Default How important is pole work?

I have never used the pole, and have no idea how. I did buy a video to watch and get ideas from, but I havent got a pole to work on. Im still working on getting ready for amateur night in a few weeks or so. Is using the pole a must on stage? Do all the girls use it? Do you make more money if you incorporate it into your routines? I do want to learn some moves on it, but it looks hard. Should I buy one to learn on or is it not worth the investment and figure it out in time when I start working? I dont want to practice in front of a room full of customers either...kinda awkward.

No, it's not necessary at first. Last night was my first night, and only a couple of girls could do pole tricks... and they were the ones who had been dancing for years. Just use the pole to balance yourself. As long as you move slow, you'll be sexy and make money!

Depends entirely on club or local area. In some places pole work is a major assest if not a req'mt & in other clubs there is no pole at all.

It is in a dancers best interest to learn to do some basic pole moves but u don't really need to do all the major tricks every night to earn decent $

I have to disagree a little.

Pole work is usually a very good thing. Unless you are a monkey and you spend your whole set on the pole.

But on the other hand not doing any pole work can be bad too.

I usually do a few pole tricks on each set, and do mostly floor work.

I didn't actually own a pole till last year, (I've danced for over 10 yrs), but if you really are worried about it; it can be a good investment.

You can always talk tot he mgmt, and see what time everyone gets there and see if you can come in early or stay late to practice too.

Excellent advice! Customers like variety, even if it is with the same dancer. If you give good ld's, why not have a pretty good pole routine as well.

I was a pole/stage dancer for years at Pure Platinum. I made lots of money getting down with the pole, i would get on it, and hang at times, or just flat out look like i was having sex while being against the pole. It does sell.

One thing that bothered me was the pole walkers. They just walk around the pole holding it with one hand, while the just slide up and down while standing with their backs to it.

Good pole work starts with building strength. I practiced at play grounds! Then had a pole installed in my home. I adore the pole, no fear (which is why i fall) and will hang, spin, and flip up onto it.

Take you're time, wear leather gloves at first to learn you're grip, also boots wont hurt either, this helps you stick while you gain confidence.

I have seen many dancers fall (myself included) on stage, and knowk over drinks.

Be careful, it's not a toy, if you have very long hair this will get in the way. But yes the pole will help increase earnings, as some guys like a female with a long hard object between their legs while they move!!!

i really don't think its that important. If you can do pole work, cool.. if not, you can still be very sexy and entertaining

I agree with tampadancer on this one.
Personally, I don't do pole work, but that is mostly because the club I was working in did not have a pole. Plus, some places limit what you can do. No matter what, do what you feel comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable with pole work, then don't do it.

one of the best hussler/dancers in my club barely touches the pole, at thee club down the road the best dancers does tonnes of tricks.

    it depends on the person.

but a few tricks wouldnt hurt, unless you can do the whole eye contact thing perfectly..

    didnt matter in the least!
you feel sexier (yourself) if you could use, so you had more things to do on stage so you didnt run out of ideas, then you'd feel more confident which would look sexier.....
but confidence is like a million zillion times more important than stupid pole tricks,
you'll pick them up later when you get bored and want to try new things.
and the other girls will usually be happy to show you things before/after work
if you reeally wanted you could do some pole classes........
but its seriously no big deal! as long as you look good, pole or no pole.

I'd rather not work at a club that doesn't have a least one stage with a pole... on the other
hand (ironically) I don't do any pole tricks. I just like to have it to hold on to... kind of like
a prop or a security blanket... go figure.

I dont do pole work, I love to see it though. I think it's really cool, I'd like to learn a few moves. But, I still do okay without it.

I really hate to bring this up, but I must.....if you're going to do polework of any kind, pay attention to what other girls are doing with the pole........notice what parts of their bodies are getting rubbed on the pole......I'm not a germ-phobe, but you never know about the bodily fluids, bacteria, etc. that can be dangerous..........better to be cautious, perhaps have the pole rubbed down with alcohol regularly.

Pole work isn't important at all. In better clubs girls just sachet around stage and don't even dance.

The money in this business isn't in selling dances.Spend your time learning how to approach all the customers and persuade them to buy dances and you will be successful as a dancer.

Pole work is a waste of your time. It won't increase your income.

I think pole work is strictly for showness of it...for the performer types of girls. Thats great though b/c I love to watch a girl to great pole work even if she isnt that pretty. Ill go ahead and tip her extra for trying so hard and putting on an awesome show.
But, in the end I think personality will always win dance depsite lack of stage/pole work.

I disagree with you Tina... I do some pole tricks. I think It's kind of funny, beacuse, I dont know how to do any of the simple ones, just the difficult ones. And not many girls can do them. When I go on stage, no one can be sitting there, but I get everyone at the stage, I like to put on a show. Im a big stage hog. I hate doing VIPs. So when I get to the stage I love to have fun, and do flips and all that. I make a lot more [on stage] than the other girls because I do something different. Guys get board seeing the same thing over and over and over again. And pole tricks will spice it up.

I don't do pole work anymore. I don't like the bruises I get on my inner thighs. I just prance around and look pretty and I still do pretty well on stage.
