Default the pole is kicking my ass

Well my boyfriend installed an awesome removable pole for me that he put together at home depot for $32.00...and after an hour of practicing some moves from Fawnias polework video my entire body is absolutly KILLING me. I can only do the basic fireman spin and the similar back leg hook swing and thats it. I do work out every day and weight train so Im not out of shape, but boy that pole brings out muscles that never get worked like that! I totally respect all you women out there that can climb up that thing (I cant even hoist myself up more than one time) and do all those pole tricks. I dont think I will even have the ability to accomplish the pole.

Pffft, of course you'll be able to do it eventually. I am soooo envious of your new pole! I'm going to get my bf to install one to once I move in with him. I don't know if the vid you have explained the technique of climbing the pole correctly but make sure you have bare legs when you climb. Your bare skin acts as a grip, also you have to sort of coil one leg around it for leverage. It's not just using your entire upper body it is also using your lower body to push yourself up. Hope this helps a little.

Hehe, I've been dancing for 2 months and I must say it is very hard! I've been practising all the moves I know and it takes like 2 weeks to learn anything new. I figure in 2 years I will be able to do what I want to do on the pole!!

when I try to climb up I do use my lower half but the pole rubbing my legs hurts so bad I got bruises. And I tried to do that upside down spin move and the pole kept crashing into the side of my ribcage, I could get upside down but couldnt spin around and OUCH MY RIBS, the pole was supposed to be in my hip area but I cant get it to go there its always too far up.

the diameter is about 2 1/4 inches or so, maybe 2 1/2. I dont know what kind it is its a black shiny coated pole, looks almost like its high gloss painted.

How did your boyfriend make your removable pole? I've been thinking about trying to put one in but I don't own my home so whatever I do can't be permanent or leave any really obvious marks.

even though you might work out... polework is kind of like reteaching your muscles to work in a way they have not worked before... especially shoulder, rotator cuff, etc.. Take it easy maybe a hour or hour a half a day tops. Listen to your body don't hurt yourself. Always stretch beforehand.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Practice practice practice!!! And you ass will firm up tight as ever as well as every other muscle you didn't know you had!!!

Everyone thinks that it is so easy getting up there and doing a few go rounds on the pole, even without doing anything fancy.. but it is a work out... combine it with the heels and wa-la... there you have it...

When I was learning the pole, it took me nine months to finally learn what I wanted to do.. but once you learn always remember to keep focused or you will hurt yourself... I fell and as a result can no longer do a lot of complicated pole work.. nasty bursitus in my shoulder.

I suppose I just had a knack for it or something. hmmm. Actually one of the reasons I began dancing was because I could just randomly do good tricks on a pole that belonged to a friend of mine. I found it mezmerizingly fun. Just as you said, my body hurt so bad all over, and I had the weird little "spider" bruises on my thighs. But that went away after about a solid 2 weeks of pole trick and hour or so a day. Persistence is key, your body WILL acclimate to the workout, and it'll all be very worth it.

On another note, I'm building a STRIP CLUB at my house.

It all started with a lil miynx pole, then when I moved I rented a two bedroom place so I'd have a nice open area to workout in. Then I laid down a hardwood stage to cover the middle of the room and centered the pole to it. A lot of psychodelic lighting, some LoveSac beanbag chairs, a hookah, and minibar later; I found it'd turned into a mini-club.

    C'mon over gals!! LOLOL

he bought a 7 1/2 ft pole, 2 round plates with a hole in the middle of each and 8 screws. The pole screws into the center of one of the plates (the one on the floor) and the other end just slides into the center of the one on the ceiling. He then screwed 4 screws into each plate and voila! He got all the materials at home depot for 32 bucks. When Im done, I just unscrew the bottom, lift it up and out and all thats showing is the 2 plates that are about the size of a pancake. I rent, so when I move I can just fill in the 4 small holes on the ceiling ,and as far as the carpet, with a stiff wire brush, the holes fill in on the carpet after a few brushes (its like office type carpet small pile). Easy and cheap!

O just bought a pair of thigh-high boots from Snaz 75. here they are: http://www.snaz75.com//pl-electra-3050.html They really help me grip the pole and protect from bruises a tliile bit, too. I bought these ones specifically because I have heard of girls having knee pads sewn ihto them. I got all the yay to the top of the pole for the first time wearing them. I have also heard leather gloves help your grip. Now I need some costumes that work with leather gloves!

I love doing sexy pole work! I cant wait to start doing it again.
Its going to take some months of practice before you can get the moves just right. I know how bad it hurts when youre 1st starting. My arms were super toned in a matter of a month.

The above is great advice. Practice and you will be fantastic. And, after a while you may find that you don't get bruises anymore. My girlfriend doesn't bruise, only when she is learning a new trick. I on the other hand, bruise regardless.

Love to hear an update in a month or so!

I bruise myself all the time on doorknobs and walking into pieces of furniture so I have a feeling a pole would totally bruise me up. I don't care though I so want one! I think it would be a great way for me to get some really good excercise at home if I can just find a place to put it and get it installed.

It might be harder for you too since your pole sounds a bit wider than normal..most poles go up to 2 inches, some a little smaller, but the bigger you get the harder it will be to learn pole tricks. Take your time.

When I was new to dancing I would learn a new pole trick like every two weeks, because basically, you get sore everytime you learn a new one. I would concentrate on perfecting that specific trick, and then when the soreness went away, I would learn another one. I tell you, the one where you throw yourself upside down and put your legs out (I think it's called a helicopter in the s factor) just about killed me. All the muscles in my right side were sore for weeks, I thought I would never be able to do a pole trick again!!
