Default Anyone working in Vegas or LA? Need club info!

I've been taking lessons at the Sfactor and at a dance studio in Tarzana for a year. I have a pole at my house, and I absolutely adore dancing! I want to try working in a club - but have no idea what it's like. I live in LA, and am exploring the possibility of moving to Vegas to attend UNLV. No matter where I end up working, I would want to do it extremely part time - like one night a week here, or one/two weekends a month in Vegas. Is that possible? I work as a massage therapist now, and am used to shifts no longer than 4 hours and mostly work self-employed. the prospect of an 8 hours shift is very daunting to me. I hear ch2 lets you leave early if you want?

I posted a thread on newbies about what it's like to work at a club - I am especially interested in CH2, OG and Sapphires, along with 4play here in LA. I don't have any idea what a shift is like, ie, what you are supposed to do when you're there.

Everyone here always hears about these girls who go to Vegas and make 5 grand in a weekend, I'm seeing here from all the posts that a good night is only $500+? What's the average in LA? What clubs make the best money - and is there anywhere I can make a lot of money on stage? I know venus faire here in LA is a peepshow - but I don't think they have poles, and I am all about poles. I don't mind laps, but don't know how good I will be at hustle.

I just want to have fun and make some extra cash, and have some income if I move to Vegas for school. I am very apprehensive and would love a mentor or some emailed advice - I may be in Vegas the third week of March. Email me or post, please please please.

PS - I am 5'4, 110-115, 32A - but full and perky! I'm late 20s, but can pass for barely legal, I am more adorable than beautiful. I also have three tattoos, but one can can be covered by a tbar and the other by my hair. Third is very small on ankle.

Hmm, I've worked at most of the clubs you're asking about. You're asking a lot of questions, so I'm not sure where to start, and you're up against a real animal (LAS VEGAS), so I want to prepare you but not scare you off. Okay, this is what I know:
4Play in LA is exceptionally difficult to get into and even harder to make money once you do. They like Barbie-doll types, almost without exception and will not really consider you if you're over 25. They prize themselves on hiring flawless, fit and usually enhanced girls, aboslutely no tattoos allowed of any kind. Imagine soft-porn starlets. The dances are monitored heavily and since LA is a mid-mileage town, there's not much money there, since they guys usually spend thier money elsewhere and go to 4play more for eye candy. Not a place to work if you're trying to make fast money,. which was my impression based on your post.
Vegas is not a town you just roll into and make money. First you will need to secure a "sherrif's card" and now they're requiring a business license. The business license will report you to the IRS as an entertainer, so if you're trying to fly below the radar and are considering going into a profession where dancing would be frowned upon, know that you will now have permanent record as an exotic entertainer in Vegas. this is realtively new, they started requiring it last June. Also, if I remember correctly it costs $100, so add that to your list of expenditures.
OG is pretty easy to get into, regardless of how you look, they hire just about eveyrone since the turnover is high. CH2 is impossible to get into, except for the dayshift. the way it works is that you just show up on the night shift and pretend they've already hired you. As ridiculous as this seems, that's how everyone I know got the job (including myself). When I went in for an audition they told me they weren't hiring. So then I went back a month later and just went in through the employee entrance with no problem - strange...?
Sapphires will probably hire you since they have a very bad turnover, however, they prefer the barbie-doll, enhanced type (this goes for most vegas clubs). the hustle factor is HIGH, HIGH, HIGH. at any Vegas club.
The saddest thing I've ever seen are sweet girls who come into Vegas (and they do in droves), hoping to cash in on the money they've heard is there and they are utterly unprepared for what they are up against. You will be up against REAL pros. And I don't just mean prostitutes, (although the outside "arrangements" scenario is alive and well in Vegas, and MANY girls who are saying they've made $5000 a weekend are doing it the old-fashioned way, but may not be telling you that). Another way girls make bank is to take advantage of the tourist-factor. that being, they think nothing of doing two dances with a guy and telling him he owes $250 dollarrs, or actually stealing his wallet, or what-have-you. They figure they'll never see him again, so what do they care. And there are girls who are practised in this art all around you. I could never do that, it just seemed inhumane, and deceitful, and consequently, Vegas is not my kind of town.
If you're wanting short, mellow shifts, where you can make a lot of money and don't have to hustle that hard, and can be rewarded for stage/pole work, don't work in Vegas or LA, that's the bottom line. No one pays any attention to the stage at all in Vegas (many girls opt out to even going on stage), and in LA, it mostly serves as an advertisement for booth action.
You may want to try some of the alcohol clubs in OC, they tend to be more mellow in terms of shift hour requirements and the stage shows are actually watched, since the lap dances are tame. Clubs like Fritz in Bellflower, Imperial Theater in Anaheim, check out zbone.com for more info. Realize though that, especially for a new dancer without regulars, in LA you will make around $200 on a good shift at these clubs.
There's money to be made in LA and Vegas, but you have to go into it as if you're going into war. You can't start out with the midset that you are only comfortable working a certain amount of hours and by dazzling them with pole capabilities. Not when you're up against a veteran hustler who's letting them do coke off her tits and meeting them in an hour at the Bellagio for a fifty-dollar blowjob and hopefully a couple grand spending chips for her efforts. Think about it. Do not go in naively, girl, you will be in enemy territory.
    Hope this helps.

