Default I think I made this girl mad.....

The other night at work, I was sitting with a customer for a while, probably 45 minutes to an hour. He had said he was gonna get a dance from me, and then I had to go up on stage, so I went up for 4 songs, and while I was up there, apparently another dancer started talking to him. That's fine, but when I got off stage, I went over and asked about that dance, and I think the other girl got mad about that.... I don't see why, I was sitting with him before for longer than she was. He said no, haha, but that's besides the point. Should I have not done that?? What do you guys think?

All the customers in a strip club are fair game to all the dancers, but if there is a girl sitting with someone already, there is an unspoken ettiquette that other dancers leave that customer alone.

Hey, you were talking to him before hand, its not your fault. But I think you could have handled the situation differently..perhaps you could have said, "excuse me" before you interrupted (if you didnt of course) and then just leaned down and whispered in his ear.

Sorry but 1st off why were you sitting with him for about 45min? Was he buying you drinks or was he giving you some sort of compensation for your time? If you answered NO to the last 2 Q's then I can see why the other girl might be a bit pissy.
She might have been mad because she thought that she could be hustling the guy for a dance or drink when you were taking up all his time and no dances.
Thats good that you asked though. I have one more Q for ya?: Was she sitting with the guy when you asked him for a dance? If so, and he was by himself then thats so not cool. If she was not next to him you had every right to ask him.

He was buying me drinks, and he was tipping me 20s on stage... the same girl had actually come over and interrupted and started talking to us (well, mainly him) before, then when I went on stage, she came back and started talking to him again.

When I came back after my stage set, I didn't rudely interrupt. I just sat down where I was sitting before next to him at the bar, and he looked over and said "hey whats up"... and we all were kinda talking, then I asked.

I can see why she was mad, but also, I think I had the right to ask since he told me he wanted a dance from me, and I was there before her. I don't know, I just dont want the girl to not like me, because I try to be nice to everyone and not start shit.

I had a similar situation last week, except I had already danced for the guy once and he had expressed interest in getting more. After my stage another girl was sitting with him. I wasn't sure what to do, so I asked a more experienced dancer that I'm cool with. I thought it would be ok to go over since I had already established a rapport w/ that customer, but the older dancer got kinda crazy with me for even asking! She let me know in no uncertain terms that a girl + a customer = off-limits no matter what! She pointed out that for all I knew, he had asked her to sit w/ him or whatever, and I needed to wait until she left or he called me over. The only exception to this rule would be if he had bought me a drink AND MY DRINK WAS STILL UNFINISHED ON HIS TABLE W/ A COASTER ON TOP. That would've been a signal that he was 'taken.' So anyway, that's how it is in my club. It's not that big a deal tho . . . next time you work w/ her if she's weird to you, just explain that in that particular situation you weren't sure what to do, you didn't mean anything personal. ~Petals

He was tipping you $20's on stage? Seems like a strong enough signal to me. Was he tipping everyone $20's on stage?

Me personally, as a customer I would have tried to do a better job of avoiding that awkward situation. Especially if I wanted your company over the other dancer.

Yeah, it is a grey area on approaching when she was sitting next to him. In a way think your right, and in a way I think you should have waited for her to clear out.

Maybe you could have just politely asked if he would like you to come back later. That way he couldn't feel like you just blew him off, and/or he could have shown the other dancer who he wanted to keep him company.

Thats a tricky situation. At my club if a girl is really talking to a customer we will skip him so to speak. But to me it sounds like you did nothing wrong!

    .
you used proper ettiquette if you described what happened accurately. more than most would have in that situation.

i, on the other hand, do not see why she was mad. she knew you were working him too. the nicest thing you could have done is ask him if he wanted to "play" with both of you.
if he would have said "no" then you ask well we could go one at a time.
that way he leaves with you and makes the decision about her when he gets back.
whoever asks first, wins. she needs to learn that!

as long as you didn't interrupt, you're doing fine. If a customer starts talking to you, it's all good, that's his perogative. But the way you described it the first time - you sat with him for 45 minutes without dancing and then went back and interrupted him with another girl - that's not right at all.

What you did was NOT out of line. You were with him first! Did she not see you with him? If she did, she was the one who was out of line.

You were with him first and you had every right to ask if he was ready for his dance. He was tipping you 20's and buying you drinks, you were hustling him and she had no right trying to move in while you were gone. Just my opinion.

You were right totally! It doesn't matter if that girl was sitting there, you were there first. Obviously he liked you, since he tipped you $20's. Don't worry about it, it's no big deal.

I agree that you did nothing wrong. I also wanted to say that the "whispering in a customers ear" started some controversy in my club between a few girls. It is considered forbidden. The girls all had different stories on what the customer told them the other girl whispered. Sometimes the whisper method can get catty between dancers and tricky with customers if they seem to enjoy the cat fights. ONe time a girl interuppted and whispered "lets get dances" or something supposedly in the guys ear. Something similar happened again as well. Anyway, the customer said no to your dance offer did you say? He sure sent some mixed signals with the 20's?

i think he said no because he felt torn between the two of you.
perhaps he had later promised her dances. if he said no, i have no idea why she would be angry.

Thanks for clarifying...then by all means you had all the right to be there and ask him for a dance. Sometimes if you leave your drink there covered or something then thats a signal that another girls isnt suppose to come over.
Thanks awesome that he was tippping you 20's on stage and the drinks too. That is kinda odd of him to tip well and then when prompted for a dance he turns it down...silly guy. I agree with the other poster above that maybe he did feel torn and didnt really want to turn down both of you.

Eeeeehhh, if things happened as you describe, basically she smelled a high paying customer and was waiting for you to leave to get him to herself. You were expected to come back, and in that case, I don't think it was wrong of you to hop right back in.

Otherwise, I'd say just because you were 'there first' isn't an excuse to interrupt and ask for dances. If he's invited another dancer to sit with him, you're out, in my opinion. I don't go back and haven't had problems with others doing the same, except one "I'm not going to follow anyone else's rules!" dancer.

I wouldn't worry about making other dancers unhappy, really, is inevitable. Don't go out of your way to make it happen, but agonize over it, either.

One of my worst pet peeves is girls who go to a customer another girl has been sitting with the minute she goes on stage! If I've already been sitting there before my set and he was interested in dances, I would definetly go back.
