I think it's retarded that they will give these things to people without a test or something, just if you're lucky you can have now. That's what the world is coming to? Instead of inviting proffesionals and people with skills and good attitudes Americans prefer those who fluke out and get lucky?

uhhh and what kind of "test" should there be? is there a certain level of intelligance you ONLY like to be allowed into the states? i mean you guys can breed the thickest people there is, yet expect immigrants to pass a TEST?lmao

professionals have no trouble getting greencards anyways, as they would get sponsered by their company.

When I lived in NYC I met a japanese girl who tried for 4 years in that lottery and finally won. Her dream came true; she now works as a receptionist in a dentist's office in NYC, USA.
Whats so bad about Japan? I'd love to live there!
You know the saying? ... Celeste is the best!

So it is actually possible then? .... What did she have to do once she was notified that she won?

Your best option is to get sponsored by a US company and let their legal department get you a green card and, if you like, citizenship.

The "easiest" option is simply marrying an American. If you want to be a "bit" unethical, you can just ask any single American guy if they'd do that for you. If you don't mind being a "bit" more unethical, you can pay a single American guy to be your husband.

The other route is simply fly here on a tourist visa and then stay until the US gives another "amnesty' to "illegal" aliens in the country. That happens and you just have to prove you were here for X number of years without being caught. Seriously, very few companies ever check your citizenship here ... especially if you don't look Hispanic or have a foreign accent.

The roughest route is getting impregnanted by an American and getting your citizenship through your child. My understanding is that you don't even have to be in the US at that time. You just have to prove the father was an American. A simple DNA test and ... *pop* ... you're eligable.

That doesn't get you a green card, but a a work permit. Two TOTALLY different thing.

I don't think you take a test, but I believe that they do a background check/criminal check. Don't know what else can be done...

Heh.. You know what? I'd be more for the idea of giving most US Citizens a test to allow them to stay in the country. More than half wouldn't be qualified by any standards.

As for the whole Green Card Lottery thing, I'm split on it. If someone wants it bad enough to wait it out and see if their number's pulled, then chances are they'd do well here.

Qualified for anything that people seeking green cards should be, of course.

I have no freaking idea what the test would involve. I didn't come up with the idea or mention it first in this thread.

My parents and I had to take a written and verbal exam before we were able to proceed with naturalization. Yes mermaid, we had no know stuff about US history, the government, and show a good knowlege of working day to day english. For instance I remember my dad had to answer questions about driving to certain places using certain roads in Houston, etc.....

We lived in the states at least 5 years before we could apply for naturalization and came here as political/religious refugees. The kind of refugees who wanna make $$$$$, LOL!

Yeah a friend of mine just entered the green card lottery - wow what a fuckaround that was trying to get the pics to the right specification, lol! I think about entering sometimes, but I don't know if I'd really want to live in America.
One of his friends Dads won it once and never ended up using it!

This is not accurate. Since 9/11, it now takes YEARS to become a citizen after marriage...and you have to prove that you were not married in order to become a citizen (proof of courtship...engagement, etc). Happened to one of my friends...and she has 7 years before her marriage will kick her into citizenship.

This is also false. A foreigner impregnated by an American does not get citizenship. The baby, however, will have dual citizenship. The baby can come to America with no problem, but that does not hold true for the mother. The only time it'll work is if the mother has the baby (who has dual citizenship) and the American father agrees to marry her (which will get her safe harbor here) but she will not fully become a citizen for another 7 years.

Why is everyone so mad about taking a test? I don't think we need to test their intelligence, but I think everyone should be required to speak fluent english. Why shouldn't they have to speak our language? It would benefit them as well. I would even be so ballsy as to make it a law that they have to speak our language in public or in the workplace. I'm sick of getting my nails done and having everyone speak Korean around me. I think that is very rude. Don't bother suggesting that I have a choice not to go there, because I shouldn't have to and choose not to. They do the best job on my nails, and I'll put up with it.

As far as us breeding morons sometimes, that's true but they were born citizens.

I have nothing against people from other countries (as stated in another post, my family is Iranian.) I love other languages and took Spanish for three years and love latin culture. I just feel that everyone who lives here should have to know how to speak english. I hate going into a store or other business and the person helping me barely knows what I'm talking about.

A psych evaluation should be a necessity. We have enough crazy people here comitting crimes, we don't need any more. They should test for diseases, like aids and hepatitis.

This is America, but we don't have to let everyone into this country if it could be a hinderance.
