    Default Tokyo again?

I am headed back to Tokyo tomorrow and will check out the gaijin strip club scene to see what, if anything, has changed in the last month or so due to all the immigration/visa busts and general drama, as soon as I have a chance. Are any SW-ites working in Tokyo these days? Is anyone even interested in doing so anymore given the recent bad vibes and such?

For two months this time...and a particularly profitable trip too. I hope I can find some nice dancer to spend my earnings on! Hopefully they haven't deported them all.

let us know how it goes wwanderer
    Will do.

Well, I finally found a (partially) free evening to make my way down to Roppongi and check out the clubs. Despite the recent spate of immigration busts (see http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content...id=229&page=12 ) and all the other bad stories making the rounds lately, the club situation seemed fairly normal.

Tantra has re-opened, in early March apparently. No one answers the phone at the old number for Lips-Akasaka, so I suspect it may be closed still, but I have not been to Akasaka-mitsuke yet to check for sure. Divino, upstairs from Tantra and the same owners/company, is also still open, and for some reason, the touts out front were pushing it over Tantra. (Mer-chan, I think you danced at both...any real difference between the two, do you think?) It is hard to tell, obviously, without going in, but I had the feeling that business was slow...lots of cut rates and special deals and such being pushed hard by the touts.

I finally settled on visiting 7th Heaven, partly for old times sake, and it was not particularly busy (late on a Wednesday evening) but not "dead" either. It looked to me like most of the dancers had customers at least part of the time, and at one point, my companion of the evening and I had to wait for a space to open up in the private dance area before we could get in. The dancers seemed to be, if anything, from an even wider range of different countries than usual...and it has nearly always been a very diverse group.

The dancer I spent my time with at 7th was just terrific, and I told her about this place...maybe she will check out and/or join SW at some point. She has a lot of experience dancing in several different countries and could contribute a lot I think. She had quite a bit of experience dancing in Tokyo in the mid/late 90s and commented on how much it had changed (for the worse).

Finally, a couple of 7th employees (not dancers) remembered me being there in Feb and asking about a missing Australian dancer; they were relieved to hear that you had been found and are OK, sushi.

wwanderer. thanks HEAPS for the info

i see little difference between tantra and divino except divino was smaller, and more laid back, less clientele, and friendlier girls, not so many champagne dances, and no skankiness. but it was still relatively new when i went there, so its hard to say what it could be like now.

if you had to wait to get a seat at 7th on wednesday night, then its a pretty ok night rougly how many girls did there seem to be working?

im seriously considering a quick trip back there for a month or so over nz winter ie may0june0july ish....but like all my plans....well see huh lol

No problem; if there is anything you'd like me to check out in particular, like a specific club or whatever, just let me know.

In addition to 7th, Tantra and Divino, I saw that Roaring 20s, Climax and Tokyo Touch of Class were open for business. I was also approached on the street by touts offerring various things, including some that said that I should go with them to topless or nude dance clubs for only 3 or 4 thousand yen, but I suspect that the places they had in mind are dives or rip-off joints compared to the well known Roppongi strip clubs.

OK, good, though I should also mention that when we went back a bit later for a second round of private dances, we were the only people in there. Btw, they used to have much better private dance spaces at 7th, years ago; they must have redone the floor plan at some point. The dancer I was with thought so too.

If it is May, except for the last few days of the month, I will still be here (hint, hint).

No, I don't remember her saying anything about that; she has not been in Tokyo in over 5 years, I believe it is, and kept saying how much less business and energy there seemed to be compared to way back then.

I meant to answer that question, which you asked before, in my last message...but it slipped my all too slippery mind. Anyway, I have trouble counting semi-naked hot looking women; I keep getting distracted and having to start over again. But I am almost certain that the number was way under 35. Without counting (I never even tried), I'd guess that it was about 20, possibly even slightly less. If/when I go back, I will pay more attention to the numbers.

With the agencies getting out of the Tokyo market, there may be a shortage of dancers. When I surfed through the web pages of a bunch of Tokyo clubs, in prep for my Roppongi expedition, I noticed that all of them were advertising to hire dancers...with big adverts right featured prominently near the top of their web pages in most cases.

oh thats interesting!! even 20 dancers on a night is DAMN sweet!! i know when i was there, there was 30min and 40 max every night. so having about 20 would seem so much easier.

i know the smaller clubs ( ie climax, bad girls etc) are always advertising, if 7th,private and tantra are advertising too...then hell....im gonna have to get my ass into gear on making a decision.

too hard to get there this month, too much rushing around.
may 21st iv got 2 21st birthdays i HAVE to go to thank kinda screws up the whole month of may....unless i go may 22nd ish...and come home just before june 21st (cos thats my birthday!) hmmmmm might have to think a bit harder definatly.

