    Body Fat Q?

i'm wondering what everyone recommends as a way for someone to decrease their body fat ?

I'm at a good weight. If I loose any more I won't feel too good about myself and might even be under-weight therefore the weight is not the issue.

I strive to walk 10,000 steps min. each week (I have a pedometre which "keeps track" for me). I look to being active instead of actual exercise. As for actual exercise, I strive to do pilates 2-3 times a week for 20 minutes.

My food/diet can be found in this thread (page 2 most likely).

Weight lifting... you need to increase your lean muscle mass which will in turn decrease your body fat.

Protein... you should be eating your weight (in pounds) of protein each day minimum. So get into the fresh fish, up your chicken intake to once a week (if you are comfortable with that.) Whey Isolate powder or protein powder are also a good idea to add into your diet. Just be careful for brands with all the 'added extras.' I like to add a scoop of it into my soaked oats with some cinnamon. It is also good to add into fruit smoothies etc

I would say drop the pasta and stick with the brown rice and other grains like quinoa, millet, buckwheat, oats etc

Drop the ginger ale if you can too... or at least save it for the weekends.

    More fresh veggies!

Flaxseed oil = more omega 3s

Diet is 80% of the equation.

The biggest thing that made a difference in my body composition (aside from lifting) was making sure I eat 5-6 times a day. I used to eat twice a day, then 4 times a day, but eating 5 times a day made a HUGE difference.

You know where to find me if you need anything more specific

Hehe Yeah thats it... your weight in lbs = grams of protein you should aim for (min) each day (eg for me I aim for 110grms min but like to get 140grms cos I train quite hard)

If you are training a few times a week (which I know you are not) you should strive for more. Up to 1.2-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight.

We would all be eating out of troughs like horses if we had to eat that many pounds of food, thanks for pointing that out hardkandee! I wonder how horses would look in stilletos?

What type of added extras to you refer too?
Would they be sugars and things alike?

    ^LOL...

Even with weight lifting...it won't work well if you are not watching your diet. You need to cut out as much TransFat, hydrogenated oils, sugars, fats, etc as possible.

A McD's splurge every once in a great while won't hurt you...but if you are eating prepared foods more often than not (even if you think they are healthy) you are more than likely eating too much of something.

Moderation and balance is the key...with everything.

Krys pretty much summed it up and said everything that you need to do, but to decrease your body fat I would also do 30-45 minutes of cardio at least five times a week

Pretty much. Sugars, sweeteners, flavours, additives, extra fats like VG mentioned. A good rule of thumb when buying any packaged food:
'If you don't understand an ingredient, or if you wouldn't use it at home in your own kitchen, its best to avoid it'.

It is also good to keep in mind that the ingredients are listed in terms of weight, so if sugar is the first ingredient.. that is the main ingredient in the product.

When I need to buy a packaged/processed food I always make sure I understand every ingredient on the list and I always go for the ones with the least amount of things in them. K.I.S.S like they say

    In regard to the trans-fats:
Food manufacturers have until January 1, 2006 to list trans fat on the nutrition label.

good way to get protein in your diet is Naturade's Veg Protein Booster natural flavor. Add it to sauces, soups, stews, casseroles, cereals, pancakes, muffins, eggs, drinks, and smoothies. Serving size:1/3 cup Calories:110 Total fat:1.5g Total Carbs: Og Protein:24g.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Be aware that they are allowed to place "0 Trans Fat" on their packages as long as there is less than .45% trans fat in the product.

Alrighty.... looks like I'm in for a change in my diet yet again.

I thought I had a decent enough diet as it is.. lol!

I'm at a really good weight and this is the one thing that is holding me back from having the type of body I really desire.... a lean one.

As for the chicken... sorry.. can't eat it more than whenever I crave it.

My main problem is that I am not a cook. I like simple easy to prepare and gather ingrediants type of meals to cook.

    As for prepared meals I've found that the Lite N Easy meals are in tune with your KISS philosophy -- they are wonderful just that it isn't inexpensive to purchase them. {Note: Lite N Easy only deliver Brisbane/Gold Coast. NuShape is best to be used for most other areas.}
