    Sad Ahhhhhhh BRUISES!

I am a new Exotic Dancer. So far I have only danced one night! I was a little sore at the club after each set. When I came home I found bruises on my knees. When I woke up my entire knee caps were bruised!!! I also have a pretty big bruise on my Left elbow, Left Hip and Lower Back! Is this normal? Will it ever stop? How can I cover it up? I usually don't even bruise at all!!!! I mean I really did dance hard, work the whole stage, and the floor. Everyone was impressed and thought I was a "long-time career dancer". But it was my first time dancing EVER. I love the job but was wondering if there if there is anyway not to look BEAT-UP! I am performing again tomorrow night.......

Try dermablend. It's a heavy make-up that covers tattoos, bruises, etc...

Yes, hun it will get easier, you won't get bruised as often, and they will heal. When I first started dancing, I had them 24/7. My e and I were out one night and a cop pulled me aside and asked me if he(the ex) had been abusing me, they were that bad.

But now I'm a pole monkey damn near every day and I hardly ever get them anymore.

Also, you will wake up in the morning, feeling like you got hit by a mack truck; that's normal too. You will have muscle pain and soreness for a few days, then it will go away.

Anyway congrats on dancing, and good luck with the bruises.

Hey!! Congrats on surviving your first night of dancing!

I remember when I first started dancing, I was all bruised up, as well.

There's a pill you can take to help with the bruising...Arnica. Look for it at your local health food store.

Also, pay attention to how much you are directly on your knees. Avoid putting direct pressure directly on the knee caps when doing floor work (crawling, etc). You will keep getting bruised from that, but it will also begin to cause more pain...if it hasn't already. So, concentrate on taking direct pressure off the knee caps.

Yes!! I have been through that!! I bruise VERY easily, if I bang my leg, even if it's very lightly, I have bruise!! It's very annoying..

When I started a year ago, my knees were blue-purple-green-pink-burgundy all the time!! Now I would say they are pinkish... thank god!! I looked like a bad skateboarder! It will get better over time.

Take care of those knees, they can get very sensitive when you dance; the shoes, the crawling or aggressive floorwork can really do a number on them. A lot of dancers have water in the knee caps.

Maybe you can do a sexy skateboarder act and wear knee-protectors!! .... Just kidding!
You know the saying? ... Celeste is the best!

I remember my first few nights...I was in so much pain and so bruised and swollen...I thought I was never going to be able to make a career out of dancing. I thought my body wasn't cut out for it. But trust me, and the other girls....it DOES get better!!!! I still wake up many mornings sore and tight...but I go for a walk and do really good stretches, and I'm fine in about an hour. I also soak in a bath every night after work. When I start a shift, I take it easy on my first few stages...let myself warm up....then I'm good to go for the rest of the shift. When my knees are getting sore, or my feet, I pull out the knee high socks for a night or two. That helps with floor work because you can slide as opposed to actually crawling around on your knees. I still bruise every once in awhile, especially when I'm learning a new move. But you can't really see bruises under the stage lights anyway, so I don't bother with cover up. Good luck sweetie!! Your body will adjust, and you'll be amazed at how fast you'll start toning up!!!!!

I try to massage the bruises after work, then put ice on them. This works for me and some girls I know....but everyone is different. I would try arnica. I know some people that swear by the stuff. I remember when I first started the club I worked at had a wooden stage. Let me tell you, I bruised horribly. I prefer to dance on plexi-glass or something similar. It's much easier on the knees.

I come home home with bruises every time I work. I'm going to go ahead and reiterate what the other girls have said--arnica! I use arnica gel (topical form) directly on my bruises. I can't be a dancer without it! It really works.

Girls Thank You, so so much! Last night, before I went to work I took a bath in Epson-Salt. I also went out and bought the Arnica Gel and the strongest pills they had!!!! I already- seriously see and feel a difference! The bruises are already disappearing and I only bruised more on my spine this time! Too bad it sucked last night and was DEAD-LOL. But I do appreciate all your support and tips!