thanks! especially for the info on 4play, I had planned on going in there Tuesday for Amateur night. I'm doing as much research as I can to get as much knowledge as possible, I don't want to go into anything with the wrong idea.

I have a question about the business license in Vegas - what does it look like - does it list under the license exotic dancer, or adult entertainment? My massage license here says Massage therapist - off premise. I'm asking, because I'm considering UNLV and for residency requirements you need to prove you're there for a job - and since no matter what I do I'm not likely to be an employee anywhere, and a business license would be great proof - even if I don't end up dancing. I don't have enough training hours yet to get the massage license there yet.

Actually looking at it, it says neither. Check out thier website at www.tax.state.nv.us, it is simply a "business license", and yes, looking at it now, i see it was $100.00. As far as I understand it, you have to report quarterly and the IRS knows that your "business" is an adult entertainer, but for UNLV's purposes, the paperwork would probably work just fine, although it doesn't state a business location of hours or any of that. Still, MANY girls at UNLV work in the local clubs, so I would think they'd be more accomodating and used to working with local dancers. As for 4play, you could go to the club as a customer first to check out thier amateur contest. Look at the girls who work there, not the ones in the contest, that wil give you an idea of what they are looking for.

    thanks again dancerlala! You rock.

I see from a lot of other threads that some clubs also want a City license on top of the state license, and that one has club info and erotic dance, etc on it. And does the sheriff's card say anything in particular? I know casino workers need those as well, and was wondering if they were different or generic.

I don't know what I would've done without this forum!!!!!!

Okay there's a little confusion. there are only TWO things you will need in Vegas:
    1. A sherriff's card
    2. A business license
There is no seperate license you need for the city, or what-have-you, it's just those two things. Unfortunately, I don't know the links to the place where you can get a sherriff's card, but I know the office is downtown and it takes all day to sit in line with a hundred other sweaty angry people and then your ss# is run to make sure you haven't committed any felonies and then you are fingerprinted, photographed, and given a sherriff's card. The casino workers and dancers all get the same card, it simplys says, "Sherriff's Card, non-gaming", which, if I remember correctly means that you have never been convicted of a felony, therefore can work around big money, however, you do not have access to become a dealer (that would be a "gaming card"). Anyway, I forgot which forms of ID you need to get a sherrif's card, it may be something like picture ID and birth certificate, or SS card or passport, something like that, check thier site, because if you go without proper ID they will not grant you a card, NO MATTER WHAT.
In order to even get a card you have to get an application for a card from one of the dance clubs, meaning, you have a potential job somewhere. Some clubs are very cool about giving these out and some are not. Go to any of the smaller clubs during the day and ask if you can get an application from a manager or house mom, it should be no problem. Try "Striptease", Lil Darlins", Deja Vu", you have to pretend that once you get the card you plan on working there, but you are not obligated to return to the club who granted you the application. Once you have your card and then have bought your business license, you will take those two items to the club you want to work at (ie, in your case Sapphires). Do NOT go to Sapphires to get your application. They do not want to be bothered with newbies, so it's better to take care of your paperwork before you step foot in a bigger club, make sense?

Dancerlala i love your informative no nonsense replys, very nice. I've never been to LA or hear much about the industry out there so i'm curious. Do you have any other recommend clubs in LA for dancers besides the ones mentioned?

