Default new girl brainstorming about music

I'm just getting started (and feel the inclination to throw this disclaimer up in all of my posts lol) and am currently trying to get my music all organized.

So far songs I'm really loving are Tango shoes by bif naked, Crash, hollaback girl, and Bubble pop electric from the new gwen stefani album, stripetease by hawksley workman, little bird by annie lennox (and yes, from the movie striptease), make me over by hole (i can't explain why, it's got a good feel and i like to think people won't realize it's courtney love lol), going down on it by hot action cop, every you every me by placebo, just about anything by outkast, all things aqua, carribean by rik rok, dance by jamiroquai, dragula, and I think those are pretty much the few songs on the top of my playlist currently. If anyone has any suggestions for what sets of 3 and 4 I should make, or any good songs to add to my pool of options, or anything I should not use in the club, or really any direction of any kind then feel free to post, critique and what have you.

I'm looking for a variety of music, I really love everything that I've posted it's just a matter of me getting them together into a flowing set that works and adding a little more variety i think.

Hey that's quite a collection, and I love the Gwen Stefani CD too, it's ace!

I recommend that you think of a theme and start pairing your songs together that way; e.g. "Crash" has a car theme so your outfit might be Grand Prix girl, service station attendant or whatever, so think of other car / mechanic songs to go with them (Born to be wild, Scream if you wanna go faster, Ride It, Cars, - you get the idea).

It's only a suggestion but it may be easier for you to start this way.

Have you heard the techno remix of "Little Bird", by R Fresh? It is an incredible stage song, though I have met few dancers who could pull it off--judging from the quality and variety of your selections, which demonstrate an open-minded and probably creative attitude, you would have what it takes.

You definitely have diverse taste, this will really help you in your dancing career. As far as mixing and matching your songs, you will get a feel for it. Themed sets will work well, and can help you pair songs that otherwise wouldn't work together, especially if the DJ knows how to do this.

Stripping sets can break some of the ordinary rules--it isn't always as necessary to always have a smooth transition. In fact I sometimes deliberately break that rule in order to keep things lively--you don't want three hip-hop girls followed by three rock girls, it's better to stagger them. This way everybody's happy. Similarly, if a dancer can really move when I play a slower song for her, but it's friday night, I will risk breaking the rules to do this, but then pick the pace right back up with an energetic track--it just requires the right verbal treatment to make it work.

If you like Dragula, you should check out more Rob/White Zombie, and if you like techno at all, then you should definitely check out the many excellent remixes of this stuff.

If you listen to music at home, you can experiment for yourself and see what works, too.

I have been thinking more and more of combining Outkast with some old school Gearge Clinton (Funkadelic, Parliament, etc.). They have a similar style, I think.

You should check out some of the older threads in Music Mix as well, there are so many excellent suggestions and ideas here.

TO follow up with DJoser's comments about Zombie.. one of the best songs he has to dance to is "How to make a monster" off his Music to strip by CD...and the remix of Living Dead girl that is also on that CD...

I used to dance to many of the songs you listed here.. Tango Shoes is a hard one to pull off though, but it can be done.. I mixed it with a couple other's from Bif Naked, Hawkley's Workman's Striptease is a fun song and I used it quite a bunch as well, you could also check out some of the stuff Garbage has as well, if you like Bif Naked, chances are you might also like some of the stuff Garbage has put out...

When I was dancing I had a WIDE range of everything.. I actually danced to some country as well- something that was a bit of a no no in the club I was working at, but it seemed to work for me... but for the most part, I always had something up my sleeve that was much different than what was being heard on the radio or popular.. sometimes, its just a matter of bringing something to your stage that no one has before.. creativity is a good thing in this business--- try stuff out at home, if you can move to it, and you like it, try it out in the club... If you want more suggestions.. do a search in Music Business- these DJ's here rock.. they have lots of good advice!
