NEW YORK (March 10) - With the 'Curse of the Bambino' laid to rest by World Series champs the Boston Red Sox, the owners of the infamous pieces of paper that inspired it are cashing in.
The 1920 contract selling Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the New York Yankees for $100,000 is expected to be the top draw at a Sotheby's baseball memorabilia auction in June. Experts predict the document could raise over $500,000, the auction house said on Thursday.
''The sale of Ruth to the Yankees changed the sports world forever,'' Sotheby's said in a statement, describing the five-page contract as ''the most significant document in sports history.''
I just saw this on the internews.
Does anyone else see a Boston buyer trying to buy back a dead guy??
Can a dead guy actually be traded back to the Sox??
I see this as going from "silly"to morbid rapidly.
