    Default Mst3k

Mystery Science Theater 3000... What a dynamite show that one was...

For me, a guy that LOVES shitty sci-fi movies, it was a godsend. I fucking love making fun of oddball movies. One of the cool things in my life, among many, is sitting down with some buddies, having some beers, and watching something like Gymkata. Just sitting there ripping the movie apart! For this reason i LOVE Battlefield Earth, bad movies, you gotta love goofing on them. Or watching Godzilla Vs. the sea monster. What entertainment value can that have? It's a guy in a clown suit growling! Giving something the MST3K treatment all of a sudden makes it cool... I love it!

What movies are soooooo bad they are good? What movies do you like to goof on?

Ah Madcap, a man after my own heart. Now don't ask me to recite any MST3K trivia as I was totally stoned every time I saw that show and remember NADA!

    Totally cheeseball movies?

    Porky's
    Spaceballs
    ANYTHING by Monty Python

But the ones I really used to goof on were Goonies or Crybaby

*Mad hunny, don't hate me; but I used to love watching the old Batman series, the whams and kerpows always made me laugh!

Mystery Science Theater was one of my favorite all time shows. I first saw that in Chicago a few years back.

Even better than bad sci-fi might just be those old Bible epics, "Samson and Delilah", etc., or cheesy Hercules movies.

Hey, for what it is i love it too. It's a spoof. And, plus, it saved comics back when readership dwindled the first time (The second time readership dwindled, they had to grow up and stop publishing for kids, because people like me were growing out of it, that was 1986).

BUT, when Joel Schumacher got tapped to make Batman Forever, his obvious admiration for the late 60's show was a cause for alarm (not to mention that he paid just a tad TOO much attention to Val Kilmer's ass). I mean, we know where that led. Ahnuld playing a shitty Mr. Freeze, and Uma in yet another stupid hair-do (as much as i like her, you can hardly fucking recognize her from one movie to the next).

Ah, Madcap, I luv you. MST3K is the bomb. I was freaking out when I saw it for the first time ("Robot puppets in space?") After that, I also found jumpsuits sexy ; )
Definitely a hallmark of Midwestern American humor.

i didn't like MST3K as much after Joel left. it was never quite the same. "ah, i love the smell of flaming giant lizard in the morning...smells like....chicken". i think my favorite moment ever, and it was stupid, but when some guy got poked on his bare chest and they made a "ding dong" noise. it cracked me up. i also really liked when they did the cheesy "educational films" from health class from the 50's or whatever.

when "the phantom menace" came out , i was sitting there with about 10 of my smartass friends and we were so bored with the film we started playing mst3k live, in the theater. it was a matinee showing and there weren't many people there, but another group of guys joined in and it was HILARIOUS. in our version, yoda talked a lot of smack. it's incredibly fun to do with old kung fu movies too. just mute it and make up your own dialogue.

Same here, kittyKat. I couldn't tell you shit about even one episode. I know some of the jokes, but as far as trivia goes, forget it. I just love goofing on stuff. I know some jumbled stuff, but for the life of me i can't see the need to know any trivia other than comics.

    For instance...

Doc Savage's (1930's pulp hero) first name was Clark.

The Shadow's (1930's pulp hero) first name was Kent.

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were winking at pulp fans when they named the big blue boy scout (with the "S" on his chest). Also the first idea for Superman was as a villan! That survived in the form of Lex Luther. They got the name from Nietzsche. Actually, the idea is brilliant. That a 'Superman' uses all his abilities for the betterment of all, and that he doesn't consider himself superior ("Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what i can do.").

So yeah, there's some stuff i'm a dork over. But, oh well, i'm lovable...
