good recomodations of a good place for brazilian waxes either in the springfield, ma area, or within about an hour drive of hartfort, ct? my spring break is in two weeks and i'm going to be auditioning to get back into dancing in about a week, but because my hair grows so quickly and i have trouble with razor burn i won't be able to dance more than every other day unless i get waxed. i've never done it before, but i've just read about every post on this about waxing, so even though i'm a little nervous about the pain, i'm ready to take the plunge anyway, any ideas of a good place to go would be really appreciated. thanks ya'll.

I'm a life-long waxer. Whilst I would love to do laser hair removal .... it is out of my price range. Waxing is still within my price range (costing me around $50 AUD to have full leg, underarm, eyebrows, bikini done).

The more you wax... the less you wax basically. After 12+ years of waxing (my mother got me started around age 12)... I now only have my upper legs waxed once (maybe twice) a month. My lower legs once a fortnight.. sometimes once a month if I can stretch it... my eyebrows are about once a fortnight.. my bikini... the underneath takes longer to grow back (well to a notice-able stage in re: dancing) than the top. The top I get done once a fortnight whereas I get the underneath done once a month.

Since I've been doing it for so long I'm totally used to the pain. I've adapted to it just like a smoker adapts to the unpleasant taste of cigarettes. It still hurts... just that I do not fear the pain... and am ready for it.. therefore am fine with it.

I don't recall bleeding at any time tho'... then again I've been using the same waxing salon for years now...

When I first tried dancing many years ago, I shaved. I was then advised to wax due to my ingrown outbreaks. I have been waxing and threading my face ever since. I never wanted to think about a razor ever again. The first times I had it done I went to this crazy Russian lady who made me feel like I was being tortured in a jail. She yelled at me and made me bleed several times, not cute. Anyway now I go to this great salon in SF and have a wonderful asthetician who does quick work on all of my areas (Legs, Brazilian, Face). She is a little expensive but it is totally worth it. BTW for the ladies who experience ingrowns there is a product called PFB (perfect for bumps). It is a roll on gel that when used after light exfoliation in the shower wors miracles! Much better than Tend Skin.

okay, I left it was too long because I was so frightened, but I bought some numbing cream, and I am headed back to the waxer tonight! I plan to work next week, and it looks like I am carrying a particularly vicious walrus between my legs, so it's bite the waxy bullet or just go back to shaving.
So here I go - thank you ladies for all your help.