7th's web site says that they are hiring dancers under the "Jobs" link; Tantra's site has a big "Dancer's Wanted" ad in the middle of their home page, the first thing you see at

another dancer at work is keen too.....
last week april-to may 20thish....gonna talk about it more tonight at work. fingers crossed

One unusual consideration: Right now is not a good time to come to Japan if you have significant pollen allergies. For some reason, it is an unusually bad year here for cedar pollen; Japanese friends tell me that the newspapers are saying the levels are 10 to 30 times a normal year and the highest ever recorded. Lots of people really wiped out by it. I have only mild allergies normally, and I am half sick with it. Supposedly the cedar pollen season ends around the end of April.

Of course, it doesn't bother a lot of people at all.

You wouldn't think it was so funny, mer-chan, if you'd ever seen a dancer go into a sneezing fit just as she leans close to a customer to accept his tip...or develop a major runny nose while hanging upside down doing a trick on the pole! It can get awfully ugly real fast!

A "usually reliable souorce" (i.e., a dancer working at 7th Heaven right now) confirms my guestimate of "about 20 girls" working there at the moment and adds that there are "more expected to arrive". She didn't say when they are expected to arrive, but soon I suppose. She added that it was "dead" on Friday night, which is usually a busy one in Roppongi, I think.

Anyway, that's the scoop. I am surprised I got the number as close as I apparently did.

I was in Akasaka earlier this evening and passed by the Lips-Akasaka club. Nothing seems to have changed since I was there in February. The crude signs saying that it is closed for renovations are still still stuck to the inside of the glass doors, but the big advertising signs over the door and so forth are still there...just not lit up. The whole place looks dark and empty. Presumably it has been like that since the Jan 18 immigration bust in which SW's own sushidoll got taken into custody (and subsequently deported). That's over 3 months which is a hell of a long time to have no income at all coming in from such an expensive piece of real estate. Someone is losing serious money on that situation.

    Re: Tokyo again?

Hello all I am a newbie to this site. In the last couple of days I have went thru the site and loved the valuable info and advice I have recently thought about going to tokyo to work. Currently I live here in the United States and work in Atlanta, Georgia's most upscale and popular club. It's getting slow here now and I am seeking for a new place to work. I read about what clubs are good and what are bad. I would like to work in a club were there of course is no prostitution well let's be real every club has it but you don't see it. I am an exotic ethic women (bi-racial) and I am wondering if there is a place for me there. Or is it the kinda town that prefers blue eyes and blonde hair (nothing wrong with that but if i dye my hair ever again this year it will fall out)

I would prefer to be in a classy club simular to where I work.
And um what is this about the BUST they had last year??? visa's are no longer valid?

I've heard from both an english/jamaican friend of mine who worked there (and left), as well as an agent posting on their website, that dark skinned or ethnic women don't do well in Japan. What I have seen from japanese tourists here in Guam seems to bolster their claims. They seem a bit racist, honestly. I'm sure Wwanderer can correct me if I'm wrong though.

For the last 6 months or more there has been a big crack down on foreigners working in Japan without a proper visa (typically having entered the country on a tourist visa or having overstayed their working visa, etc), not just dancers but foreigners in all sorts of jobs. Lots of people have been arrested and held in immigration detention (jail, in effect) for weeks to months before being deported back home.

Since the huge majority of foreign dancers in Japan have traditionally not had a proper visa (and no one cared at all), this has hit the dancer community and clubs hard. A bunch have been raided and some are closed. Plus the ones I have visited have a much larger fraction of (English speaking) Japanese dancers working than I have seen in the past.

Yeah, that is basically right. Most, but not all of course, Japanese don't want much to do with foreigners of any race...more xenophobia than racism...plus there is probably some extra bias against darked skinned dancers. However, there are enough exceptions, and of course the Japanese guys who go to gaijin (foreigner) dance clubs tend to be exceptions, else they wouldn't be there, that when the clubs are busy, I think all the dancers can do well. Maybe the tall, blonde, blue-eyed types do the best, but it is not like the rest go broke. Also not that in Roppongi, a sort of gaijin ghetto in Tokyo were most of the clubs are located, probably 50% or more of the customers are foreigners themselves.

There have been numerous posts on the board for a long time on Tokyo. The consensus
has been that there is more downside than upside about dancing there... depending
on the club and if they take your passport or not. (never give up your passport in a foreign country.) Numerous posts on this subject to look up in the past posts.

i recieved an email yesterday from a fellow 7th heaven dancer, who said PE was not happening, no dancers, and no custys, as managment has decided to onnly employ those with proper visas.

7th is average. no different. less custys.same standard of girls etc.

tantra is the main club at the moment ( at least) most dancers have left the other clubs to go here, money is average to great, most of the custys from the other clubs have moved on over here.

still HUGE issues getting thru immigration.
