    Default Good oils

I want to make some lumpia (I just got a craving for it) just to do something fun. I wonder if I can use anything else to make it with besides vegetable oil. Eventhough you have to fry it is there any way to make them healthier?
I got the recipe from the FoodNetwork from Carlita Domingo.

    Coconut oil

Olive oil but watch the temp.

Generally, if you sniff the oil and can't tell which plant it came from, avoid it.

    Even the human kind?

Palm Kernel oil is good because it is high in saturated fat and low in EFAs, so it doesn't breakdown into bad things when heated.

    I would avoid it.

    Can you use olive oil?

Probably but do you think it would turn out the same though and taste good?

I don't know how lumpia would taste fried in olive oil. It just doesn't sound very appetizing. Maybe get the extra light kind?

Make sure your oil is hot enough so it doesn't soak up too much grease while frying.

yes, it's a filipino food similar to an eggroll but made with much thinner wrapper. Filled with meat and veggies and deep fried.

    Bananna lumpia is yummy too.

My stepmom uses canola oil to fry lumpia and spring rolls. It comes out great that way.

safflower oil is better than olive oil to fry things in. not nearly as heavy, and better for you too.

You could always just adapt the recipe by spraying with cooking spray and baking. That is how I make samosas now.

For deep frying oil you could go with corn oil... it allows you to reach a higher temperature which will keep them from absorbing too much oil. Just get the all natural, non-GMO kind if you can find it.

Grape seed oil! It's the best- lots of 'good fats', but has a high smoking point, so you can use it for frying. And it's not that expensive.
