Freedom Force Vs The third Reich has just hit the shelves. It's a roleplaying game where you get to be a silver age (Spiderman, the Hulk) Superhero traveling back in time to the golden age (Batman, Captain America, Superman).
Thing is that this game is, like it's predecessor () appeals a lot to us comic book types. It's an incredibly modular game, allowing for people to 'skin' Superman and Batman and let module creators create their own adventures for copyrighted characters. This ius called, if you can create it, a 'mod.'
Well, i have a mod deep in the works.
The only trouble is this, one character is public domain and one is owned by a company called Conde Nast.
The Villian is naed Dracula, looking for a new hunting ground, fresh after fooling Van Helsing and his English vampire hunters into thinking he's dead. He lays in the dirt for a few decades and then goes to NEW YORK in 1938. There he runs into someone who knows what evil lurks withion the hearts of men. The Shadow. And it's a showdown hardcore.
It's not making a video game, it's making a MOD for a video game. The question i have it how to do this without hurting myself via the law. I intend to make no money from this. I just want to do it because i dig Dracula as a villan and dig the Shadow as a hero and think it is a DRAG what use has been made out of both characters. If anyone knew what a man Vlad Tepes was as a ruler they would never make him sympathetic. Vlad Tepes (Pronounced Sep-esh, in Romanian) was as 'bad guy' as 'bad guys' get. And the Shadow... The movie... That's all i need say.
So if i did it as FAN fiction, and charge nothing for it, will i have some protection from lawyers? Keep in mind all i want to do is tell a great story. People telling me a did good would be all the reward i need.
