It's all about safety, being somewhat anonymous, and creating this other "fantasy" persona.

Which kind of safety? When your daddy comes in a stripclub where you work you going to tell that you are not his daughter??? of course i know when you would see your daddy you will run out the club to hide (atleast i would) but if your name is example naomi so what??? there are thousends of naomi's

About fantasy persona.....why? don't they have enough confidence with the real name?

It is about safety, first and foremost. I wouldnt tell some guy that comes into a stripclub what my real name is, I dont care. Example: A guy who works for your father comes in, thinks he recognize you as the bosses daughter. You give him a fake name, he will just think that its a coincidence, and its someone that just looks like her. Then when he goes in and says, Hey, what's your daughters name again? Oh its so and so. See my point? Besides, would you really want every man that comes into the club to know your real name, then sees you out on the streets, and KNOWS you by your first name? Cmon now.

I like fake stage names its fun. Turning into a whole new person that you're not when you are your regular self. Its like a fantasy for me too since i work in an office all day, its fun when i get to dance and be someone else and let loose. Cause I love to dance.

    Ok...ok...take it easy (RetiredDancer).

While some feel that having a "fake" name for dancing is for safety (I really don't feel any "safer" with a stage name) I like the stage name because it helps me get out of my "real" life and into my "stripper" life.

Also, them not knowing my "real" name has never stopped any of them from calling me by my "stage" name in public. If they know you, they know you...they don't need your real name in order to stalk you.

No, not safety as in hiding my dancing..my family and friends know what I do. True that they may know you by face, but I still don't want everyone knowing my real name. For example if they know you by face only and your stage name...then only when they actually see you will you be recognized. I hardly ever run into any customers outside the club. If they know your real name then comes the "Oh man I was down at Club Y and so and so was dancing, etc. " convos. And then comes the drama with being a dancer...lol

    Naomi:

I use a fake stage name for the following reasons:

    1) Safety: My real name is unique - particularly where I live - and it would be quite easy to find my full name and address. Therefore, it would not be SAFE for me to run around telling people my real name.

    2) Anonymity: I don't plan on being a career dancer and have plans outside of stripping. So again, I would rather people not know my real name. I've also been able to fool people into thinking I'm someone else even though we may have gone to school together.

My parents know I dance, and love me regardless (although they think I'm a bit of a nut for doing it) but since they are big names in their church and other organizations, I would rather people NOT know I'm THEIR daughter.

    3) Fantasy: My stage name goes with my stripper persona. 'Nuff said.

Finally, I have a fake real name because inevitably some asshole who just gave me $2 on stage wants to know what my real name is, so I give them a name that sounds real but is not my real name.

    Does that answer your question?

Edited to add: If someone called me by my stripper name outside the club, I would do as I have done when it happened to me once while with my mom & niece: blank look (a la ) and then look at them like they're crazy. Worked like a charm.

I am really surprised to see a dancer ask this question . . . All kinds of people use a separate name professionally, including actors (screen names) and writers (pen names). It allows you to preserve some of your privacy and to perhaps pick a more glamorous name. Who wants a lapdance from Gertrude?

You can be anyone you want to be!!! That's my reason
I was first Gypsy --- super bitch, but LOVED to dance
    Iris -- shy and adoring
    Cindy -- sweat and innocent
    Allora -- outgoing and smart
Brooke -- giggly, but good for a convo
Heather -- classy, loves to talk about nothing and everything, friendly
If dancing all fantasy, why shouldn't our names play into it. I don't dress or wear the same type of make-up like I do at the club because I am different outside it. It's cool to pick a new name and personality whenever I change clubs or at least states.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

A lot of crime(i.e.stalkers,etc.) happens stateside, that is why dancers here do not use their real identity. It's common sense.

Agreed. Even in radio. I had a fake name when I was on the air for the longest time.

i work in another country and every body knows my real name "naomi" even my last name "santos" and when i am on the street there are many people who say "hi naomi" so what? i like that!

if i had a fake name i would be confused all the time and maybe not even look around when they shout call my with my fake name...

don't you have that problem? ok if i shout work in my own country (what i never will) of course maybe i will choose another name. But i shout be alway's afraid anyway and i think it is not comftable to work like that.

This is what i call a good explination you've got a reason but many dancers out there don't!
Look..., it is not a problem for me, i like all the fake name you have qiuet nice ones but... some dancers example: in our club they have names that i really think oh my gosh why to call yourself mercedes if you drive in a volvo?
or diamond if you don't even shine on stage (if you understand what i mean)
or whiskey because she is drinking whiskey???

ha ha you are very cleffer i was waiting for this final i can answer to my own question oh i love this little devil you are '''grinsss'''

ok why changing my name if i would work in my own country.

at first...because nobody and really i mean nobody knows that i am a erotic dancer!
with nobody i mean everybody i know from my country.
I am 5 years in Greece my boyfriend owns the stripclub where i work... everybody in my country thinks he has a disco bar because thats what i told them. my little sister was here for holiday's and we went to a disco of a friend we told her that it was the disco of my boyfriend she believes it and she tell it around so i do not to worry anymore about that.
I can't tell them i tryed many times but i am afraid... my family is really old fashion and in Holland the most clubs have prostitutes so they will think i do more then only dancing... anyway even if they believe me maybe they wouldn't have a problem with dancing on stage but oh my gosh defaintly with labdances....no, that is really a taboe!

at second... i have some celebrities in my family so when i would work in my own country and the ....oh i forgot the name in english...
someone who works for the newspaper journalist? no that's not the one i mean...anyway ok let's say journalist
if they would know that the cousin of ... works as stripper they would have a nice story to tell and then i would embarassed my oncle, aunt and cousin ... even if they love me... they would be in shock.

Even now i am afraid sometimes when i write here on strippersweb....
but who knows its me, like i said there are so many naomi's
    and even naomi santos'es
and if ....then it have just to be like that... god knows

Well for starters you can't have more than one girl with the same name and some men need the added fantasy I suppose . Personnaly I like being able to chose my own name I had always wanted to change my name when I was a litttle girl . You guys should lay off the "whats your real name " question can't you let us have a little fatasy of our own !?? Who cares xoxo