Thank you wise guy for the compliments. The clubs in LA are so different, it would be hard to recommend one for a dancer, it would really depend on what she was looking for since they vary in terms of layout, mileage expectation, shift requirements, hiring criteria, location, etc. The best start would be to look on zbone.com, which is a free web site listing virtually every club in LA. Hope this helps.

I also agree, good comments dancerlala.....I danced in Vegas for 3 years....

Vegas can be like going into a war zone no doubt about that!...

I know the location for Sheriff's cards has been changed. It's not down on Fremont street anymore. The price has also gone up since I got my card to $74. The main thing you need is form of ID, SSN # and if you're under 25 your birth certificate.

    Obtaining your Sheriff's Card:
    1. 588 Cameron Street (near Russel and Decatur).

    2. You must have a copy of a signed referral slip from the company that is employing you. (this is the slip you will get from a club).

    3. You must be 21 year old if employed in a gaming position, such as dealer, or if you dispense alcoholic beverages, such as bartender or cocktail waitress.

    4. If you are under 25, you must show your birth certificate.

    5. If you are a non citizen present proper documentation from Immigration and Naturalization Service.

    6. Pay a $74.00 fee.

    7. Work cards are valid for five years.

The sheriff's card will not say anything on it about you being a dancer. Just your picture, ID# and that it is a Non-Gaming card.

    Hope this info helps you.

Get to the Sheriff's office early, like 8am maximum! It takes at least 1.5 hours to get through all of the areas. Then go to get the business license, that is fast.

Get a ride or drive if you can. It cost me like $80 in cabfare to go to both places, I was staying off the strip near the airport!

80 cabfare, that sucks!!! If you are able, rent a car from dollar, hertz, etc, just for the one day while you take care of your paperwork. All the major hotels have drop-off capabilitites in the lobby, so you jsut leave the car at the hotel (no need to bring it back to the airport). Anyway, at $15 a day, a rental usually is your cheapest bet. Also, budget suites has weekly rates that are pretty cheap. Better to go with a friend though, and WATCH FOR MUGGERS, there are low-lifes in Vegas who follow dancers leaving the club in cabs (since they know they are out-of-towners) and mug them or worse when they are attempting to go into thier hotel, unless the hotel has a big casino-lobby (like Stratoshpere). But Budget Suites is just like pulling up into an apartment. Cheap, but not safe.

You're totally right Lala. Now I remember, I thought my ride would be covered or that I could rent a car, but it was CIS and my ride fell through so I got stuck cabbing it! Definately rent a car!!!

    Pandora,

If you haven't already, browse through the threads in Hustle Hut and check into dancerwealth.com. Your ability to make money has very little to do with your pole dancing skills. I love the SFactor tape; but in my opinion, it has very little practical application to the profession of exotic dancing....it's a workout tape.

Unlike the movies, guys don't sit stageside and throw hundreds of dollars at you because you can do pole tricks. At some clubs in Vegas, there aren't even any poles onstage and there certainly aren't any poles in the VIP room where you make most of your money. Don't get me wrong, these skills will help you get noticed, but they won't close the sale.

I think your skills as a massage therapist will come in handy much more. Funny, my lapdances are more of a "topless neck rub" than a dance. The stressed out business traveler and just-got-off-work laborer eat it up! They tell me all the time "Oh you should be a massage therapist instead" and I'm thinking "...yeah, what massage therapist gets paid 10 bucks every 3 minutes" Very rarely do they ever buy just one dance, because it feels so good. It also helps them to relax and establishes trust and rapport between us.

Thanks for the advice - I actually just got back from vegas and checked out OG there - extremely disappointed, because no poles. It never occurred to me places wouldn't have poles! I was really mad because we paid $20 each to get in and was there about 10 minutes.

I don't do the SFactor tape - I actually go to the studio to learn the dancing, and there's a lot of great stuff to learn. But after all the research I've done, I don't think working at a club is for me. At OG there was a lot more contact in the laps than I was comfortable with - I didn't think that much was allowed - lots of guys holding breasts and sticking hands down gstrings. Not for me! I wish there was a place that focused more on skills and performance onstage, but I bet nobody would really go then. :-(

    Oh well.....

Vegas strip clubs are not the place for performance skills. Guys don't give a damn about that there. They want lap dances and alot of the guys want all they can get....cause it's "Sin City"....They do have go go dancers at some of the regular night clubs. But then you get paid a regular wage and get some tips. But money is way less than stripping doing that.
That's why there's the saying "what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas"...there's alot more going on than most people can imagine.
