    Default BTKerplunk...

I don't know if anyone's been keeping up with the story of this retard, but it's pretty interesting. Glad this one's put away.

Apparently the guy was pretty freaky (understatement alert), some kind of code enforcer for lawns, pets, and busted down cars or something. Let your grass get too high and the local serial killer comes and gives you a ticket, how fucked up is that?

I have been following this ever since he started sending the letters. What was he thinking? With the improvements in investigative and forensic techniques he had to realize he would get caught. Maybe thats what he wanted.

They can't fry him unless they can link him to a murder after 1994. There was no death penalty in 1970's-80's Kansas.

Being in law enforcement myself ( K9 patrol) I am just thrilled at this development inthe BTK case.

It is my hope that he will have his mind picked by psych specialist and even a section taken of his brain when he dies so it can also be studied.

Interesting side debate: Are there more serial killers, molestors, etc now than there were say 50 years ago - or do we just know about more incidents?

I think it's a combo of both. There are more people now, than 50 years ago, combined with the latest technology.

Good question, but I don't know. There are more people in the world now, so I guess proportionally we would have more psychos.

Back to BTK, this is better than a novel! I've been watching the news about it, and the things this guy has done have been just insane. The idea of having such very distinctly different lives (serial killer and good citizen) for such a long period of time just boggles my mind.

Most serial killers are "good" citizens. They know how to make people feel safe around them and to let down their guard. A lot of them are pretty good looking too (Ted Bundy for one.)

If only life were the movies where the ugly are the bad and the pretty are the good. But it just ain't so. Kinda a perversion on reality so many movies are.

And to think that I'm just a 45 minute drive from the center of all this.

People just can't believe how extensive the media coverage has been over the last four days and I assume with the upcoming trial, things are only bound to get worse.

The little suburb where he lives I guess has just been jammed with traffic. They've actually had media from Japan and people from as far away as California driving down his street.

I looked his home address up on Mapquest, to find out that I've actually eaten at fast food restaurants located about two blocks from this guy's house.

Its also kind of disturbing how some people are trying to monetarily capitalize on this:

Some people actually had this guy's business card, and compliance notices with his signature up on eBay before eBay pulled their auctions. One seller wanted $10K for theirs, but I don't think they had any takers.

With the way the world is anymore, I'm sure the networks are already planning a made for TV movie about this whole mess.

Today he was formally charged with 10 murders and apparently has confessed to some of them. You can read more about it here:

It seems to me that BTK was very good at making sure his that his tracks were covered. He fooled his own family into thinking he was a devoutly Christian husband and father for three decades, even as he held on to evidence of his crimes in his own home. That's what was so eerie about this guy. He did a masterful job at hiding in plain sight.

Considering that he had a degree in Criminal Justice, held sort of a semi-law enforcement job, and installed security systems in people's homes during the time of his crime spree, figuring that he would do what he did and get away with it for so long isn't all that inconcieveable.

I talked to my sister in law this afternoon and she says that law enforcement in our county (one county over from this is going on) are now taking a closer look at some of the unsolved murders here during the past few decades. There's a lot of rumors being slung about in the media, and the DA and police in Wichita aren't exactly happy about it.
