    Default Just got a job

Okay, so I just got a job woking at a place in Columbus, GA. I'm not sure if I like the club. The man who hired me said I could probably make about 500 a week. I guess that's not bad. All the girls are required to wear a gstring and something covering their nipples. There are table dances, but not lap dances, and there is a good no touching policy. It seems like a clean club to work for I suppose, but I know I could make more money elsewhere. I've never danced before though, so I decided to give this place a try until I get more comfortable with the idea. I've tried to come up with stage names like lots of the girls here....Sweets, Loralie, Anna Grace, I dunno.....everything I think of just sounds dumb. I start tomorrow and I'm so scared because I don't know how to dance like the other girls or anything. I also need to find a good costume to wear. Is starting at a lesser club an okay idea for a newbie? And what are some good songs to dance to?

Yeah, $500 sounds like a total ripoff. you can make that money telemarketing or waitressing. As a stripper your minimum should be around $1000/week

Starting at a smaller club can be better for easing into stripping, but isn't always necessary.

If you've never danced before and the idea of contact makes you nervous, it's good that you'll be working in a clean club to begin with. The money does sound too low, though. Maybe his usual dancers aren't as good-looking or don't work many nights.

Don't be too nervous, your ballet experience will help you more than you know.

As far as music goes, what kind do you like? You are far better off going with music you really like, or have danced to in clubs or around the house. Just be sure the club will play it. Do you remember what kind of music they were playing when you went in to get the job? I'm betting that in Columbus they will lean towards rock or country, but I could be wrong.

Can you call up or visit tonight and find out? Give us an idea of what kind of music you like, as well, and between those two criteria we can help you. There are lots of great DJs here, as well as dancers who know their music, in Music Mix. We don't have much time, but I'm willing to bet we can hook you up with some good ideas!

Here's a post I wrote to calm down a newbie's nerves a while back, but it'll work for you as well--it's basically what I tell all dancers on their first night:

With your performance and dance experience I am willing to bet you'll really shine...

well, I like a variety of things so far as music goes. To be honest, there's not much that i don't like. I am musically inclined....play clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, piano, sing etc....so I can enjoy pretty much anything and pick up on counting rhythms and determining what type moves can work with a song. But some of the music I was thinking of was:
Kid Rock: Cowboy....I'm wearing an Auburn cowboy hat and some daisy dukes....would matching furry handcuffs be too cheesey?
    Jet: Cold Hard Bitch
Shania Twain: Man I Feel Like a Woman
    Outcast: Hey Ya
Guns n Roses: Welcome to the Jungle....this is a good song for me cause it's a comfort song...Auburn's stadium is called the jungle, and we always get pumped to the song. Would it be too much to walk out with a whip for that song?
Snoop: Drop it Like it's Hot

Are any of those okay....I need to know by tonight, and how many songs do I need?

These are great. You can't go wrong with Kid Rock or G n R in strip clubs. They are both a bit overplayed but no one ever seems to care, especially from the sounds of it, your local boys. I would have more by either of them ready to request for the DJ, and maybe a few more diverse ones if it's going well for later in the night. You'll need probably 4-5 sets of songs if it's a medium-sized club, less if it's bigger. Most clubs you'll be picking 2 songs a set. Be warned you might have to share the stage with another dancer at times, and you might wind up dancing one song to what she likes if you are following her on roatation. But from what I see of your flexibility and spirit, you'll do fine. In fact I predict you're gonna kick ass, if the club is worth a damn.

Props I have mixed feelings about--I'd say use 'em if they make you feel good about the whole thing, but don't worry too much about them. By God, the whip will get their attention, especially if you know how to use one and make it crack. The handcuffs don't sound like they would go with the costume as well, but maybe for another costume/song, it would work.

If you like that Jet song--it's a good one for stripping!--you might try Buckcherry "Lit Up", it has a similar raw edge, and it is very well known amongst stripclub DJs.

If you want more G n R, try "Paradise City", and "Sweet Child o' Mine", these are stand-by classics, slightly over exposed, but every DJ has them, and the crowds tend to love them, especially in the South.

Kid Rock, you have all kinds of material to choose from, "American Badass", "Cocky", "Forever", pretty much the same goes for these as the above G n R.

For some somewhat more unusual Kid Rock, try "Bowitdaba", "Devil without a Cause", "Welcome to the Party", "Wasting Time", "Got one for Ya" (Summer always kicked ass to that one), and last but not least, my favorite kid rock song that no one ever plays but me, lol--"Ya Keep On".

I envy the DJ who gets to work with you, with your ballet experience you should be quite a sight! I am hammering home this point with you repeatedly because every single dancer I have ever seen with anywhere near this kind of ballet background was outstanding, and a real pleasure to bring onstage.

The music I think will work well, I know there is going to be much better stuff for you down the road, buit we don't know what's permissible in the club, and we want to make sure it goes well the first night.

if it does go well, you should think about Atlanta, there will be much more money, and much more freedom to play what you want--depending on how strict the individual clubs are.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!!

Yes, he is serious. I usually made that much in a single night on an average weekend ($500, that is).

After reading that, I cannot resist.

Luckytiger, this really belongs in Music Mix.

But since you asked about music earlier in this thread, and since Susan Wayward and Lexi are very cool and might let me slide, I'm going to suggest a song for you that exemplifies just what you are talking about. Not to mention it has a killer bass line and excellent vocals. As far as I am concerned, it is the penultimate stripping song, but only for those who merit it, which you quite obviously do...

It's called "The Power is Mine", and it's by The Lords of Acid--but forget the stupid songs they keep playing over and over by them---this one is different, more rock-oriented and with way more style. It is highly unlikely that anyone else at your club will have danced to it, as I have never heard it played elsewhere, but that can be a very good thing for you.

Enough said, give it a listen.
