Default What accents do customers prefer?

Trying to dilute my accent so I can appeal to a wider variety of customers. Am hanging around a lot of Hispanics to try and get a tinge of it because they sounds sexy as hell.. but then I think the spanish guys may not find it sexy at all. What do different guys like. Any ideas.

I have an Italian/British girlfriend who dances here in Oz and she told me that when she speaks to the customers with an English accent they are often quite intimidated because they think she sounds too 'posh'...so she gives herself an edge by putting on an exotic Italian accent and this works fantastically for her!!!

I was thinking along similar lines to you for when I go to London because I am not going to be TOO much different to the British girls aside from the fact I may have a better tan.. but putting on an accent or changing your own slightly can be hard to handle for long periods of time... unless of course you like the dramatic aspect and want to do a bit of roleplay! Can be fun!

Remember, if you pretend to be Spanish, some customers may have been to Spain and will ask you all sorts of questions you may not know how to answer, but I suppose you could reply with 'Estoy apesadumbrado. No entiendo'!!!

i dont know about faking accents- if you have to do that to make money- then you should look at a profession change imo. if i worked with a dancer who faked an accent...arghhh shed do my head in..is ok to lie about having partners etc, but lying about your accent is too desperate!

guy like ANY accent that exotic to THEM.

I think its alright to do it to the customers, but if you do it to the girls you work with then sure it will do their heads in!

I can do the British accent thing in a few dialects, I also do a mad Russian accent which has my friends pissing themselves laughing - 'dah, dahlink, we go for dance now 2 hours...yah yah, i come from moscow, dah..' You have to be there.

And Mermaid, I can do the Kiwi accent too but I don't want to scare the guys away!!! Ha ha...just kidding..

Natrural brit accent here! Born in Sweden.....Go figure. My mother has that harsh Swedish letter thing going on. But again, she still lives there. I came here from 3rd grade, lost alot, did i ever have it really....No my mother says.

I don't speak my native language, actually. Only a few words.

If i talk slow, i sound like i was born over here, the faster i talk the more brit i sound, so i try to keep it tame.

So water can come out wutter.....Odd.

One of my GFs is Spanish and Russian and has a very thick Spanish accent. Guys go crazy over it. I'm pretty good at hiding my southern twang when around locals, but guys NOT from the South love it when I get all "Southern Belle" on them.

Wow Amy. If that's you in your avatar, and you came up to me with that accent, you'd walk away with my wallet. I'm from South Louisiana, so I have an accent. Not a really bad one, but it's noticeable. I'm not really one for southern accents b/c I've been surrounded by them my whole life, but they work with some girls. I have a weakness for the California girl accents and the Long Island NY accents.

In Texas, sometimes I affect a mild russian accent, which they love. Outside of Tx, I play up the twang...whatever it is...different is good!

i dont really have much of a kiwi accent ( apparently?!) its actully the stupidst accent ive ever heard, i pick up accents REALLY quickly, so from australia, i lost my kiwi accent altogether, then from japan i picked up this strange english-is-my-second-language accent. being surrounded by czechs and russians and japanese affect my whole vocab lol even my syntax is a mess still. give me a few more months and ill have shanken that off tho.

Im losing a handful fo customers a night because they call me over thinking im a local and when I open my mouth and they hear a 'proper' English accent, before Ive even said anything besides "hello" they go into this "oh, so because of your accent you think your better than me?" crap and ignore me from then on.Its like-what the hell you know!

There must be 10 different accents in our club but mine seems to be the only one that gets a big proportion of guys backs up.

Im finding that the only way to get this percentage to talk to me is when they start with the accusations, if I 'street' (throw in meanngless slang and act like im from the ghetto) and act like a bimbo its ok, but its a real struggle you know?.

I know someones going to advice me to try and change the tone/pitch of the voice to sound different with teh accent Ive got but I tried it and it made no difference whatsoever so it really is the accent putting these guys off.

Of course though you dont have to fake accents with the girls you work with. Thats crazy missh20!!

I'm from Carolina, but haven't lived there or anywhere in the South in 8 or 9 years. When I go to a local club or one not in the South, it's sexy as hell to hear a southern accent.

Same thing with my girlfriend in Brisbane which is why she uses the European accent.

Do you mean that I DON'T have to fake it in London because I am Aussie?

I will just have to be careful not to get all Steve Irwin - Crocodile Hunter on them over there! 'G'Day mate, crikey's look at the size of that croc! She's a beauty!!!" No more shrimp on the barbie, that's for sure Charlygirl!

Just come back from a far reaching trip around a lot of USA states and hell, I never knew they had so many accents here! I realise now that in reality I get better treatment, service, respect from people here because I DONT have the U.S accent than if I did have it.
Ive changed my hairstyle and even though they hear my accent Spanish men treat me good now because they say I look like im Dominican. African american men treat me good because they like that im not afro american, and white guys treat me good because looking at me and with my brit accent they cant tell where im from. Im getting more attention now by confusing people. Having fun girls!!!!
ps. Who the hell invented that place called the Cheesecake Factory? Man I nearly died of an overdose in there. I must weight in at 300lb now....

It's a common mistake, charlygirl, but there is no "American" accent. I mean there's southern accents, texas accents, new england accents, etc. But regular Americans just don't have accents.

As for the one to have. Use the one you come with. One of the dancers at the club where I attend Sunday services tried a fake New Zealand accent just before she left the club and dancing altogether. Of course, since I knew what she actually sounded like, I may not have been the best judge.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

LOL! Silverback, regular Americans dont have accents???? , you've got to be kidding!!!
Admit that you yourself think eveyone in England has a British accent even though we have many cities also with many different regional accents.

Any new person to US will say if your American you have an AMERICAN accent. You pile all the regional accents into one big 'twang' just like you pile any other countries acents into the name of their home country! LOL.
Luv ya anyway girl but you made me laugh at that one.

I'm russian,so I speak with a russian accent.Customers always like it,often ask me to say something in russian.IMO if you can fake an accent, then you can have fun with it,but doing it every day to everybody can get very confusing.I think it's better just to be yourself.

Also, there's definitely an "american accent",it's the dialect that varies from different parts of the country (south, northeast etc) ,but there are certain characteristics of the language that make all of them a part of the american english.Same as British english,Canadian anglish,Australian english and other forms. This is from studying linguistics.

I have a natural slight spanish accent, but I'm half puerto rican, I just throw a little Spanish to them every now and then, and I say anything really, cause they USUALLY don't know what you said, but they love that. They think its sexy. So, if a foreign accent is what you're going for, try to learn a few sexy lines in that language to help you out.

Southern gets a good response, I have a mix of Texan-Mississippi Delta type drawl - the guys in California went bonkers over it. I even had one ask me if I was faking it! Too funny.
