    Default SCJ March Madness Contest

Well, the SB contest was fun so I thought we' try this.

Here is a link to the complete tournament bracket.

    http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegebas...s/viewable_men

Rules: Pick the pairing (and winner) of each regional final. Then based on your predictions, fill out your final four.

For each of your eight picks, scoring will be as follows.

Wins first round game: 1 point
Wins second round game: 2 points
Wins third round game: 3 points

the play-in game to see who gets to play North Carolina doesn't count.

Predicted regional winner makes final four: 5 points
Predicted finalist makes championship game: 7 points
Predicted national champion wins it all: 10 points
Each regional final matchup correct (even if wrong team wins): 2 points

    Possible total of 100.

Tiebreaker (if neccesary) combined score of both teams in national championship game.

Remember when picking each regional final matchup you need one team from each side of the bracket (for example, Illinois vs. Boston College won't work).

Picks must be in by the start of the first game on Thursday.

Same prize as the Blue Devils get: the thrill of being #1.

Doc, did you go to Wake Forest? I mean you have some serious leaps of faith in your predictions.

I'm not ready to predict yet. I need to read the injury reports. Like if JJ sprains his wrist, forget Duke.

Haven't been anywhere near there, but my magic 8-ball and ouija board both said so.

Anytime I've been in one of these fill out the bracket pools, there's always somebody who claims they don't know lick about basketball who ends up winning the damned thing, so I figured what the hell.

That and I think Dick Vitale picked UNC on the post-selection special, and I can't bear to pick the same team as him.

Chicago Regional: Boston College over Oklahoma State
Alberquerque Regional: West Virginia over Washington
Syracuse Regional: Connecticut over North Carolina
    Austin Regional: Syracuse over Kentucky

Left Side Bracket Semifinal: West Virginia over Boston College
Right Side Bracket Semifinal: Connecticut over Syracuse
Championship: Connecticut over West Virginia (148 points)

The scary part is that you know it could happen that way with the 7,4,2,4 seedings in the regionals, and the way these teams have matched up against each other during the Big East season.

    Notre Dame wins the NIT
    Connecticut wins the women's NCAA

Note to RH: You still have time to add a point total in the championship game.

Ooops, scratch Notre Dame from the NIT. Holy Cross beat them in the opening round. Bob Cousy's alma mater.

Tia_q, where are you? You can win it all by betting your heart. I'll be watching Syracuse vs Vermont wearing my UVM ringer tee shirt.

Doc, I think some people may have trouble understanding the brackets.

Well my brackets haven't been busted...yet. Two SEC schools getting bounced from the tourney in the first round...ouch! I wonder if Shaq cared that his alma matter is gone already?

Hey, I lost a Final Four pick, but I LOVE watching Vermont win. Their point guard's dad is the best HS coach in RI.

Jon leads with 8 of a possible 8 points, while everyone else has 7 of 8 because Syracuse and Kansas went down. Sports Illustrated is 6 of 8, but SI is dumber than a dog betting horses.

Duke and Kentucky are coming to Austin!!! Woo hoo! I just received my tickets to the Austin regionals yesterday, and I can't wait to see these guys as well as Michigan State and Utah. Hopefully Duke and Kentucky both make it beyond Friday and meet each other for the Regional Championship next Sunday...then the following week I'm off to St. Louis for the Final Four. Yeah, baby! I love the month of March!

If you want to be part of March Madness for no money, check the website of the nearest center where the games are played. They may have open sessions where you can see the teams practice for free.

Then go watch the actual games in a neighborhood bar type of strip club. Tell the dancers you've seen the teams live before, and you'd rather be with your peeps here.

I might withdraw near the end and give my points to money.

Katrine and Cali (and Shayden if we need the three girl battle royale) can be our jello girls. Then again maybe we could just decide it with a heads up Texas Hold'em showdown.

To all who participated, thanks for playing. See you in '06.

Thoughts on the NCAA Basketball Tournament

If Thorn had played this pool, would he be out now?
How could West Virginia have lost to Louisville?
Kentucky basketball is upside down now. I feel bad for Tubby Smith.
Vermont had the best looking team with the fewest tattoos.
Coach K always always sounds like he's whining. Deviated septum?
Why do Nationwide commercials make fun of blacks?
    Greg Gumbel is hopelessly fat.

We all won Cali's pics just for playing.

A catamount is an eastern mountain lion, also known as a cougar or puma, depending on the state. Adults weigh 120-150 pounds and are still seen in the Green and Berkshire mountain ranges in VT and MA.

March Madness is the best marketing package in sports.
Jimmy Valvano was way more fun than Dick Vitale.

Gonzaga was an intelligent pick considering they had double-digit wins over Washington and Georgia Tech and never trailed at Oklahoma State.
Illinois lost to ineligible Ohio State (23-12).
North Carolina had a double-digit loss to Santa Clara (17-16).

A Cinderella team has to be dangerous from the three-point arc.
Funny website on KY basketball, 2004:

Note the cover of Rick Pitino's book on that website. Providence Journal sportswriter Bill Reynolds was the inspiration for Sportswriter2 when we were multiple guys who needed one writing style for posting on TUSCL.

Edit: UConn is dead; UNC is king.

As usual the Big XII tanked again. People around here really had their hopes of seeing KU get at least to the Elite 8.

What I find ironic is that Roy Williams, the previous Kansas coach, now coaches at North Carolina. Bill Self, the current Kansas coach, left Illinois to come here. So despite getting knocked out by Bucknell in the first round, the old coach's new team, and the new coach's old team are likely to meet in the championship game. Very strange.

And no, I have no idea what a Catamount is, but every school should have a unique kick ass nickname like that.

Betting on the NBA is betting on who's doing cocaine when.

    Phoenix over Orlando (199)

Or the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Ironically, this campus is dotted with posters about what to do if you encounter a mountain lion while walking back to your dorm.

Congratulations to Richard Head. None of us picked UNC to win, but Dick Vitale did.

Duke, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and UC Santa Clara beat UNC this year, so some of the losing picks here made a lot of sense.
