    Default skin LIGHTener

My skin is somewhat darker than most black women's (Nigerian/Egyptian blend...however my skin is characteristicly that of a West African).

Frankly I don't think it is very attractive. (Before you say that the media has shaped my views of what a black woman should look like, ie.light skinned, I'll tell you right now that this is definitely based on my own beliefs and what I think suits my features best.)

My facial complexion is a marginally alright shade, but my body is uneven and very dull and dark in some places. The only reason my avatar looks as light as it does is because of the flash of the camera.

I'm not looking to be convinced that "I'm beautiful just the way I am"...lol...I would just like to know if there is some sort of treatment I could use that would lighten my skin all over, not just a spot treatment. Some sort of pill maybe?

I think you look great. I also respect your wishes, since I "lighten" my hair and face when I work in areas where the locals prefer fair features.
I tried J/A/S/O/N "C-Light Skin Tone Balancer" for my face but it's a natural-type product, and the bottle says you need six weeks to see an effect.
I would suggest body make-up cream. Any chemical that would cause noticable all-over-body lightening sounds too dangerous.

I say if it's what you want and it'll make you happy, do it.

I lighten my skin. I just dig the pale look, and I have a birthmark on my forehead (my aunt says that it's a trait on her side of the family... African).

I alternate. I use a mud mask on my entire body made of Fuller's Earth and either water or milk. I also wipe my entire body down with a half/half mix of lemon juice and peroxide. I also make a mixture of lemons, milk, and yougurt as a body cream that I let dry then wash off.

I also use this (from this site, BTW) as my only lotion. Every day. Its more gentle in the lightening... subtle.

I'm speaking as a mixed girl, so what I do (save the lotion) might not be as effective for you. But it cant hurt to try. Good luck!

I think your skin color is great, but I do understand your concern. Sorry to say, but the media is the reason I want my breast bigger. Funny that back in the 70's and 80's it was great to have a nice pair of tits even though they were small...it was like whatever. But now...I can't get the attention that i'm seeking with the small breast that I have. You're reason for wanting light skin is different from me wanting bigger breast, but you have to tell the truth...society will pay more attention to a light complextion on a black female then a dark one...I go through it all the time.

I used Ambi skin cream with 2% hydroquinone, it takes a few weeks to see results. It's been my experience that lighter skin gets noticed quicker, but men also like the exotic look.
I think there are certain lasers now that can lighten skin. I remember there was a doctor that offered it here in the UK. Also look at Michael Jackson and Lil Kim - they must have done something stronger than a cream. BTW the cream made me 1-2 shades lighter, but definately evened out my tone, which can be a problem for darker skin. I do think it depends what area you are working in. In some places where I have worked my dark skin is definately worked to my advantage. Anyway you are very attractive with good bone structure.

Be careful, alot of women have been left with permenently damaged "piebald" skin from using skin lightening products, my advice would be to try the natural things first or thouroughly check out a product before using it because correcting a disasterous result will be near impossible. Some things may be ok to use on small areas but not large ones!
I don't want to argue with you but quite frankly if you had only ever been surrounded by people with dark skin, this wouldn't be an issue and you would see yourself as beautiful - which you are!!! I know things are easier for those of us with lighter skin and know where you're coming from in that respect, but dark skin is not unattractive!

There is a prescribed cream, monobenzone, for skin lightening for those suffering from vitiligo that dermatologist use to lighten the dark parts of the skin. These are creams that will change the skin's apperance forever. It is of course only used under a physicians care.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Exfoliating may help even the skin tone on your body. Glycolic peels may help even the skin tone on your face. However, I definitely agree with AussiePunkShocker, sometimes the results of lightening can get blotchy, so please be careful. Maybe ask a dermatologist?

Btw, you are absolutely beautiful...dark, light, or green, you'd still look great!

I have a couple of Ghanain and Bangladeshi friends who bleach their skins but they buy the potent (more than 2% hydroquinone) cream that is supposed to be banned, but who some African and Asian shopkeepers keep behind the counterto sell to those who want it .
They told me that the higher the hydrquinone the better it works but they all have these really light faces (theyre supposed to be your complexion) and havent bleaches their bodies too so the effect is like they have someone elses head on and really obvious.

These stronger creams are imported from Africa or Asia.
There are other more natural alternatives like licorice root and some other acid thats supposed to work as good as hydrquimome but I dont know their names, sorry cant give you much info on this because I havent tried any you would have to research on the internet. But I do know they worked on my freinds.
Girl if you want to dye your skin go ahead. Its your body and you can do what you want with it.
If theyd invent a product that would permanently mean I could stop using Avon intensive body lotion for my dry crusty skin Id go all out and buy that too!

Very true, and it's great! I Have a birthmark on my ass cheek, and it used to bother me at times (recently, new bf) so i asked my derm. she mentioned this product, wrote a script, and it works! But you have to keep using any lightening cream/lotion she said, or you're skin goes back to the way it was.

I would not dare use it on my face as i am far too light skinned, but that birthmark has faded to nothing if i keep using this stuff.

You can get 4% hydroquinone with a prescription. Sometimes when I get a pimple it leaves a scar and this stuff fades it in 2-3 days. I've also used to to lighten up an old burn mark that I use to cover with makeup but now you can't see it under club lights.

Wow, 2-3 days? Are you sure that it isn't just your skin replenshing itself? Most of my acne scars, if I get any, usually fade away on their own. I had a REALLY bad one on the hump of my nose--had to use tweezers and a needle to remove it. The scar went away in a matter of days.

I have been able to acquire 10% hydroquinone from a plastic surgeon. I have been using it on my bashed-up knees for a couple of months. I don't notice a diffy, though.

I wouldn't need to use it if they went away by themselves.

Ladies - Hydraquinone can be very effective but please remember the reason that it is banned in many places : a high risk of liver toxicity. Please use with caution!

do you think a dermatologist would prescribe me monobenzone just because i want extremely pale skin? or would it be frowned upon for me to even ask?

a plastic surgeon whose speciality is dermatology might be a better than a m.d. that is just a dermatologist, by seeing that plastic surgeons deal with more cosmetic needs i.e. you want super pale skin than regular dermatologist, whose practice is based upon generally dealing with insurance, common skin issues.

Maybe Lil Kims using that permanent lightening cream.
Anyway, babygirl, light skin wont change who you are on the inside. If your wonderful people will see that.

I'm not trying to change who I am on the inside, I just want to even out and lighten my skin color.

And people can see my wonderful inside all they want, but like I've read, looks are an important part of the business as well.

Yes, this business is looks-oriented. No, lightening your skin will not make you more money. But your sales skills will. At least two of the highest earners at my club are your complexion. But if you must, I found a website that is probably bad news but I suppose it's worth a look--www.skinbleaching.net--they're pills. I stumbled across it while looking for haircolor ideas for olive skin.

dollylocks, Ive worked in 2 clubs where the top blakc earners were so dark they only ever wore red onstage to highlight their ebony looks. Guys would pass me over for them just BECAUSE when they said they wanted a black girl they meant a BLACK girl who looked 100% African and nothing else.
In clubs generally our skin tones (various shades of browns) dont tend to show up the blemishes paler skinned dancers do so if your worrying about that....
I think your pic looks beutiful anyway, but if you ever manage to get the much lighter skin your looking for post a pic os we can get a before and after!!
    Good luck with your search..

Yes. I can see that happening. I'm a fusion of a lot of ethnicities, including black. But usually, most people don't seem to guess that I am indeed, part black. Even though I am dark--like a dark olive complexion, one guy told me to get a tan! He told me he wanted a really chocolate girl ! People tend to go for the obvious--whether she is obviously Latina, obviously Caucasian, obviously Black, etc. etc. Men especially, are simple creatures and like everything else to be simplified, too. They don't really want to try to figure out where someone is from--they like a woman's look to be cut-n-dry. That is SO not me--I probably make the extra simple-minded people exhausted simply when they look at me. But I love being a whirlwind of exotic mixtures, even though it does not seem to be very lucrative in this industry. A girl would have to work a little harder to draw people in. So ethnic simplicity seems to work well. Your skin color is beautiful and you are very pretty. You will have no trouble making money!

Dollylocks, I hear that in Florida, a gal with a darker complexion can BANK, without even trying really hard. At least that is what one of my co-workers told me. If you have no kids and no SO, you could TRAVEL!

Dollylocks, what kind of cream are you currently using? What kind of creams have you tried before?
I can understand wanting to even out your skintone, and lighten certain areas, but lightening your whole body may be very hard to do, risky and expensive. I am brown and I just bought some 4% hydroquinone (Lustra-Af... I hear Ambi is very good as well) the other day to lighten my knees/small scars, and paid about $30.00 for 28 grams(I'm in Canada, and didn't need a prescription), so it would be pretty pricey trying to do your whole body, but hydroquinone is probably one of the most effective.
If you want to get rid of dull skin, try a resurfacing lotion with AHA, or BHA, or even glcolic acid. I have found that Lac Hydrin, a lactic acid lotion, has worked well for me. And keep your skin moisturised, maybe with a cocoa butter like Palmers. I've noticed a decrease in skin discolorations since using cocoa and shea butters.
You know, when I started dancing I was so paranoid about my skin, I used body makeup, and shimmering lotions, etc., which worked, but were totally unnecessary, and a waste of time. You don't need to be perfect, nothing wrong with trying, just don't go overboard and waste your time(or risk looking like Lil Kim). I don't know one brown woman with perfect skin, and most of the pictures we see of them in magazines have been totally retouched, and they've been made up, really don't sweat it too much(a little is okay), but no one is perfect!
